I picked a few redcurrents today. Th bushes are right next to the bee colony but I just ignored it and carried on. Luckily(?) the only sting I got was from a nasty nettle that had grown up between the current bushes lol

I feel bad for you, jen. I write this because when I was little, I fell into a ditch full of stinging nettles. I can't remember it, but I have been told about it. I also got hives as an older child, after rolling about on the grass. I remember that very clearly.
You'll heal, though, jen! Still, nettles are nasty.

Thank you, but I should be Ok. I get stung regularly, almost daily, so it's more of an irritation. I have mixed feelings about them as they are good for the garden. My pet hate, if any, are wasps as I stumbled into a nest when I was little and got stung lots of times.

As a kid hanging about with some boys, I tried to join in peeing on wasps nest. Guess who was the only person stung down there.
My mum was not impressed that, somehow, a wasp had sneaked under my pants, wandered along then stung me.
Anyone got a tuff shed or a sheshed in your backyard?
What are those?
Hi Cherry, A sheshed is like a man cave but for women. Of course since it is for women, it looks much nicer depending on how the women decorate it. You can make it your home office, a place to relax, a place to get away from the house...
A tuff shed is where you store your gardening stuffs.
We have a summer house, and we have a lean to which acts as a shed, and I have a garage, where we have benches and tools for our diy. We are both quite diy.
I am thinking about gardening once the new place is done, planting vegetables and stuffs... my husband thinks I should have a tuffshed to store the gardening stuffs. He does not want to store them in the garage. The shed is good because it can be right there by the garden so it will be easy for me to access all the tools.
The sheshed is like a trend now. Both of my sisters have one. When their friends visit, they sit in the sheshed looking out to the yard whil having snack, away from the main house. I think it's cool. I might have one for myself, not too large, 300sft will do it.

I have known people who have upmarket Wendy houses for their children. A larger one of these would, and do, fit well for a sheshed. We have a shed for tools but it's not very tuff lol.
I can imagine - far too cold People do grow them in greenhouses here but it is far too cold and poor light for good bananas so they never ripen so no point, at least to me.
A few days back, during the heatwave the cacti were flowering well. The greenhouse was getting a bit like a jungle too, with tomatoes, tomatillos, cucumbers - and there are a couple of aubergine plants too lol:

I do have a lot of tomatoes this year as the ones in the greenhouse are only part of the crop. I have another half a dozen or so plants outside. It's tomatoes with everything at the moment and I have frozen some plus given a dozen or so each to my mum and my son.

A couple of years ago I called at a patients house. After treatment she gave me a bag of home grown tomatoes.
"Thanks, very much that is very kind of you." Says I.
"That's alright. I had so many this year, I am fed up with them, and I have already given my neighbours and friends lots."
Our redbud still has some leaves that didn't completely die... not many.. like a handful lol so, maybe it will come back okay enough next year. Around the corner, I saw another redbud where half the tree seems to have died off similarly. I guess it was just way too much rain in our area recently, so it wasn't just our tree that "drowned." It should do better from now on because we raised it higher. I wish I could fast-forward to spring to see if it will make it!

I am not sure what kind of tree it was but my neighbour used to regularly comment about a tree that she had planted in the garden. For years it looked on death's door then all of a sudden one year it burst into life. We could not think of any reason why.
I'm a little sad today. One of my banana trees came down in a storm while I was away and all the bananas are gone. At least some animals got to enjoy them.

Are they lightly rooted?
Cherry, not really, when they get old and there is a large bunch on them, they can actually snap in a big wind storm. In fact i had a second tree start to go so I cut of the bunch and it is ripening on my lanai.
A bit brighter again - I noticed the cacti near my back door are flowering. These are only out during spring / summer / autumn and then shelter in the greenhouse for winter:
