For an instant I thought it was a fig tree. They appear somewhat similar.
They are, but larger leaves.
Our fig is doing really well just now. Really sprouting...
Yes, that's why I got caught out. My larger fig tree looks similar. It has gone mad this year and will need a good cutback this autumn. It's roots are not well restricted like they recommend. I have another which is in a large planter and much more manageable. It has lots of figs. Those on the larger tree have gone. I'm not sure where. The larger tree was actually from a cutting I took of the one in the tub, which I took a few years ago.
I got up this morning to find the lovely sight of a female blackbird happily munching it's breakfast of a cherry from the tree. Yesterday I picked the cherries we want and left a good number for the birds. It is only a miniature tree about five feet or so high so there were not many but I have taken great care this year and the weather was good so there were a lot of cherries

I have never had a cherry off a tree. The birds always get there first.

Its like that with all the berries too. they Are much quicker than me.

I was amused a couple of years ago at the local Morrisons supermarket. The store has a number of Cherry trees around the perimeter and I came across a woman with a basket picking the cherries. She didn't appear to be anything to do with the store. Technically theft I suppose but it shows enterprise. I have often thought about it but never even dared to ask lol. We have quite a few cherry trees that grow out in the wild here. The birds are well fed.

My dad has a bird feeder in his garden: the birds go mental over the bird food. My dad is always re-stocking the feeders [he had two out on a stand]. There've been starlings, pigeons: you name it.
Anyhow, I did not know birds ate cherries: now I do!
Closely shorn grass lawns first emerged in 17th century England at the homes of large, wealthy landowners. While sheep were still grazed on many such park-lands, landowners increasingly depended on human labor to tend the grass closest to their homes.

All the bird feeders here are all next door lol. The local blackbirds and I have now stripped the cherry tree of it's fruit and now I see them wishing to share the Loganberries. I didn't realise they liked them but it shouldn't really be a surprise. They like their fruit. I'm happy to share. I have not seen any birds taking vegetables although I did wonder about my peas. Vegetables are not really sweet enough but there are other pests which attack them.
I have lots of green tomatoes at the moment so maybe there will be a rush of red ones. I eat the first tomatillos at the weekend.

I love the smell of freshly cut grass. I also love watching birds. Birds are amazing animals and are just fascinating. I also LOVE birds of prey. Their power as they fly is incredible. There is such power and control in their wings. I went to a BBC Radio 4 event a few summers ago and saw these birds upclose. Everyone was amazed. I'll never forget that day: it was brilliant.
If you guys ever get the chance to go to a bird show, don't let yourself down!

They share our fruit trees too.
I don't mind, apart from maybe my plums, as they are still in short supply.

I went to a bird of prey demo once, that was great.
I really dislike that grass became one of the few acceptable things to grow in the lawn. I like that more people are turning away from grass only.. it's much better ecologically! I have so many random 'weeds,' grass, and clover growing in my lawn now... many even have tiny flowers. I much prefer it than to grass by itself.

Cool.
...and I thought I was a lazy gardener. But NO! I am ecologically sound.

Mine is very similar. It was originally seeded with grass seed but whatever grows grows. I just mow it. I have to be wary on the front lawn in the summer though. It seems to attract ants. The last time I mowed I was pulling some straggling weeds along the kerbside and suddently realised the ants were all over my boots and looking most angry. I stamped my feet and they were gone but it may have been painful lol

Unfortunately our HOA won't allow anything but a nice lawn and an are with bushes and trees.

Yeah, we get the ants in the summer, too... fire ants, grr!! And they like to hide in the grass with their small piles before they get really large. We put ant bait out.... borox seems to kill them when you mix it with sugar and some water.

We have no HOA here, but a lot of people still try to keep up the appearance as if we do. Some are starting to let it be more natural like us, though!

Yes borax will. It is in many of the commercial ant killers. I don't worry too much about them unless that get too invasive and enter the house. They can be a problem with some plants in the greenhouse as they farm and protect the aphids, which are the real problem, but this year I have mainly tomatoes and tomatillos which are little affected so I have let them be as there are only a few. We don't have fire ants but there are some which can give a noticeable nip. I have noticed I have at least two different species in the garden.

Papaya is a gorgeous fruit. I love beauty products with papaya in, too.
I have to say I love nature and everything about it. I love animals, especially. I don't just mean domestic pets, but wildlife in general. Animals are incredible and so smart.
Our redbud keeps falling down from the storms now. Almost all the leaves have died. I'm not sure it's going to be alive by next year... I may need to purchase a new one next spring =/
I have this tall pine tree about 40ft high that I really want to chop it down to about 25ft but the gardener will need to get City's permission to do it .
I have about 5 trees around the house that I need the City's blessing if I want to do something with them. This area that I will call home is subject to many city regulations.

Trees can be a bit of a minefied here in some locations too. Some are protected so all you are allowed to do is keep them tidy.

Annie, does the city control what you can do with trees on your own property? That seems like a little over reach to me?

Karen, if they grow to a certain height.
My new place is at a pocket area of this city where all kind of rules and regulations applied.
