We are going to plant a blue ray kousa dogwood tree and some autumn twist encore azaleas out front. We are also looking for some native viburnum to plant, but we are having trouble finding any locally.
I am kind of obsessed with bicolored flowers right now... I want to also get some bicolored roses for near the mailbox, but that will be for next year perhaps.
I may share some photos later of some of the plants I mentioned us planting last year.. my plants near the house got injured when we had our roof replaced, so some of them could look a bit better, but they are still alive.
Unfortunately, we have three large trees in the backyard that died. No idea what happened to them, but we will need to have them cut down. One broke off a large limb already, so I am nervous of what will happen if we don't take care of them soon.
I am considering adding a sourwood tree, but I am reading they are difficult trees to establish....
Need more ideas for native trees that aren't susceptible to diseases that have flowers and maybe nuts for the wildlife... lol we have wild mulberry already growing back there.
I finished my work with the apple tree this morning. Last Saturday I pruned it, resulting in a large pile of branches blocking up the garden. Today I chopped them up, placing the various bits in their ideal positions for re-use. Now my walkwaay to the greenhouse has new wood underfoot; the bottom of the garden flower area has new mulch and the bottom of the garden (fence area) has branches lain which wildlife will find useful. I look now and amazed as it isn't obvious where the large pile went. All recycled in my garden
While I was doing this I did notice that one of my cucumbers has tried to escape from the greenhouse. It squeezed between the glass and frame and has broken the pane of glass. It's a good job I have some spares. A job for the winter as the cucumber is jammed (it looks squished) and I won't be able to get it out before it rots and the other plants in the greenhouse have died off making access easier.
My hydroponics are still going but there is a smell of decay coming in the greenhouse. The last of the tomotoes are ripening off, as well as the peppers but I will have to decide soon to pick them still green before they are lost.

Jen, thats a yearly occurrence for me. There usually are some left at the end of the season and its's pick them green or lose them.
This morning I was out in the garden with my pruning tools again. I have now done one of the fig trees, a bay tree and the loganberries, as well as a plant which is invading from next door and a small Ash tree which it was hiding. That's most of the pruning done although the redcurrent bushes will take an hour or so,
A bad point was that I accidently cracked a glass pae on the greenhouse. It was at the back alongside my neighbours fence and the alleyway is only a couple of feet or so so it's very tight. I have things stored there too which is basically why it happened. This pane is far less important as it is right at the bottom and cannot be seen at all unless you are in the alleywaay as I have a reflecting screen along that wall inside the greenhouse. I have spare panes so I will think again when I get round to the other one I mentioned earlier.

Before we had a wood at the back of us, we used to use a grinder for our prunings.
I finally got round to planting some kale seeds today. They will (hopefuly) germinate and grow a little in the house and then I can plant them out toward the end of the month when I have cleared space in the greenhouse.
It must still be quite warm as I am picking a few current tomatoes and chilli peppers in the greenhouse. Unusual for November

We have water getting into the greenhouse..... Something needs doing.

I get a bit so have to be careful where I put things. All from above though. At the moment it's the high humidity which is affecting things though.
I noticed them yesterday but I had a good look today. The kale seeds that I put in the propogator have all germinated. That's quick work. Hopefully I should have some little plants to plant out in the greenhouse by the end of November.
