I have often thought that was a good idea, coz sometimes it is hard to tell spammers from members.
To me, if you are here first and foremost for the forum, then that would be fine. What gets on my wick is those who come in make the necessary 5 posts, mostly by single word responses, then spam, never to be seen again.
Most forums have a dedicated "ad board" that people advertising other forums that can leave an ad and they will also have a place on their site was well for a return as, It works well as you can get a lot of ads out there for your own forum really easily. One great thing about that is you can set the ad board to allow guest to leave a post that way you dont have to go through the crap of them joining just so that they leave an ad and then leave.
I admin three other forum websites and have got lots of new members doing this.
We don't allow 'headhunting' here as it's a very small group. Many of us came from a different forum originally to escape trolls, so we don't practice the same habits of many other proboard forums.
So far, most who came here to share their forum were only here to share their forum, and they left when they learned they cannot =p So, I guess it helps weed out those not interested in actually participating here.
If you personally want to promote this forum you can, as you are part of our forum (thank you for being here!), but I will not ask that of you.
I would be okay with trusted members sharing their website, once they prove their intention is not just for ad space =p It's just you'd be the first one to do so, Autumn :-)

I am curious (from one forum owner to another) do you rely on mostly word of mouth to get new members? I found you guys via an advertisement BTW so I know you do some ad posting.

Maybe . . . just maybe, those here that haven't posted in over 4 months should be eliminated. That sounds cruel and actually would affect a couple of my friends. Sorry.

I do see what you are saying, but it shouldn't affect the site adversely, as far as I know, and they might come back.
I have messaged Sally, and Priss not so long ago, but both of them can be erratic attenders at the best of times. Personally I think they both need their bottoms smacked for not being more regular, ahem, cough, sorry, Anyway back on topic............
I think the higher numbers will also encourage newbies?

Spot on, Cher! I miss Sally, Soli, Jessica (Cali-girl), Jenny Foster, and Pris, among others. More participation would create newbies. Just say "bottoms up", and then spank them!
So far I only delete males. I don't intend on deleting members who don't post often, as Cher mentioned.. it'll be a stat-padding for us lol looks like we have more people than we do!
We're still in competition with the old site, which has many other members signed up, even though none are really active anymore, but people seem to look at the amount of members when deciding where to join.

I delete my Shoutbox stuff after a few days. I believe that it was set up to give a shout-out to someone that was currently online. Perhaps everyone should do what I do so that we can view recent Shouts.
Well, the shoutbox is like an instant messenger, and it's usually more fun to chat when people are on at the same time, but not necessary lol but eh, it's a forum first, and that's just an add-on.
Recent shouts will always be there, so you don't have to worry.

Close enough! When I was there and people would say fair dinkum, they would mean "that's true enough". Heather, am I teaching you Aussie-Speak? By the way, they like Weed!
