Basically, this is a thread about any day - or every day - of your life. No matter how mundane, post it here! I hope there isn't another thread the same. If there is, I do apologise.
Today I got up really early. I had my daily shower and worked on my computer. I also hoovered and put on a load of laundry. I aired out my apartment, too. I watched a DVD and went out for a walk. Aside from the freaky weather, it was a lovely walk and I am now drinking a cup of tea - and again - working on the computer.
I look forward to all your replies and your trains of thought! Do have a nice day, too.

I think we have threads about weekend activities usually or for holidays lol So it's nice to have a thread we can drop by on any day of the week just to keep people posted.
I had a lot of work to do today, so I'm a bit pressed for time on here... but stopping by ;p I went for a nice walk after work, and I finally made time to water my plants today after dinner.... I'm slowly catching up on things.
It was a good day for me yesterday as it was the first meeting of our art group since before Christmas. It was lovely to meet everyone again and even better to find that they were all Ok without having had covid issues. Today is likely to be a little quieter but it is only early yet.
Today is Thursday so I was up earlier than usual 5.45am. so that I could be washed and dressed and have walked the dogs by the time the supermarket opens. Thursday is the day that I do my big shop and I do the shopping for the two old people that I look after. I've no idea why but the shops were much busier this morning than they usually are.

Of course I had my daily shower: and put on my favourite vintage dress. I also cleaned my bathroom and kitchen. I put on a load of laundry and am airing out my apartment.
I am working on the computer now. In fact, I am buying myself a new computer in the next few months: I really need an upgrade. It'll be a new tower. I shall be keeping my current monitor and mouse, though. Oh: and keyboard.
I have been computing forever: in fact from 1998. I am rather good with a computer, I must say. And it is something I thoroughly enjoy. I bet you're all the same yourselves! Computers HAVE revolutionized the world. I do think the 21st century is rich with its technology. I absolutely LOVE technology.

I built a new PC several months ago... a gaming one, though ;p My SO picked out all the parts, but we both built our own together. The towers are white this time around instead of black like usual.

It's a good achievement building your own PC Heather. One to be proud of as you use it. My son has recently built up a gaming computer. It has a pretty large case which seems full of fans to keep it cool. He also has an adjustable height table for it so he can get ideal position.
I didn't quite go that far when I, fairly recently, got a new one myself. You could say I chickened out with the building but it was a laptop. I had one custom put together as I wanted good performance but minus some of the additional bits they use on most consumer laptops - perhaps mainly software 'junk'. My uses tend to be more toward business / professional application. One of these was Windows 10. I am afraid. particularly at work, the shenanighans with Windows software used to drive me mad.The Windows update please don't turn off your computer message on shutdown. I would often be at a patient's home long after I should have left having to confirm that all was still OK with our specialist software before leaving. I think Microsoft do assume that your computer is left on permanently. What happened to global warming? Anyway - gripe over but you get the picture. Microsoft is so Big Brother (much like Apple too!). I bought my laptop devoid of software and installed Linux from scratch. It was not the first time as I put it on an old compter we had a while ago to see how easy it was.
Linux is, for me, far easier to get on with as the updates are just notified and you please yourself when and how you install them. Obviously Windows applications do not readily run with it but there are ways and I have at least one Windows application running. Probably a big negative with gamers though. In the main there are 'open source' and similar, nominally free, applications to replace the standard Windows apps. These are donation funded so you pay what you are able and feel to. It is easy to try so you can and if it's not useful you lose nothing. There are pay for apps too but Linux versions of many mass market software house applications are uncommon. Linux is a little more labour intensive than Windows so would suit someone better who knows a little but, for daily use with the Internet, Youtube, Firefox and mail etc, is pretty identical to Windows. I suppose the main negative is that there is no big market presence for Linux but the available online help forums are good. I would say still easier for someone who understands a little about the system though. I still have my old Windows laptop but I know which direction I am heading.
Well my parents are visiting so we are taking a ride to the beach and later we are going out for italian. It's so nice having them here, even if it is just for a few days.

Haha, understandable! I have to have Windows 10 for work, as most will request it specifically. I never see anyone who accepts Linux! I stayed on Windows 7 as long as I could before this, but more jobs won't accept that either anymore, so I figured it was a good time to upgrade my PC entirely lol I have a lot of fans, too, but they are much more quiet than what I had before. Same for my case/tower, it dampens the sound! It's an unbelievable difference. I never realized how loud my prior computer was... this one is barely noticeable even when playing games when everything is working harder!
I do leave my computer on, and I restart it once in a while, especially if I need to update anything ;p
So we were have a small facility issue today. I proposed 5 solutions as things constantly changed, the COO came back with a reason to doubt all 5 of my solutions. Then we called for a meeting. He proposed the solutions that I told him to the consultant. I hope he came back and read my emails again.

I guess they were some good solutions after all ;p You'll save the day.

Yes these cards have got quieter. I think that a lot of it is resonance of other things too. Have you noticed how little sounds get so irritating in cars now they are so quiet nowadays lol.
A little trick I found with my new laptop is that the main graphics card can effectively be turned off when not in use and just the basic Intel graphics are utilised. When I am just browsing the net or other simple things it cuts power useage, giving better battery life, and also the fan comes on far less. It's a bit tedious in that it means re-starting the system when I change but is a good idea. You maybe don't have that option on a desktop but I only found out when I accidently turned the graphics card off and my simulation game stuttered with low frame rate.

Thank you Cassie. We are having a wonderful time and we are definitely creating new memories.

I've been to town today. My sister treated me to a new pair of earrings. We also ate lunch out. I helped my sister cook dinner: we made a bacon & potato bake. It was seriously tasty. I am now - in the evening - on my computer, browsing the Internet.
So we were have a small facility issue today. I proposed 5 solutions as things constantly changed, the COO came back with a reason to doubt all 5 of my solutions. Then we called for a meeting. He proposed the solutions that I told him to the consultant. I hope he came back and read my emails again.
Will you mind if you don't get the credit?
No, I don't mind at all. I am not even disappointed.
I just think that it's very weird that a person in his position still wants to prove himself and still takes credit from his peers. I am not his subordinate, I am an officer of the organization like him.

There are more people in that email chain then just me and him, and the same people were in the meeting so the records speak for itself. I am not at all disappointed when someone makes a fool of themselves that way.

It's just awkward, especially if the person does not mention where the ideas came from when there is an email that shows this lol

People who steal ideas - and get away with it - drive me up the wall. I am very careful not to share my ideas: I know if I do, the other person will try to claim credit.
It seems childish - or child-like behaviour - but adults do steal ideas. You have to be careful if you're talented at something to keep your ideas to yourself. And when you do present them, you'll gain ALL the credit.

I am careful about whom I trust.
It's a common thing in research for a senior member of staff to effectively steal ideas from junior members. The better departments do credit junior members with any involvement in research. It is understandable that they should be take great credit as they will have had great influenceand provide the atmosphere etc for it but I think some see it as their ticket to continued respectability. In this I often wonder how many of the great scientists we know actually had similar gifted assistants who we never actually hear of.
Another trait I have also seen is 'Not invented here syndrome'. That seems to appear internally to a company, at times as well as between them, when the controlling manager does not want to accept an idea which someone else makes, but which may appear to upstage him. I think lots of good ideas can be lost and, in science, many early geniuses seem intent on justification of their earlier work rather than moving on with refreshing new ideas.

Not just seniors..
OH used to work at an engineering place , he designed a new bit of kit and used to to do some very precise work. A few days later he came into work and noticed one of his collegues standing at his work station pointing at the work he had done and talking to some big wigs from a multi national company .. As if he was the one who had designed the tool and done the work..
OH just wandered over and said 'good isnt it and look whos name is on it' ( he used to mark his work) the guy who had been boasting just turned red and walked away.
People will do anything to gain status or reputation.
We were walking on a marshland nature reserve ( saw the marsh harriers btw) we are miles from any houses. The area is boggy and wet and while looking for frogs we see a mans leather slipper floating in the stream.
Q, how did it get here? Who walked all the way out here in slippers? Why would they do that ? its not warm and its really wet.. How did they loose it in the water? why didnt they fish it out?
how did they get home with only one slipper?
and of course ...how drunk or stoned were they to do this in the first place!
