There are weeds starting to grow in our flowers, even though it has been really cold and snowing a lot. lol usually things are so much slower to grow, but they're growing really fast for some reason. Must be something that loves winter... we have a lot of random plants growing everywhere, and we get new things every year it seems.. the birdies like to bring us strange and invasive groundcovers xD

Although they are in the greenhouse and obviously better off I have seen an increase in growth rate of the plants from the seeds I planted at the end of last year. The other day I even had a salad from the thinnings from the seedlings. I think it is the increase in daylight now that the shortest day is past and the days are getting longer. The weeds are growing well too though.
It is a good time to sort the weeds out, before they take over
I'm not sure exactly Cherry but the temperatures fell to around 29 for an extended period of time and it damaged the foliage of my more topical plants and even killed some. Also like I mentioned my cactus took a beating but will survive but with a lot of pruning.
Things are marching along toward spring now as the days are getting longer. I already have some tomato seedlings in the house from seeds that I recently planted.
Yesterday I had mackeral salad for lunch. I used the second batch of thinnings from my plants in the greenhouse. I planted those late last year and they are beginning to come up well now. Second batch? - It's only mid February and two harvests already. Here's hoping for a good year
Here are my papaya's after the freeze. If you look closely you can see some new leaves growing at the top. They are going to be okay. imgur.com/3NxMsRM

If I live near you, I will never have to buy vegetables:)

I had a busy hour this morning. I have re-organised the greenhouse ready for the summer. It's part of a wider plan to organise my planters so everything is much tidier. In the greenhouse, rather than canes to support the tomato plants I now have two stainless steel cable lines fixed to the roof, one either side, and will use lines hanging down from these with clips for the tomatoes. A more professional solution which won't (hopefully) be so much of a chore to organise. Less chance of poking an eye out on the end of a cane too
I made a biig move on sorting out my pots and planters in the garden yesterday. There is still much to do before the season starts properly but, after binning a lot of the cracked old plastic pots / planters, things are a lot tidier now.
I sent out the suicide squad yeaterday. I needed to repot some of my tomato seedlings and, due to OH taking up a bit of space on my usual nursery area in the house, I have far less space for seedlings this year so they are having to go in the greenhouse. I never remember when I usually put them in the greenhouse but I don't think that it is ever this early. I prepared a wooden tray with bubble wrap base insualtion and a double cloche so they are effectively in a greenhouse inside a greenhouse. They seem Ok this morning but it didn't freeze overnight. Fingers crossed - I have more which will soon follow.

Jen, I hope the little plants survive. Keeping my fingers crossed.
