Well, the charity bag is out for collection this morning. I just hope it doesn't rain as it is so full it's partly open at the top.
I hope you checked the charity was a genuine contribution? Some of these bags only give 10% to the charities they claim to support.
I mosly do but in this case no. It was somewhat a catch all bag though so some of the things to go would be tricky to place anywhere else. I think it best that things go somewhere rather than just thrown away.
Locally I have noticed that very few, if any, of the bags now seem to give 100% of their proceeds to the charity. A few years ago some of the local charities, and even national ones, used to do their own collections but I haven't seen any of these recently. It is still possible to take things directly or even call them, I think, if you have quite a bit but really it's just bits and pieces with me.

I've cleaned my bathroom and kitchen. I also put on a load of laundry. I wiped down surfaces with anti-bacterial wipes. I also hoovered my apartment and have the windows open. I keep on top of the washing up, too.
I actually enjoy cleaning my apartment: plus, it gives me something to do.

I tend to stick stuff in a bag, and if I am going into town, I fetch the bag.......
It's hard to donate around here. People on Facebook are too picky about free things, and all the thrift stores have too much already to take more. Oy. So household items and clothing have nowhere to go. Thank goodness we have several little libraries around town for books...
Maybe there's somewhere local that wants fabric for rags, or see if one sister in a large city can take old clothing for their thrift stores... That could work!

It's getting a bit like that here too. It's easy to tell by the fact that most charity bags now say more about what they don't want rather than what they do. I suspect they used to get lumbered with many things that they couldn't shift. It's one reason why I would be wary of taking things to a shop without sounding them out first.
Clothing is not too much of an issue though as clothes can be recycled in lots of places, as long as they are still good. Most old clothes are used for rags anyway, dependant on the actual fabric. Books are not too much of a problem either, with the book exchanges.

I've given clothes away to charity: I don't know what percentage goes towards the needy and what percentage goes to the charity staff. But there has to be some profit. However, I am not a charity worker anymore and don't know the ins and outs of it all.
We have a take one, leave one book shelf at work. Sometimes I take books I don't want in to fill the shelf because sometimes it gives the patients something to do besides watch tv. There's only one music channel and it's relaxation/nature based and most people don't like that. LOL!

How do you get your charity bags? Are they delivered to you? I’m not sure if we have this here as I’ve never received any. I usually drop mine to the charity shop like SPCA or church charity led organisation. We also have big metal containers by the carpark of some malls or town centres. Usually, these containers are for old clothes only.

I listened to an article on the radio from a woman volunteer who opened charity donations. She kept the window open, and was always double gloved, if that gives you a clue what they often find.

I have just begun going through my stuff in an effort to de-clutter the house. It's going to be a long journey. But I am sick of the hoarder effect I have going on. There's much cleaning to be done after I go through all this and get the place organized. I would like to find one of those little tables that only seats 2 for the kitchen. But those are kinda expensive. I have a spot for it by the back door once I clear away the clutter. If the kitchen were better designed I think it would be funnier than heck to have a picnic table refurbished and painted to have in the kitchen. Just to be unusual. LOL!

I rather like this. It does need varnishing, but I might like to paint it white.
The only problem is that we already have a lovely table.

We have containers for clothes in some places too. There were lots for bottles, and even paper and cardboard but these are less common now recycle bins have been issued to each house.
The charity bags are posted through the door, more occasionally now but there used to be lots of them. You get it a few days before they come to collect, with the collection day labelled on the bag. The name of the charity and what they are collecting is on the label too. Among other things, the general cutback on plastic bags may have reduced these too as many will have been wasted. I remember, in their heyday we had numerous, occasionally even more than one on the same day, which we kept aside if not used for the charity, using more generally. Many people here did the same. As implied earlier, there is no official system, and anyone could organise such a system.
There will be no washing today lol. The pouring rain has decided
My husband jokes sometimes and comes up with the craziest things. He will say something like why waste perfectly good water. Just put your clothes out and put some detergent on them and let mother nature do the job.
