This edition is from the early 1970s and still contains the original language used which is very non-pc.
I read that reasonably recently. I enjoyed it.
Indeed , I do get a sense of nostaglia from reading very old books and of course there are none of the impossible high tech escapes or anything just good old fashioned wits and cunning,
"A Woman Of Substance" by Barbara Taylor Bradford.
I finished reading this last night. A captivating and clever epic novel. Published in 1980 it has stood the test of time. I've read it three or four times now but I have no regrets.
"A Woman Of Substance" is magical. Barbara Taylor Bradford did a fantastic job.
I have finished reading"Tomorrow Never Dies" based on the James Bond film and written by Raymond Benson, and published by Hodder and Stoughton.
My take is that it is the worst book I have read (partly) in a long time, being frankly bland, and not a patch on original Ian Fleming.
Additionally on reading it I was wondering after chapter three if part of the film had been missed out in the book. I didn't notice at the time but the printing / binding had been totally screwed up. All's well until the end of chapter three (page 40). The next page was actually the start of chapter ten (page 121). All goes well until page 168. The next page is 89. The pages from 41 to 88 are totally missing
I was thinking of giving the book a 2 out of 10 before I found this. My final verdict is minus 5.
I got the book from a book exchange. I don't know why someone put it there as it is really no use to anyone. It will now go into the paper recycling. I wouldn't want to torture anyone else.

When I prepare my books for publishing I have to make sure the chapters are in order/the grammar is correct/the typography is correct/etc.
It takes time to edit one's work too: it must be gone over until it is right. I heavily edited "Realm of Dreams" and am glad I did. I also edit my poems carefully. I may have vanity publishers BUT it is still important to edit any book properly.
I am now reading "The Other Side Of Mrs Wood" by Lucy Barker.
I am really liking this book. It is a supernatural story and fun with it.
I shall review it when I finish reading it!
I need to find time to read this novel: I may have to read it when I'm in bed. There is just no time in the daytime.
I finished reading this novel today. I just turned off the computer and sat on the sofa, reading. It took me about four hours to read.
An extremely well written novel. I'd give it 10/10 as it is so clever and captivating. It is about a medium in the 1800's who has a rival. It is female literature: it is actually far more realistic than I had thought it'd be. I was pleasantly surprised by its quality and its witty writing. Perfect literature.

I finished a Star Trek novel that I got in July! Yay! Not sure why it took me so long. I'd give it a 4 out of 5 (which is how I can rate books on GoodReads) because it didn't need to jump around so often with three different timelines that eventually came together. Still, a good story overall!
I have The Royal Librarian (Daisy Wood) on loan from the library, and we'll see if I make progress on that. On my own shelf is another of her books, and I didn't finish it yet. Oops!
I was reading the tax materials that I will need to know when we hit the full retirement age.
Or you could wait until the film comes out.
In a way, you got a point Cherry, tax laws here change all the time anyway, the election is 15 days away, we don't know what the next government has in mind.

That's true, but it will be a few months before a new budget appears.

I have 3 years to hit the full retirement age so it's still within the terms of the new government.

I have heard from patients that the first ten years or so of their retirement are wonderful, maybe the best times of their lives. After that health becomes more of an issue.

I have a feeling that might happen to most people. I hope that would not be my case.

They are the lucky ones. Most of the people we know are lucky to make retirement. Its the industry they work in, you get exposed to all sorts of nasty stuff.
I am now reading "The Woman On The Orient Express" by Lindsay Jayne Ashford.
A truly brilliant read so far!
I finished reading this yesterday.
A wonderful story and a clever one, too. This novel has a score of 10/10. It is based on the author Agatha Christie and her real life. Yet it is pure fiction.
This novel had me captivated and I didn't want to put it down. A greatly addictive novel.
