Why do you lock/close threads that are popular and restart them? They don't take extra time to load as they only load one page at a time.
On my forum we have threads with over 1000 pages with no issues.
It is usually me that does it.
I find that when they get to a certain length, they start to look uninviting to newbies. They open them and they see all these 'regulars' having what looks like 'private jokes'. Newbies prefer shorter threads, and while we are still developing as a group, I feel we should do all we can to encourage fresh input.
I also don't like to see that the thread was created by someone who was deleted, or has deleted themselves. Again, it looks like an uninviting place.
I don't feel that we lose anything by closing and re-starting them. Our numbers are slowly rising, and that's despite the fact that forums are, mostly' falling and even failing. I hope that doesn't come across as too smu, but we seem to be getting a lot of things right.

Another couple of points are that, if you open it accidently at the start it is a bit tedious to step to the end and also if you are looking for a certain entry it becomes very hard. Good examples are these game threads with unique entries (like in the alphabet games). It's difficult to avoid repeating options as the thread gets longer so maybe they should be renewed after two or three times through the alphabet?
If people want to restart threads after a certain point, then I won't stop them... but would I do it? No.
I personally prefer everything being in one place, and I don't care how long it is or if there is repeated entries. Most of the long threads are not really the type of thing where people are supposed to read every page anyway, so anyone can just jump in at random. They are just sporadic, "post in the moment" threads (like what are you listening to.. you can post the same song a week later if it's what you're listening to lol). Most threads are not an ongoing conversation about a very specific topic where you must read everything to know what is going on; those tend to be short and easy to read through anyway.
When we restart the threads, then doesn't it still just look like the regulars posting all over again? I don't see it making much difference in appearances or enticing new people to post in it more. New members oftentimes post in our old threads and bring them back to life or join in wherever we are most active, so I do not think it's actually a deterrent to them if they see us posting in a very long thread.
Honestly, no matter what we do, it will always mostly look like 'regulars' posting and joking with each other to newcomers because that's what will typically be happening lol new people become regulars, but only if they choose to post regularly... we were all new at one point, and yet here we are. It's not like we exclude anyone or ignore people when they start posting because they aren't "one of us." We treat everyone as if they've always been here with us or like they're already our friend, I think. We're as welcoming as can be, and we genuinely want to get to know anyone who joins us.
If people look at anything as 'uninviting,' then that's seems like more of a personal issue than anything that has to do with us. What do people really expect in a forum? For it to only be filled with new members who swap out all the time instead of the same people most of the time? That's just silly and the opposite of what a forum tends to be, and if that bothers people, then IDK why they are looking to join a forum lol it's all about being part of an internet community and creating long-lasting friendships IMO.
If you open to the first page, then to get to the most recent page you click on the last number, and if it doesn't take you to the bottom, then to get to the bottom you can click the down-arrow that is found to the bottom right near the scrollbar. Or reopen the thread to the most recent post

Just my 2 pence, it's been my experience that when newbies see really long thread it assures them that the forum has been around for a long time (which is a good thing) and if it's a thread with a specific topic that historical data is important, having all the posts in one thread is much easier for searching because it's not only in one place they also might not be aware another thread of the same topic exists if it's slipped off the front page. It's all good tho!
i have a suggestion... to rid the site of the unattractiveness of the threads by Deleted members perhaps u can merge them with other threads of similar nature or other threads of the current user. like the gal that asked about hobbies for the baby...she's not here anymore but perhaps you could add it to one of the threads in the hobbies section. or delete it. since dominic and i both left at one point and came back we could have our deleted threads merged into one of our current ones.

I can do some tidying up with some of them at random in my free time. Might take a while lol
Otherwise, merging can depend on the thread, as if it's an older post than the thread's start, then it will show those posts before the others, and then the starting post won't be first anymore (where people might say what the thread is about).
I'll have to look at all the dates before deciding on which path to follow.. and test things out.
You might see me being the author a lot more lol

The Ask Women area will have to keep deleted ones.. the questions are too varied to lump them together, and conversations may still be ongoing. It's for guests anyway, so sometimes the names are random and white that match the deleted names lol
i have a question...there is only one theme that offers no shoutbox and i was wondering if we could get just a setting somewhere to turn dark mode on or off and still have the no shoutbox option? my text is larger and i like the full view of the posts. just clicking hide doesn't really open the page up for me. is that something doable?

Seem to recall seeing another with a full width screen and the shoutbox on a different page?

The only dark mode options we have is switching between the different themes. They don't have it built in or anything, but maybe one day they'll add a feature like that for us to use, but I guess that could be tricky with all the theme options and what it might make things look like lol
That's part of why I added the hide plugin to help with all the different themes for anyone who didn't want to read it lol but I do wish the hide option didn't still take up the space as if it's still over there in the same size.
Other than that, I have to manually create everything, so I'll have to combine some of the themes for you if you want a dark mode with no shoutbox. My SO is the one who made it so that even when I hid it in the no shoutbox theme that it wasn't taking up all the space because it still was doing that before, and it bothered me a lot LOL
I have added the default purple theme with no shoutbox and with large text.... Will get to work on some others. Any specific theme color you like to use most? I'll try to do both the large dark themes like this, too, but that will take a bit longer.

i like dark mode black and white with larger text and no shoutbox would be totally cool. take your time. love ya heather.
