But idk. They were NECESSITIES, so does it count? My glaasses broke so I ordered new ones. I also ordered more "sinus essential oils" for the diffuser in ALL rooms of the house cuz we ran out. But they legit help us breathe. And a shower head because mine broke.
Those purchases all 'pass'. They were all needed, in just the same way that my petrol was.
A stroke of luck yesterday. I went to Lidl to buy essential food but when I selected a trolley I found it had jammed wheels. The next was jammed too. Maybe the wet weather has swelled something? In this they had effectively shot themselves in the foot and helped me as, althought there were temptations on the center isle, I could not carry any more than I went in for so only bought essentials not any extras
I hope you left them a positive review, for looking after your finances for you....

I did go to the grocery store yesterday to buy the fresh produce needed for making split pea soup. Before Christmas, we had already bought the split peas and the ham. Now, we're using the ham bone to make the soup.

Oh dear.....
Your first fall.
But, none of us are perfect, and it's as much about finding out how difficult it is.

I am not involved in this but I think food staples should be allowed.
Agreed. All necessities should be excluded. We don't all have gardens and farms to get food from, so we rely on others for that lol skipping an entire month is out of the question for me, as I don't only eat frozen foods, but those frozen items bought in advance do save many shopping trips.
If it makes it simpler, there is also the low buy option?
This is rather as Heather has described.
I will personally be carrying on as intended, and making do, until I have to buy. Even food. I have already worked out that my always lunch of rye bread, seeds and nuts will have to change as my rye bread will not last till the end of the month, and while I have enough milk to last me if I only use it for coffee. It won't last me for the cereal I will need to have for my supper which is usually the rye bread that will not last.
I had hoped to rely more on bread, but I have just counted that there is only six slices left in the freezer.

That does make it easier if you eat the same thing most days!
I eat a variety of things most days, aside from breakfast items. I generally only have to buy breakfast every couple or few months.
Lunches... they may at times use fresher items that don't last as long (like fresh arugala, yum). Otherwise, I do have refrigerated bread for myself (GF often does not last without doing so lol), and we eat nut/seed butters as well, just not daily. I also only buy one bunch of bananas that last for about 2 weeks for protein shakes before buying again. It blends easier when they are only refrigerated vs frozen for my old blender, and it does help them last a bit longer xD
So, I do end up needing groceries every 2-3 weeks, even if just a couple of items. Then I have my larger shopping trips monthly or every other month on average. I swear stores are having less and less sales. I used to be able to stock up a lot more items in the freezer that way, and now the sales are less often, and not worth buying in bulk otherwise.

I was automatically excluding necessities anyway as bread and milk are things we need every week. There is no spare room in the freezer for extras. It is probably a time to consider using up some of the dried foodstuffs that have been around for years though
Just as a thought, if you use more water for dried foods does delaying paying the extra water bill, as they come later in the year, count as not being in January? In a similar manner, paying by credit card means that the purchases won't be charged before February.
It makes you realise how businesses and government make use of loopholes in the law

Necessities? For me, I am only going to replace them when there is no alternative. For instance when my milk runs out, I will be having black coffee, as the only milk in the house will be the so's whole milk, which I do not like.
What I am going to find difficult is buying food for the so, that I will be unable to share in. It is I who does the food shopping.
I think Candy is tempting us with the sweet treats
Yesterday, when I got the meat out of the freezer for today, I realised just how much meat I have in the freezer. It's mainly minced beef but I appear to have enough for all of January, and maybe February as well. That just be less to buy this month as some of it will have been there a while anyway.
