Continuing on the cheese theme. Don't buy grated cheese grate your own and freeze it.
If you still use washing up liquid ( dish soap) try putting it into a pump dispenser bottle that way you could resist the temptation of squishing a lot more than you need into the water.

Several years ago, I had switched shampoos. One of my pet peeves is that it's so thick, that one uses a lot more than needed to get full coverage. I typically water it down so that it's easier to work in.
Is this you being apolitical? Not everyone lives in the US, and this is not something just anyone can do at home, so not the greatest advice for this thread
a best before....date... This is a date that manufacturers guarantee the flavour and appearance of goods but they are perfectly sound to eat after that date.
A sell by... date meaning the product must be sold on or before that date but again it will be ok to eat after that date.
Then the use by.... date often on fresh products. These are slightly different and mean that the product is not fresh after that date if you eat them after this date you must rely on common sense.
By knowing what these dates mean and that food is often safe to use after certain dates you can save yourself a lot of wastage.
I expect everyone already knows this, but mince [ground meat] can be padded out with all sorts. Depending on my poverty level, at any one time I have added, peas, carrots, flour, egg [but only if frying] oats, and onions.

I think Pris was just demonstrating that comedy can be found cheaply on the internet.

I always look it up online to see just how long after the dates the food items can be safe to eat still. I do not like to waste food if I don't have to!
Im guessing most of you know that every A brand also creates other b brands and in some cases home no brands.
Look at washing powder , in Europe there are two major players Lever bros and proctor and gamble. They make many brands at various price points and much of it coming from the same factory.
( From their website) Unilever's largest detergent brand, OMO (also known as Persil, Skip, Surf Excel depending on where you live)
Flour .. finer grains etc well I know they provide flour for various supermarket brands as well.. Its the same story from tv' s to cars..
Reserch your A brand and see other companies or names they use.

Yes, store brands to substitute for name brands. Often they are just as good or so close you can't tell.

Agreed. I was never one to seek out name brands of anything (aside from cell phones and other tech things that sometimes are lower quality for not being a well-known brand), including clothing or accessories. We bought "knock offs" because why not? It's more affordable and serves the same purpose lol

Oh, another good way to save money.. if your stores have these sections... always check the discount sections where you might find things for even half the price because it's being discontinued. or no longer sold in their store. or they got something new in that needed that spot, etc.
Also, again, if your stores do this... buy the meat that is marked off/discounted because the sell by date is within a day or two. I save about $2 on meat when I do that, and I usually just immediately freeze it if I'm not going to cook something that day with it.
I am usually on the lookout for buy-one-get-one sales as well, and I will stock up when that happens. There are e-flyers I receive via email now, so I can check in advance, but I don't always do this.. if I need something, then I'll buy it regardless, but I like saving money when/where I can. A lot of items I purchase are marked off or on sale.
I never buy notepads. If post arrives and one side of the sheet is blank, I cut them into 4 and store them in a bulldog clip. This I hang in the kitchen on a back I made, and write down what shopping we need as I go along.

I agree with this.
I always try to look for a bargain: I look at the sale items. If something is too expensive, I simply won't buy it. I also accept I can't have everything I want.*
*There is an app/website where you can purchase something and receive it BEFORE paying for it. You then pay for it in 3 instalments. I shall Google it and update it here.

We do the same. We have a bag where we put the paper, which we use for shopping lists etc.
When I am washing up I tend to put a measured amount of washing liquid onto my cleaning sponge before use rather than squirt into the water. I wash the pots as soon as practical so the residue is still soft and start with an empty bowl. As it is slowly filling I start washing the pots and rinse them with the entering water. That way all the pots are often finished by the time the bowl is full, thus saving a lot of water. I have noticed that soaking the pots is counterproductive as one badly greasy pan will contaminate everything with a fine film of grease which is tedious to clean.
With use by / sell by dates we think about what we have and use smell, look etc with many things rather than the actual use by date. An interesting example which hopefully will be the same as last year is a squash which neither of us has got round to using. It is sitting in the veg basket, and has been for several weeks. It was reduced as close to it's use by date when we got it. We had a similar one last summer and it sat there for two or three months but was still very good when we eventually used it.
For the queasy look online for guidance, as previously mentioned, as things like honey last for years.
Reuse aluminian foil, reuse plastic food baggies, if you use streaky bacon save the left over fat for cooking and flavouring, if you have a garden dry your clothes outside.

You will, of course, remember scottish square slice sausage. I used to grill that, and the fat that ran off, I used to call 'free fat'.
I do the same... especially aluminum foil if it's still clean and doesn't have anything baked or caked on it, then I use it multiple times... mainly as a cover for my baking dishes while in the oven or in the fridge. It can take me a while to go through it.

Other than my home and my ex's pickup in 2001, I've never bought anything on time.
If you use social media join local exchange/sale or free groups . people exchange /sell all sorts of things and often give away perfectly good things too. Its also a great place to rid yourself of things you no longer need and could bring a few extra pennies your way.
