Kind of cross-reference from the thread about fibromyalgia, I have been saying for the last couple of years that I'm getting old and I need to get up in the night to go to the toilet but I've been analyzing my sleep and the fact is it's not my bladder that wakes me up. It's the fact that I toss and turn in bed like a rotisserie chicken because of the pain in my hip or my foot. This was clear when I got medication from my doctor which was for the pain in my hip and I slept straight through the night with no need to go to the toilet so no pain in my hip = no need for the toilet , unfortunately the painkiller also had terrible side effects that made me think I was having a heart attack it but it's helped me realize that my bladder is not the issue.
I'm looking at other ways to manage my pain and hopefully give myself a better night sleep.

Cassie, I have heard that a lot from different people, where the cure for one ailment causes secondary issues.
It must be difficult to know what to do in those circumstances. Can the Doctor offer any other alternative meds that maybe don't have adverse side effects, or has that already been done?
I hope you can find an adequate solution to give the most pain relief and give you a good night's sleep

Thanks , its a bit of a tricky one , most of the medications they offer for Oestoarthritus and Fibro are the ones mentioned above and worse.
To be honest Id rather get up in the night than take the meds they made me feel awful all week. Its not like I have trouble going back to sleep chronic fatuige does have its good points ..I rarely lay awake !
Every time I get up early I end up needing a nap later in the day.
This happened again today. I ended up sleeping on the sofa for six hours. Thankfully I woke up and got on with all the cleaning.
6 hours is almost a full nights sleep for me. I call 30 minutes a nap.
I do wonder though , Im diagnosed with fatuige yet I dont sleep as much as you. So how do doctors decide whats normal?
I think we are all so different in our sleep needs and the quality of sleep. I think maybe if your quality is bad you need more.
Doctors are only now admitting that there are different types and causes for fatuige, maybe in 20 years or so they will have a few solutions , instead of offering sleeping tablets or just telling us to get to bed early !

I woke up today, Cassie, at 8:30am. Any earlier and I'd be asleep right about now.
I do wonder too: how do doctors decide what is normal sleep? Some people need much more sleep than others: like myself. It isn't laziness or not being bothered: it is needing to sleep.
I've always slept a lot, so that is normal for me.
No one wants to get out of bed at 5:30 in the morning. Truly awful. I couldn't do it.
Its not awful , at least not in the lighter months. My alarm goes off at 5,15 now and in July or August if it gets hot maybe earlier. Then we can walk the dogs while its cool, see the wildlife and the sunrise. Early morning is magnificent and being out alone makes you feel like Queen of the world.
I slept like a log last night. I woke for the loo once but don't even really remember anything when I got back into bed as I was instantly asleep again.
