I have decided that I cannot win lol. My journey back from our art group meetings usually takes me round the outskirts of town these days. Normally, when schools are open, it is leaving time so there is much traffic. Yesterday the schools were closed but the Christmas traffic was worse

I ended up having my COVID-19 booster jab today, instead of at the beginning of January.
My dad was just driving the car to the shop and asked if I'd like to go to the drop-in centre nearby: I said I would. The jab was quick & painless. We drove to the shop a very short while afterwards and I was fine.
I am glad I didn't chicken out of the jab: I didn't want to wait until January. So I just got it over and done with today.

Mine is booked for next Tuesday. OH had his yesterday and hes feeling a bit off colour today... Hope you don't get any side effects.
Yesterday I went for a short walk in the morning. I was chasing up a parcel in the afternoon as the supplier contacted me and asked if I had received it. I had not but checked the delivery company site. No joy except for their apologies for non delivery. It looks like they may have mislaid it but it isn't a Christmas present and the supplier have already stated that they will re-send if it does not turn up. At the moment they sound like a very good company with their eye on customer service as they are quickly chasing things up without any prompting.
I'm off today so that's a plus to start. After my morning walk I plan on picking up a few things at the market and then just spending my day at home relaxing with my husband.
The old Frenchman that I run errands and for do shopping for is sick, it's just old age 89 and being worn out. I think his health conditions are now getting the better of him.
But he's not caring for himself and not allowing anyone to come and help him. When I bought the shopping to him on Thursday he asked me if I could arrange a new pillow for his bed because he says he's spending a lot of time in bed now and wanted an extra pillow. All shops are shut in lockdown so I got one of my spare pillows put a clean pillow slip on it and took it to him, he opened the door in a pair of underpants and ragged pyjama top so filthy honestly it looked as if he had escaped from some prison camp.
He asked me to come inside which was unusual in itself, and the smell and the sight that greeted me was truly disgusting. I worked for 17 years as a home carer and I have seen a lot but this was truly disgusting.
He is confused, speaking 90% french he seems oblivious to the mess he is in. I asked him if he needed help but he refused he says he wants no one in his house.
Out of desperation I have called his doctor and left a message with the receptionist that in my opinion he needs help urgently. She says she will pass the message on.
With the holiday weekend ahead there's not much else I can do,but if he is still with us after the weekend I will try contacting social services.

It sounds as if you've done the right thing by telephoning the social services, cassie.
I have made myself a cup of caffetterie coffee. I shall shower soon. I am just browsing the Internet while I drink my coffee. I will also be putting on a load of laundry and taking out the rubbish & recycling.

I was certain a parcel would arrive this morning from a friend. No sign of it....

Well I got a phone call. The doctor made a house visit this afternoon. The old man wouldn't let him in or come to the door but when the doctor went round the back and banged on the bedroom window and called out to him the old guy answered and said he was fine and he did not require any medical assistance.
The doctor agrees that this is probably the beginning of the end but as the old man is considered mentally capable they really cannot do much about it. But he says we are right to alerted him to the problem and he will try to visit again after the weekend.

Made the "mistake" of visiting my mother this morning. I should have waited until this evening or tomorrow evening...or done it earlier in the week or last weekend. Now, I have no joy.
Today is football Sunday at my house. Yes even the day after Christmas.
Today isn't football Sunday in my house - Or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday I do prefer Rugby which is more like the football over there though, just not normally Soccer which is the 'football' over here

Enjoy the game Karen
Thank you Jen. I'm familiar with Rugby ad it is played here but I am sure not to the level there.
Ive been out with the dogs and down to the chemist to pick up some extra cbd oil and some vitamins. The oil is for Murphy it just helps take the edge off his nerves with all the fireworks( mortar bombs) that keep going off. I am now in transition , in this week I will change from the smiling singing Christmas fairy into a blood thristy murderous snarling growling drooling monster ready to rip the head off of anyone who comes near with one of their mini bombs...
I hate fireworks in the hands of idiots, I hate the fact that I have to drug my dog and stand guard over my parrot because they dont understand and are scared , I hate that innocent creatures will be scared to death and that property and wildlife will be harmed in the name of fun. I hate that even though fireworks are banned due to the stain on hospitals atm idiots will still blow off their hands , fingers, heads and expect to be treated as victims and not as criminals..
This afternoon I have spent a sad hour standing in a garden while the police gained entry to my friend's house. I have been unable to reach him and today when I could not gain entry to his house and he did not answer when I called through the letterbox I had to call the police, they broke in and sadly found he had passed away at some point during the weekend.
As I am not family I have no right to decide anything but I am the official informant and so the police have said as soon as they establish that his death was natural causes I will be allowed to retrieve some of his personal belongings which I can then return to his family in France.
I wish he had accepted help maybe passed away in a comfortable hospital bed but this was what he wanted, to be left alone and die at home. Stubborn right to the last..
