Our art group met as usual yesterday. We have now organised our Christmas meal. People are coming and going quite a bit though so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
Today is Thanksgiving so I will be spending my day with my family and later with friends.
On a thursday?
That's an odd day for a national holiday. Over here our national holidays are usually Mondays, though they have also managed to sneak in easter as a weekend event.. So we don't get a holiday at all, which is weird as it is a christian country.

In the U.S., Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday in November. The day after is called Black Friday, when people start their Christmas shopping.
It had gotten ridiculous in the years leading up to the pandemic, Stores would open earlier and earlier on Friday, then openings crept into Thanksgiving, even opening as early as 4PM on Thanksgiving. In protest, I make it a point not to enter any store the entire week. I hate crowds, and I hate shopping. Black Friday excursions were never my thing. Unfortunately, I had bought tickets to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit this Saturday. Months ago, I was just looking for the first Saturday morning availability, not realizing it was the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Hopefully, the traffic won't be too horrific this year.
A lot of people's (and business) priorities/values have changed or reset since the pandemic. People are valuing their time off with family more than before, and businesses are becoming more accommodating. I'm kind of glad our ports are backed up. We don't need all that junk anyhow.
I don't mind what day of the week it falls on.. it means I get a longer weekend! We have Thurs and Fri off at my job, yay!
Today... I will be cooking our Thanksgiving meal.. but I won't be starting until around 3:30 PM. The chicken has to cook for about 2 hours, and I have to make the sides. I am defrosting a cake in the fridge, too.. Strawberries and cream. It will just be my SO and I... only his mom his vaccinated so far, so we're not hanging out with anyone still.
Happy Thanksgiving, Ladies! I hope you have a great time with friends and families, be safe.
I am getting ready to visit my parents' grave, then go to my sister for the Thanksgiving meal today.
I am done with Xmas shopping. Ordered a bunch of xmas goodies to be sent to families, friends and my staffs yesterday as wells as getting gifts for my hubby, son and his girlfiend, Coach outlets has 25% discount sales.

I did the cleaning in the morning. I wandered to my dad's house in the afternoon. I tried this chicken wrap my sister had bought me for lunch: it tasted horrible. I couldn't even manage one bite. I appreciated my sister buying me it, but I simply could not eat it. Instead I ate 4 mini crackers with cheese & cucumber on.
I also helped my sister cook dinner and went home! When I got home I logged in on here: another day nearly gone.
I got the last gifts for my grandchildren yesterday boxed them all up and Im taking the box to the parcel place today for sending..
Today Im making bread and later my friend has a hospital appointment. I dont really want to go but she need to be seen so I will be double masked and Im taking the quiet route in.
Hospital are nasty germ ridden paces at the best of times.. and this is not the best of times by a long way.
Yesterday I got online and ordered a few art materials. I got some paints and brushes and I also bought some paper including mixed media and watercolour as a stocking filler for OH for Christmas. I need to get on with the presents

Busy shopping. Later my sister and I cooked dinner. It was delicious!
When I am older I may subscribe to HelloFresh: when my sister has moved away and I'm living alone, that is what I'll be doing. I also love the HelloFresh adverts: their method of supplying foods just WORKS.
I know I am promoting HelloFresh, but I feel it is a great way for me to prepare meals as an older person, without going to the supermarket everytime I need ingredients for cooking dinner that night.

I definitely am looking to the future.
My daughter has tried the hello fresh box she says its only worth doing with the discount otherwise its just too expensive. But she did say its a great way to introduce new food and recipes to an unadventurous eater like her husband.

Went to the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit in Denver this morning, then IKEA to pick up a few things. Even though much of the second floor was cordoned off for flood repair, it wasn't overcrowded. Traffic back to and through the Springs wasn't any worse than any other Saturday, which was also good. Dad took us out to Texas Roadhouse for dinner...not on my list of favorites, but he likes it. It was overcrowded, as usual for a Saturday evening. Overall, the day went better than expected.

This morning I drank my caffetterie coffee, had my daily shower, put on a load of laundry and am now browsing the Internet. I am also airing out my apartment: just to wake me up.
I shall be having lunch at the house: we are having smoked salmon on rolls. Yummy!
Ive been out with the dogs , showered dressed , had breakfast and now Im going to try to skype with mum again.. For the past two Sundays she has been offline. Then later in the day she has texted or given me a quick call to say shes been sleeping and didnt feel well enough to get up.
Her heart condition is going downhill she says she doesnt have enough energy to do anything and she is hardly eating now. I keep expecting the call to tell me she has passed away.
The lesson to be learned from this is listen to doctors , dont ignore health issues and get yourself informed. Mum was told she was a diabetic and kept say óh one chocolate wont kill me' Óne fizzy drink wont hurt' then her kidneys failed, she lost most of the feeling in her legs and her eyes have been affected, now shes developed a heart condition basically from the strain of dealing with the rest of the problems.
She still wont listen to doctors.
Sometimes I want to bang her head against a wall but whats the point?

I am sad to hear that, cassie. Unfortunately - as you've found out - some people don't want to be helped. Some people simply won't allow others to help them. I think it is something to do with pride and not wanting to admit they've got it wrong.
I lost my mum in February 2014. It is strange that she isn't here, yet I feel she's gone onto a better place. You have to believe that to cope with death: at least I do. If you think there's nothing after death, it prolongs mourning even more and worsens the pain. That's why I choose to believe in God, anyhow.
I know your mum hasn't died, though: but she is suffering. I guess she just does not want to admit defeat: that she should've followed doctor's orders years back. Still, she's got you and her/your family. If she does pass away, I am sure it will be peacefully. My aunt died a few months ago: she simply fell asleep and never woke up. She did not suffer.
I know it's hard, but time goes on and at least your mum has you to support her.

Thanks, Im glad you have faith to support you. I dont but I do believe that death is natural and in some cases a better alternative to living.
Mum isnt online , Ive tried texting and calling her but she isnt responding.
I dont know if she is asleep or out with my brother or if something bad has happened.
Its true some people wont let themselves be helped. In 2016 I arranged an appartement in a sheltered housing that she could move to and she refused. It was only half a mile from where she is now but even so she wouldnt move. So I got occupation therapy to come to her house to see what help she could have they arranged some extra grips and a bath chair lift so she could bathe more easily. I arranged a home carer but she sent the person away after the first visit.
There really isnt anything else I can do from here and I am not going to leave OH here to go to London and waste my time trying to arrange anything else , my brother is there but he never lifts a finger to help.
To be perfectly honest Ive given up on all of them.

I'm sending my best wishes and prayers for your mother Cassie.
Well wonders will never cease. I decided to watch some online videos and do some ironing suddenly mum called via Skype. She's ok but still complaining that she is tired has no appetite and is very forgetful. She says she's going to the hospital on Tuesday but she can't remember why.
We have been spending most of this long weekend doing chores. Today we'll be cleaning some more.. mostly vacuuming. We're going to exercise first, though!
I was working on planning the shelvings for all the cabinets in the house. The contractor will make them this week. I have also purchased 20 6ft blue Italian cypres for the house, the back order is 2 months.

I had Christmas cards ready to send to several friends in the US (from the old iVillage days) and two parcels for the second oldest and younger sisters, who likely won't make it this way again till next year. My oldest sister is here in town, so her gift will be wrapped next and I'm going to give an extra gift she can have early: the new ABBA CD, since she was the big ABBA fan of the family. (My record is coming, so I did a digital backup and I'm passing on the CD. Not my fave ABBA album, but a definite souvenir.)
Other than that, we've done easy school stuff: Mad Libs for English, learning about Hanukkah (History and Bible classes), and current events as well from a Canadian news site.
I had a nice cold walk yesterday (brrr...), then, later I sorted out some of my art things. I am still working on the ideal setup for 'en plein air' work next summer.
