TV was a bit poor on choice last night but I did have a copy of 'Goldfinger' which came very cheap from a sale at the local library, if I remember rightly. I enjoyed the film. A little dated but entertaining.

It's a shame they didn't over dub Alan Partridge's version.

Shaken, not stirred please...
If you have it shaken, some of the alcohol gets left in the shaker.
Kinda mad I missed a new episode of Doctor who last night.
It had David tennant in as well, my favourite.
Guess I'll have to stream it, (something I hate doing for some reason)
The Dr and Donna it was good. Well worth streaming
I enjoyed it too. I did watch it later on iplayer. I found it fiddly to find though as they are plugging Dr Who like crazy on the player at the moment so there are many dead ends.

I watched three Star Trek movies in November because of their release dates way back when. I think there might be another three in December, so that could be fun to do again.
I watched the new Doctor Who special on Saturday at lunchtime (available earlier, but at the same time as Shabbat service!) and then I chose another for the evening: The Husbands of River Song.
I have access to a lot more Who lately: Tubi for classic Who, newest Who on Disney+, and then my own personal collection has increased because there were good deals recently on the 12th and 13th Doctors' sets.
Also, I'm almost finished Season 5 of Call the Midwife, so I'll snag Season 6 today at the library. :
I watched Clueless last night. It was the last movie I completed before the middle guy was born, so it's a great reason to watch it on/near his birthday.

I still quote parts of that movie...
"You're a virgin who can't drive" is my non-serious diss lol

From the reviews I've read the new movie release, "Napoleon", is a bomb (dud anyway). The main problem is likely too much real content for a two hour movie.
A movie or better yet a series about Napoleon sounds wildly entertaining. But I knew it was beyond Hollywood, these days anyway.
I am intrigued enough now though to locate a good old history book.

I'm almost done with all the Star Trek December movies. I'd forgotten to check the first three ever made and was pleasantly surprised to find the very first was Dec. 7. I enjoyed it, though I did make the decision to snag the Director's Edition for my next viewing. Just one more tonight: Insurrection, which I've always enjoyed.
Time to get out the Christmas movies next!
I also have a lot of random DVDs sitting around to be watched/tried, from library book sales and such. So even though our public library will be closed between Christmas and New Year's, I'm going to be just fine as far as things to watch. (And it's not like I don't have hundreds of books in my house for print materials!)
And how could I forget to chat about the Doctor Who specials? Three weeks in a row! I liked them and I'm interested to see what comes next with a new Doctor. Definitely looking forward to the Christmas special. (Along with the Call the Midwife special, too.)

I watched the latest Dr Who at the weekend. I have to admit that it is losing me. Too much fantasy and too little science. I won't let on in case I spoil it for someone but I think it has lost it's way and is attempting to find a new direction. I read an article a week or so ago about it. Apparently the Christmas special will be Christmassy and have golblins. From the article it appears that the series will go more into fantasy. It's not really my cup of tea.
On a different note (and maybe you may think I am going gaga lol), I watched "The Famous Five - The Curse of Kirrin Island" on catch up (shown on CBBC). It does not get brilliant write ups but I really enjoyed it. When I was little I read all the books so recognised the characters easily. It is fantasy but simple childhood fantasy. Things like I dreamed.

Ive seen the three specials and I enjoyed them. As Jen says it is moving away from the science although who knows what the new Dr will bring but what I can say is that the return of Russell T Davies as the writer is evident . Sorry but Steven Moffett did his best and was ok although I never really gelled with Matt Smith and Chris Chibnall ruined it for many of us.
So Im happy to see the Davies /Tennet/Tate combo make a return.
Truth, I've never watched a single episode of Dr. Who. I assume the earliest episodes are the best.
From the reviews I've read the newest have devolved into woke claptrap. Wrong?
That would be my take on it.I find the earliest much better but they are very dated now so are lacking in production / acting etc by modern standards. Many of the episodes have been lost too. I find that the doctor's adversaries, while in the past were dangerous, now go too far and often threaten the end of the universe. It's like there are no simple things like in the past. It has to be the end of everything. My view though is that the BBC are pushing forward with their drive to educate the community on social issues, with the different doctors and gender / sexual issues while tending toward the modern taste for fantasy rather than pure science.
It's a more modern take as the original doctor was set in a fantasy environment, as well as the science, but, for me, his Victorian (or would it be Edwardian) looks and approach gave it an appeal which is lost wth me in the modern superficial treatment. Even the tardis is too much now. Originally it was almost menacing as the controls were so "there in your face" and appeared functional. Now they look more like something out of Willy Wonka's factory. One cannot dispute that "Lord of the Rings" or "Harry Potter" are good and entertaining but I don't think that Dr Who needs the same subject matter. Why not follow things like artificial intelligence or advanced medical science. Something to provoke the imagination, which is what inspired me when I was little.

My advice is not to bother with the new series if you dont like fantasy,, Russell T Davies has said this is the way its going to go.
As I said I didnt like Steven Moffetts writing much and I think Chris Chibnall almost killed it off. But even I can understand that the Rosa Parks story (21 oct 2018) Had its place it was at a time when BLM was high in the news and many children wont have known who Rosa Parks was or why this was a turning point in history so it was relavant if a bit heavy handed, similarly the Demons of the Punjab episode ( 11 nov 2018) which covered the partition of India , not my favourite but I get it .. Partition and the disgusting way the British handeled it is not a subject talked about in schools so if this raised the subject and caused even a few people to talk about the subject then it is good but again I agree it was very heavy handed and political.
Tv shows are driven by viewing figures and a quizzical old man in an antique flying box are not going to get the attention of the masses these days. Yes the whizz bang explosions and special effects overload are OTT and not very British but Dr Who now has to cater to an international audience spoiled by CGI and the budget of the flashy US shows.
is The 100 really cool? I have seen that for quite some time but I just go jumping with my control, lol!
Idk if you have watched it yet but I absolutely LOVED this show. I saw it around forever and it took my husband convincing me to watch it with him I regret nothing!
Everyone keeps telling me how awesome the 100 is. I tried to watch the first episode and I couldn't get into it which was weird because stories like that are right up my ally.
I think I need to give it another chance!
You most def should! It gets AMAZING about 3 episodes in and never lets up. There is 1 season I can do without, but it all made sense for the storylines.
