Just started season 1 of Happy Valley. Nice to see so many tv progs featuring women in gritty roles.
Oh Happy Valley is gritty alright..
brilliant drama and it doesnt avoid the issues..
S'funny coz I recall disliking Sarah Lancashire, coz she was so girly-girly. I only really tried this as she was so good in Last Tango In Halifax, which I loved.
The last episode of season two of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder titled, "Juneteeth" is probably one of the better episodes of the whole show. I wouldn't be surprised if it wins some award despite the fact it's common knowledge.

I'm finishing up my Valentine's Day choice. I highly recommend the 1995 Persuasion movie with Ciaran Hinds. I love that natural lighting was used throughout, and there are piano pieces beautifully sprinkled in to set the mood. Still the best adaptation that's been done of the novel. (1995 and 1996 were great years for Jane Austen shows: Pride & Prejudice, two good versions of Emma, Sense & Sensibility... And maybe you could also count Clueless, a modern take on Emma.)
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, or simply referred to as "Brotherhood," is the latest anime series to bear the name after the previous 2003 series, simply titled Full Metal Alchemist, and based on the manga of the same name. While the 2003 series took several creative liberties due to airing around the time when each edition of the manga was being published. Brotherhood delivers the story as it is told in the manga. The events are set in a fictional world within the country of Amestris and explores the political tensions that arose from their actions toward the nation of Ishval. The main characters are two brothers by the names of Edward and Alphonse Elric who learned first hand about the dangers of forbidden alchemistic practices when they attempted to revive their deceased mother and paid dearly with the loss of Ed's arm as well as Alphonse's body. In order to preserve the body of his brother while he attempts to figure out a way to reserve the effects. Edward decides to bind his soul to a large metallic suit of armor. Along the way, the boys meet several characters who aid them on their journey of renewal. One notable character is that of Winry Rockbell who serves as the mechanic and emotional support for the brothers acting as a kind of sisterly figure.
What makes this series and the manga it is inspired from special is that of the creator's, Hiromu Arakawa, extensive research into the practices, beliefs, and customs of real world alchemists during a period when such study was more common. The series touches upon several philosophical and moral dilemmas of life and existence as well as the very concept of God. All based and inspired by real world alchemy. You can learn more about the amount of depth this series takes from the video provided below. Note that there are spoilers in this video so it may benefit you to watch after you finished the series if you intend to watch it.
The amount of character depth is also another stand-out from this series as each battle and each discovery can fill the viewer with a strong sense of attachment leaving them rooting for the characters by the end of the series. The villains make you despise them for reasonable and logical reasons instead of being cookie-cuter bad guys. The sense of brotherhood between Edward and Alphonse as well as the sense of family when Winry is included is enough to encourage emotional attachment from any potential viewer. The soundtrack is also another reason to watch as each individual composition is filled with momentum, build, inspiration, motivation, and a sense of witnessing something that could only be described as epic. All in all, this series remains as one of the all time greatest animes in the history of modern day anime. This series is available on Crunchyroll and Hulu.

I would imagine it’s romantic if the couple watching engages in roleplaying yandere scenarios.

How’d the 2023 British version of Hollywood’s “Oscars” work out? It didn't, it seems, because too many white people won. Frankly I don’t care, maybe I should. But I don’t.
To me, give all entertainment awards to minorities if it helps.
The problem with entertainment awards is that judgements are totally subjective. I mean how does one really compare a western to a human drama to a science fiction movie anyway?
To me, movies that remain popular over the years are truly the best. And I think awards aren’t really good at picking those. So judges; give the awards to whoever you feel most deserving for whatever reasons.. I’ll let ticket sales tell me which to actually attend.

I am afraid that, with my aversion to films with a high degree of intense drama, I actually avoid watching any film that does well with the Oscars, knowing that the film will make more of a show of the actor than the actual storyline. I am not keen of idols, and don't freak out over any movie star. They are, after all, just actors doing a days work like anyone else. The Oscars, and similar awards, are really for the 'trade'.

I agree with you there. It IS a job. Admittedly it isn't the job of your Average Joe and Jane but it is still work.
I do appreciate these actors work but they are just human.

Im much like this with films and books too while they are being hyped to death I dont bother. I do love films with a story, rather than the constant fighting and blowing things up type of thing.
Ive also never understood the idolisation of actors or musicians. I had friends who camped out at Stings house.. I couldn't see the point myself.
Today, I learned that Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain and there was a horror movie made using the characters called Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. YouTuber penguiz0/MoistCr1TiKaL, also known as, Charlie did a vlog review of the film. ( Winnie the Pooh Horror Movie is Awful ) I cannot help but question if there is going to be a forgettable horror movie about Mickey Mouse since he is set to enter the public domain in 2024.

I feel the same. These celebrities are only human. Of course, their work can be incredible. I also agree about watching a film for its storyline, rather than violence and action. I still like action movies but prefer softer films.

I just wonder why anyone has to do anything like that.

Because they're horror fans? I mean, that's probably the bulk of the reason. The only thing is that you get horror fans, like Gabby, who succumb to 'horror brain' thinking only about horror elements instead of plot or story.

I'm one of the biggest horror fans out there but Winni and Mickey! Not necessary.
We're watching Arrested Development before it leaves Netflix in March lol we never watched the newer ones.. but didn't remember any of the older ones either.

I watched Everything Everywhere All at Once over the weekend. Overall, I say Yes to adults watching it. Some of the humour didn't work for me, but I liked when the movie focused on the family, and the multiverse aspect was interesting (despite my not believing that as a reality - it's fun for entertainment, though, just like Elves and Dwarfs and Ents!). I really like watching Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan. ("Goonies!")
Up soon: Jesus Revolution, and there'll be a new episode of Star Trek: Picard this week. Might not get to the new Mandalorian right away, but it'll be the worth wait, I bet!

Hubby and I saw it a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I became interested in it after I heard that Michelle Yeoh's part was originally offered to Jackie Chan.
I have to admit that we just limit ouselves to the BBC, with their license fee, when paying for TV shows. It could well get out of hand with all the extras that are cropping up everywhere and limiting things to one means that I do have time for hobbies and reading which is far healthier and interesting than being addicted to TV, which I would be if I got too engrossed.
We ditched Netflix and Disney last year as well as our extensive cable package. We now have an internet tv subscription which gives us loads of channels that we dont watch but lots of great tv shows and films which we prefer.
I have just basic tv 26 channels and we dont even watch all of them.
Thumbs up to the new Mandalorian episode. It felt too short, which probably means it was doing just right. Not dragging at all in that hour.
I enjoyed the new Picard episode, too, though the choices and attitude of one character changed for the worse during the show and that was annoying. Will see if the writers give enough reason for that, by the time the season ends.
