I might be getting into the first 1960 series of "Star Trek". It's pretty cool, actually.
It was groundbreaking. It gave women important roles and it broke rules ... It introduced the concepts of new technology that we have only seen in real life recently..
* "Plato's Stepchildren" is the tenth episode of the third season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek. Written by Meyer Dolinsky and directed by David Alexander, it was first broadcast on November 22, 1968.
In the episode, the crew of the Enterprise encounter an ageless and sadistic race of humanoids with the power of telekinesis.
The episode is notable for depicting a kiss between a white man (Kirk) and a black woman (Uhura), which was among the earliest instances of this on a US television show.
It was one of several episodes not screened by the BBC because of their "unpleasant" content, including torture and sadism.*

That's incredible. For the year 1968 it shows forward thinking. The writers of the show maybe belonged to the future themselves.

I believe Callan preceded that. There were black/white relationships with the white woman betraying her country for love. Likewise for gay relationships, and more that don't immediately spring to mind.
It used to make me think, coz this dangerous killer was on 'our' side, and he dressed, looked, and acted just like most any ordinary middle aged man.
Many years ago she bought a house. My father went into the garden and noticed a drain cover with the stamp GLC (greater London council) so he said Óh ex-council house is it'?
Madam replied .. These are private residences we have no council types here.. ( at the time my father was a caretaker for the GLC)...
Fast forward 10 years..
I went over to her house for lunch with my then new husband, he went outside for a cigarette noticed the draincover, now partly covered by a large pot and said...Oh you bought an ex - council house did you?
Well Madam could hardly contain her indignation... Turning to me she said . As I informed your father some time ago these are and always have been private residences...
That was the last time we were ever invited to her house.

We were visiting my in laws, when my daughter [about 4] said to my sil. What is that you are tipping out the bottle, can I have some on my chips too?
It was brown sauce.
I turned to my ex and said: "It's good that she gets to see and even participate in how the ordinary people live."
My sil was not amused, but didn't know how to reply when I said "Are you not an ordinary person?"
...and still I wonder why I am not always popular.

i have hulu + live for almost $80 a month. right now there are zero tv or movies that interest me. i ended up watching the beginning of the kitchen on tubi tv last night. and hulu keeps emailing these ads for new programming that's available and they're not new. i don't wanna give up the live cuz that's how i get to see some shows i like that i can't get free. i like the equalizer with queen latifa. i've always liked her anyway. i often wonder what she's like in real life.
I saw the trailer for that version of Persuasion, but objected to the dialogue not fitting well with the period. I can be a bit of a snob with Jane Austen adaptations!
I started 24 last night. Only saw snippets before. We'll see how long I enjoy it...

If it's the same 24 as I saw some years back I did enjoy it but it was something that I would only want to watch once. I hope you enjoy it

I watched a Christmas movie last night, since it's only 5 months till Christmas! There was even a section on one streaming service called Christmas in July. I chose Banking on Love from that section, and I thought the writing was great for some scenes with just the main couple. Maybe the director and editor could have worked a bit harder on the beginning and end of the movie, but I'd still recommend it.
Debating whether to pick another Christmas one for tonight. I could go with the Muppet Christmas Carol or another one in my own collection... (And I should play the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack a little later - jazzy, fun, and great background music with the kids.)
