Netflix still has plenty of good shows... I just wish they'd stop canceling things so quickly lol
I know some of the inside scoop on that and it all comes down to money. Most actors who are in a new show sign a 1-2 year contract and of a show becomes popular they ask for money beyond 1-2 seasons which Netflix is nefarious for refusing to do unless the show is SUPER popular.
That said no matter how popular a show is, there is almost no chance it will go beyond fives seasons (under Netflix production) because after five seasons royalties become a big issue because some people (other than principal actors) will start receiving them. This might change on the future because they may be able to offset some of the cost via ads.

I must say that after 5 seasons, most are running on empty, and are only fit for the knackers yard. .

I hope they won't do this with some of the newer shows that can go on for a very long time. Some are made for it more than others, so I don't mind when some wrap it up by season 5 or so.
Look at Law & Order as an example of a show that never has to stop lol Netflix could use some of those, too.

Excited for Star Trek night! If I've got time, I could watch both the new episode of Strange New Worlds and one episode (or part of?) from Season 2 of Enterprise.
Only seen episode 1 so far. I will persevere, but it's a bit of a chick flick, and a bit cliche. It could do with a bit more depth to the characters. It's maybe early days yet.

You can't go wrong with Star Trek! One of my favourites.
At the moment I am watching some early Dr Who. I have watched the series " The Mind Robber" from 1968 and have started watching "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" series from 1964 (not the film version). I also have "The Green Death" series from 1973. On reading the writeup of the latter it seems that by 1973 the BBC have started to write in the roots of the moral and political correctness that now so screw up their modern storylines (at least to me). Although the ones I have watched and started watching really do show their age, what with being in monochrome and having limited effects they really do have a nieve charm and are a pleasure to watch. It's so nice just to have a simple storyline without being pushed into the side dramas of cryptic messages on sexual orientation, race and politics.
Thinking back, Dr Who was one of my influences which pushed me toward science and engineering. I can still look at the old ones and dream of how such things could be made to work. It may or may not just be nostalgia but when I watch a modern Dr Who it just does not have that same effect. There is just too much drama and bells and whistles in it these days. The senses are pushed too hard leaving little scope for simple imagination. Maybe it's me getting old and present day youth thrive on it. It seems more to me that the side issues are more the point being pushed than the real storyline though. Personally I was always into it more from the science than that. If I wanted drama I would watch "Eastenders". I don't and I won't .

I may not watch new Dr Who's either. We'll see
It's only a few years since I last watched Blake's 7, made by the Dr Who producers, and I am looking forward to seeing it again. I know the special effects were made to a standard equatable to primary school children, but the plots, characters, and ideas are still very tangible.

Do you still collect books? I have pretty much stopped, much more selective in my purchases anyway. I re-discovered the public library some time ago. The library is a mixed bag, but you can take out quite a few books at one time.
I am steadily reducing my book collection by taking some to the book exchange. I have hundreds so they take up a lot of space.
I boxed mine up ready to move but before I move I want to go through them again.. I mean some of the encyclopedia are old now and no one uses them and the complete works of Shakespeare ...nice but he always did give me a bit of a headache..
