I can't answer that one for you... I got halfway through the first film found it so stupid I fell asleep and I've never bothered trying to follow it again.
I watched them at the cinema when my son was at home. I see clips on TV but, usually, I fidget too much to last an entire film.

You should complain... I have a daughter who's, very successful, diet plan revolves around fidgeting.
Wow, I'm sorry that I mentioned it. lol... I am afraid to say that I like them...
Absolutely not they are a worldwide hit I just wonder what it is about me that I I can't seem to focus on them. It's the same with the hobbit and lord of the rings I've read both books so many times I've lost count. I absolutely love those stories but I cannot watch the films they just do not grab my attention.
I liked the Harry Potter movies myself when they released, I'm just not into stories of magic as much anymore. Middle Earth and Narnia are the biggest exceptions for me and they have less spell magic, so that may be why. Good on screen, too. (I have the 80's BBC Narnia, partly for nostalgia, plus the more recent.)
It's nice that we can point people to the books if these fantasy stories don't work for them on film. Something for everyone!

As a big reader let me ask . do you agree that some books just dont translate? Could it be that as readers we miss something in these film versions?
Some books dont translate from language to language, I can read John Grisham or Patricia Cornwell in Dutch or English but Dick Francis and Ian Rankin just dont translate well..
I remember seeing a Nikki French adaptaion on film and it was awful. they introduced new people and even changed the killer !
I wonder if I would like Harry Potter in book version? If I see one second hand I might buy it just to see.

The best example of not transferring for me was "The Time Travellers Wife." Awesome book. Snore, snore, yawn film.
Alternatively; One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Awesome book, and awesome film, even though they were very different.
any of you watch yellowstone? i used to watch old westerns with dad when we were kids and he had some playing this week at the house. yellowstone is a western and pretty good. like a western soap opera.
i'm not sleeping good tonight so i might be in and out.

I love the movie "Legend". I subscribe and watch it on YouTube.
It is such a brilliant film. I've watched it 100's of times now. I love the characters. Lily and Jack are perfectly suited. The devil is amazing and utterly cool. I also love the fairies and other mythological creatures.
I guess Legend appeals to me because I am half-Irish and have an interest in Irish folklore.
If you guys subscribe to YouTube, you also get access to other movies not available on Amazon or other websites.

I would try the HP books. We have second-hand copies that the oldest keeps on his shelf (though he's missing one, so he borrows the library's copy when he's reading through in order). There are nice illustrated hardcovers (but expensive) that are a bit scary for the youngest to see, so we have our two put away for now.
I think that usually movies do a fairly good job, but there are just times that the pacing means they miss out on depth. Sometimes there wasn't a ton of depth to start with (like the Twilight series) but still, the pacing is too fast to make a ton of sense and hook the audience.
So far, one movie I enjoyed better than the book was The Jane Austen Book Club. Didn't work for me when I tried to read it, but that was after seeing the movie first...
And two examples of stories that are quite different book vs movie, but both formats enjoyable: Ella Enchanted is one, The Princess Diaries is another. You just have to try to think of them as completely separate, even though they have characters in common.

This resonates with me.
When you watch a film and read the book after, it can seem a different perspective on the story. I do also think the opposite to this, too: in the Harry potter books you get details and extra scenes the movie just cannot provide, because of the movie's time restrictions. The film has a good 2 to 3 hours running time: the book in its entirety lasts a good 4 to 5 hours: you get what I'm saying.
However, there are conflicting views on whether it is better to read the book or watch the film. Both are usually great, but - again - there are differences in opinion.
So far, I'm okay with the new season of Star Trek Discovery, but it could be a bit better. Not even sure what's missing... Maybe I'll have that figured out by the time the season ends.
Loving the documentary series that airs right after, Center Seat. There's so much to learn about Star Trek when it's been around for 55 years! Might be nice if they talked more about the books, too - it's all about the shows and movies with occasional mentions of merchandise and books.
Professor T is on Disney + . I didnt see this because its on ITV and we dont get ITV here, so Im pleased to see it pop up I like the silly detective things.

How to get Rebecca to watch a Christmas movie on TV: Name it Pride, Prejudice & Mistletoe. The story was okay and not too different from most Christmas movies, though I was diverted by trying to determine which character names corresponded to Jane Austen's characters. (Darcy was the female lead in this movie, with Luke in Lizzie's place. That was just the start, of course, for characters, but most of the plot didn't follow P&P.)
Oh this has made me laugh , cringe and want to reach for a large blunt object..Its classic British humour much like the Royale Family.. No sugar coatings..
