TV viewing vs Internet usage? I do too much of both. Thankfully I have mild OCD.
My internet usage is way more than TV viewing lol but it's because I need it for work even. My TV use is also mostly streaming services... but I do have Sling TV for random stuff to watch at times.
I just finished season 3 of Mr Mercedes. Really good. If you like Stephen King, and thrillers with a light touch of the supernatural. you will love it.

I'm not really a TV person. In fact, I attended night school for 5 years. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have the qualifications I gained. Because if I'd stayed in watching Star Trek or whatever, I would not have my charity job. I also attended a social club in the evening for many years. I had experiences and friends I wouldn't have today if I had watched TV. I talk to my friends on the phone in the evening, too.
I can happily live without the television. Plus, you don't see the actors watching TV. I feel like a sucker watching actors: they're having the time of their lives, but they would never be that way with me. They live in their mansions while we all live with lesser money. It puts me off watching TV. I don't like canned entertainment, either. I would much rather be on the Internet.
I am in two minds here as, although I am not really a TV person either and avoid soaps and most canned entertainment like the plague I have found that many, particularly sci fi, programs (including Star Trek) have heavily influenced me to science as a career, and still very heavily influence me. I find that I don't just look at sci fi as entertainment but get involved so if (say) Scotty on Star Trek needs to avoid a core breach due to an anti-matter containment failure I think about how anti-matter (which does exist but whose reactions are used in the fictional Enterprise's warp core) would actually be contained and how I might actually sort it in real life. I am afraid I get super nerdy lol

Oh join the gang, having discussions about how artifical gravity might actually be achieved... Of course on ST the anti matter is contained by the dilithium crystals but as these are also fictional..... But Nasa has been toying with a warp drive or similar system...
But the injections used in the sick bak , communicators, the computors, the hand held scanners (think phone apps that identify plants and fungi) most obviously the shuttle craft have all been replicated in some way or to some extent in the real world.
Star Trek inspired people and had fans across the cultures Steven Hawking even appeared in one episode.
Im on episode 3 of Mr Mercedes... not much supernatural yet...
On another note I was up late last night and watched BBC2 documentary 'a life in 10 pictures'. Last night was Muhammad Ali ... I had almost forgotten how funny he was. Yet again watching him one word sprang to mind, beautiful.
Im so glad Im of an age that I remember him he really was 'the greatest'

If that is season 1... There is no supernatural until season 2.
Ali was a beauty. The only time I have ever watched boxing was when he was fighting.

My first streaming experience was with Netflix, but then I found I wasn't as interested anymore in what they offered. Now there are so many choices of sites/apps that it's overwhelming!
For now, I'm going to stick with Disney+. I also have access to Prime Video because of Amazon Prime being both shipping and video. (Bet that'll change eventually so they can charge for them separately and make more money.)
I do donate to a couple of sites that stream content, but I consider that charity and not a streaming expense. (Maybe silly of me to say so, yet I'm making that distinction in my mind. Feels better to donate and then use the site when I remember, rather than pay for something I forget about!)

An interesting point which makes me think. We use quite a lot of nominally free or open source software, even having some computers using Linux too so do dontate some too but more for systems and utilities rather than streaming. Not really something I would call charity. In fact, for streaming, we just use the ordinary channel streaming services which are funded by adverts. I have come across a utility that enables streaming from lots of countries though which I need to look into further. It is free too but the software may ask for donations.
I do think there are too many streaming services about these days though. Paying the BBC fee, I think is enough, so don't use others. In some cases, like 'Britbox' for instance, I am amused that the programs people would complain about being repeats a few years ago they are now willingly paying extra to see. It perhaps says something about many of the more recent programs?

I grant that adult language, violence and sexual content are often needed to develop real life characters and personalities in movies and such. But sometimes these can become gratuitous and over the top, to me anyway.
But the sex part is what I wonder about most. I'm finding it difficult to recall a movie that required explicit sex scenes to be meaningful. I could be wrong perhaps and have missed some really "good" movies. But often times a good story line and suggestion are more than enough for a movie to seem real and entertaining.

(Pornography is what it is, a different animal.)
I quite agree.
When the bedroom door shuts, I have a good idea what is going on. Likewise when I see a knife appear and the pool of blood.
We started watching Lilyhammer. It's entertaining lol
Pffft.
Did I not rave about this way back when the dinosaurs were still adding anchovies to their pizzas?
I'm slow to get to shows, but I'll get through a lot of them eventually LOL I only watch one show at a time unless it's the type that comes out only once per week, then I'll watch that plus one streaming show with all the episodes already available.
In a few years I'm sure I'll get to some other suggestions xD
