I grant that adult language, violence and sexual content are often needed to develop real life characters and personalities in movies and such. But sometimes these can become gratuitous and over the top, to me anyway.
But the sex part is what I wonder about most. I'm finding it difficult to recall a movie that required explicit sex scenes to be meaningful. I could be wrong perhaps and have missed some really "good" movies. But often times a good story line and suggestion are more than enough for a movie to seem real and entertaining.
(Pornography is what it is, a different animal.)
I can do without the sexual parts.
That's good timing for this comment because one show I just finished (Longmire) had a sex scene between two people that felt so wrong and gross... I did not want to see it, and it lasted too long for me lol I'm just glad it only happened the once.. if I had to see that multiple times.. UGH.
Talking explicit. I started to watch a Russian film last night I only made the first 20 minutes. Explicit is one thing this wasn't even pornographic it was just brutal. The violence and the sex were just cruel and sadistic. It was supposed to be a spy movie.
It was a complete change this morning when I watched the end of a Korean war film made in the 1950's. Corny wasn't the word as the parts were mostly played with actors with broad American accents. I suppose the McCarthy influence was so strong that even the communists were not allowed to be communist lol. It was early enough for there to be some original war footage though so it was not all false.
Started watching a cable show The Nevers, set in victorian London a group of women with slightly odd 'gifts' have some unknown enemy who wants to abduct or lock them up..

One of my favourite box sets is "Tru Calling". I have watched it millions of times and have never gotten bored. I also like "Alias", "Sheena" and "Charmed".
I tend to stick with old favourites than new box sets.
Dire rubbish.. I had to turn my phone off last night because people kept apping with stupid updates about even more stupid songs and meaningless voting... I wish this dinosaur would just die.

Charmed, that's one I like. I watched every episode on Netflix last year or so. I used to watch it sometimes on TV back in the day, but I don't think I actually saw every episode.

You are not alone in this. It was amusing years ago but tastes change. I cannot really comment further as we totally avoided it but the last I saw seemed to compare similarly with a lot of modern TV entertainment.
I think the "Enterprise" (Star Trek show) had a crew of 500. What did they all do?
Captain Kirk beamed everywhere across the galaxy it seemed. Yet I never saw him once walk by a laundry or a person with a mop and bucket.
The movie starring Jeff Goldblum, "The Fly" was creepy and clever.
Not only, but when Kirk beamed down, he took the second in command, the only doctor, the chief engineer, and the navigator...........
Not forgetting of course, the guy who was going to be killed, or left behind.
I have been watching a few episodes of the original series recently as it is on at 6 O clock on the Horror Channel. I remember Kirk and his senior crewmembers, obviously, but it is interesting to think of what fate awaits the odd crewmember I don't recognise. It's funny how memory is. There is much I don't remember but the 'Tribbles' episode was so familiar that I remembered almost all even though I hadn't seen it for many years.
One thing they seemed to have missed with technology is the robots with their 'mops and buckets' though. As we have cleaning and grass cutting robots now I cannot believe they will not have better in the future lol

Of course there had to be disposable crew men thats true in RL too..
As for cleaning sorry to go all Trekkie on you but the crew clean up after themselves just as in the military, the ship is deep cleaned every time it goes into space dock and we do see than from time to time and laundry is done via a clothing processor chuck your laundry in and it comes back all neatly cleaned and pressed. Of course in 10 forward (TNG) and the bar of DS9 we see bartenders pouring drinks and clearing tables old style...
The whole idea of ST is that old idea of working for money is gone and people work or engage in studies that further and stretch themselves as indivduals.
My dad loves Columbo and while my parents were here he would watch it late at night. Well now I am hooked on it and will be watching all those old episodes.

I loved it initially, but, well, I shant tell you what aggravated me so much after a few episodes...

I loved Star Trek growing up. I also loved Babylon 5. Andromeda is also awesome.
I LOVE science fiction. I often write about space travel in my poetry and short stories. I love NASA and their work, too. I get very excited when it comes to cosmology and space travel. I don't watch Star Trek anymore BUT I do still feel the programmes worth watching. Star Trek took over the planet. Each TV series - and the films - have been completely adored by fans all over the world.
I know I am a geek but I LOVE being a geek! Geeks rock the planet.

I have not yet read the Dune books. But I shall! I will order a copy from my local library. It is a book I HAVE heard of: and its title intrigued me. I do know Dune is one of Grimes' favourite books, you see.
Thank you for the suggestion! I will most certainly read it soon. I love reading anyway, so it'll be another book to borrow from my library.
