I don't have a gun and support gun control in this country. When I talked to a friend about banning guns, she said "Don't ban the guns, just ban the ammunition; that way they would have to throw guns at people."
It was not immediately obvious how dangerous guns are when my daughter at age 5 asked for a go on the ps1 with the ps1 gun. She had worked out if you stand right next to the screen you can always hit the target.
It was slightly later that it dawned on me, just how right she was.
At the age of 5 she could have killed someone almost effortlessly.
I personally do not have any, but my boyfriend has two. That way he has easy access to one depending on where he is.
I never really knew many people who had guns when growing up, but it's very common in the south to have them. Everyone (pretty much) is a gun fanatic practically in the south; you even see kids shooting rifles and stuff at young ages (for example, 8). I don't know how I feel about that. Makes me kind of worried because even adults can make a mistake with a gun, so a kid? Even more so..
My dad had a gun, but he never had to use it. I don't think my boyfriend ever had to use his either.
We have the right to bear arms, but I feel it was taken to an extreme.
I wish we didn't get quite as obsessed with having guns in the US, but now it's way too late to do much about it. Literally anyone can have a gun, and you can easily pick them up illegally; I've watched documentaries on this, and it is frightening. Even if we added more rules, requirements, background checks, mental screenings, anything... what difference will it really make? The guns are already out there in large quantities.

People kill people, whether it's knives, guns, or a car. The fact that there are irresponsible gun owners is unfortunate.
I am not against owning guns, but I am against the system that makes it easy for just anyone to get one.
In fact, I am quite familiar, and have shot, the M9, .40 Caliber, .45 Caliber, M4 Assault Rifle, and a shotgun.
People always say that we should ban guns. Why? Criminals will ALWAYS have them. Why take away the right to defend yourselves against these filthy creatures that get guns off of the streets, or steal them from the homes of other people.
It's always been a running joke between some friends and I that the only reason no one would invade America is because there's a gun in the hand of every citizen.
Be against the PROCESS that doesn't dig enough into the history of a potential gun owner. Be against the people that can't properly store guns.
I know plenty of people, and there are tons of them, that have owned guns responsibly. It's our Constitutional right to have them.

Pleased to see you here, I hoped you would join in.
I have concerns over them. My ex didn't deserve to die during my divorce, but had he pushed me a little more, I am not certain that I would not have shot him if he had shown me his gun, and he is that type.
Surely there are plenty of similar tales in america?
Also I am someone who likes to be in control, amd I am concerned that if I had a gun in my purse, I would feel in control.

It's not guns. I'm so tired of every shooting turning into some Liberal anti-gun rant.
People are nasty, and if someone wants to kill someone - they wouldn't need a gun.
Would accidental deaths maybe be cut back a little if we had no guns? Sure! Of course.
The only way I would even CONSIDER supporting an effort to get rid of guns was if there was a TOTAL sweep all across American to locate and take them from criminals as well. However, when America decides to get rid of the problem, we are lazy and only pass the bill. No one truly gets rid of anything. Too much money. Too much time.
I am not against owning guns either, but there are definitely too many people who legally were able to buy guns who should never be able to own one.
I know of a few mentally unstable people who own guns. Definitely scary.
We need something to change, that's all I know. It shouldn't be as easy to own a gun, and everyone should have to go through a lot of safety training and know how to properly store their guns. I hate hearing about kids getting their hands on guns and killing themselves or someone else. Too many irresponsible people owning guns!
In Canada, we have pretty strict gun control laws. An ex of mine used to have a collection of them. He needed to have them locked up in a safe at all times and he had to have the key to the safe on his person at all times. He needed a licences and when he bought guns off the internet or whatever he needed some paper or something. He would go to the shooting range a lot and when he would go the guns had to be in the trunk of his car and he could only go to and from the range.
My fiance is getting his gun license renewed and I had to sign a piece of paper stating that I am aware he is allowed to have guns in the house.
I know that Canadians have significantly lower gun-related crime, so I think these restrictions we have are working.
hi, years ago we wanted to buy a hand gun for our protection , and talked to some policemen and were told not to buy a hand gun but buy a pump action shotgun. no aiming just point and shoot, plus if someone breacks in your house and you pump that shotgun when you pump that shotgun everyone knows that sound and its a scary sound. but in the end we never bougtha gun and im happy we never did, becouse i hate guns and violance and really dont want to be part of the problem, anyway i would probely end up shooting myself,i was so clumsie and scared just holding it at fireing range . love stevie
Those stories are soooo sad, more so because we KNOW it's preventable. I hate hearing about gun owners being so irresponsible, especially those with children.
