The Vikings were the first people to discover America. Half a millennium before Christopher Columbus, Viking chief Leif Eriksson of Greenland landed on the Island of Newfoundland in the year 1,000 AD. The Vikings under Leif Eriksson settled Newfoundland as well as discovering and settling Labrador further north in Canada.

It makes me wonder really as, discounting convergent evolution as unlikely, wherever people first evolved there must have been some form of migration across the Atlantic to create the different races. It's not something I have looked into but people had to originate somewhere?

I usually hear Africa as the most likely starting point, but I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually find even older remains somewhere else one day.
I think the weirdest thing is the fungus on corn.. but apparently people are still eating that lol I've never seen it anywhere, but I'd try it just to see what it's like.

I've always been fascinated by Victorian Britain. The 1800's were a dark time. But a time I am very much interested in. The Victorians did a lot for us: their technology is used today and the scientists of that time gave knowledge we have today. It is all relevant.
I am hooked on everything to do with the American Civil War thanks to my dad. Whenever I have a chance i love the explore the battlefields, especially Gettysburg.
Lot's of Roman history around here plus Norman and English Civil War. As I have mentioned elsewhere though I am interested in history but perhaps WWII most of all. There is a lot of history of that around here as there are very many old wartime airfields. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with Spitfires, Hurricane, Lancaster and Dakota are not may miles away so it is not unusual to hear a Merlin engine when I am in the garden. I do sometimes get a bit jelous when I see a pilot enjoying a test flight with a few maneuvers.
