We had some lovely golden plums at our old house, so we brought seeds with us, and followed all the advice, but so far none have germinated.
That's a pity. With seeds a plant may have different characteristics than the original though (like a child) as it depends on the parents. The best way would maybe have been to take cuttings. I presume that is too late now?
All this talk is tempting me lol. I have just looked at citrus tree growing here in the UK. It's a bit borderline with winter temperatures, and my cold greenhouse, but maybe an option for growing in a container in the garden during the summer and bringing it into the greenhouse for the winter; Starting off in the house this winter. I wonder about cold hardier varieties or maybe just to plant a few pips and see what happens (that is where my apple tree came from as my stepson planted a pip when he was little). Not tangerines though as they appear to prefer warmer climes, as do limes. I think I'll give it a go!
My friend up north does exactly that, she brings it out for the summer and back inside for the winter.
I ordered my seeds for next year and received them yesterday. I plan to grow some hotter peppers, although fairly mild, next year and have got some tomato seeds. All cherry tomatoes and smaller (grape size). I have some purple tomatillos and, the main part of ordering early, broad beans and peas for sowing before Christmas.
Yesterday I cleared out the greenhouse a bit. As I was doing this I saw what I thought to be a False Black Widow scurrying away. They are not particularly dangerous but they have caused panic here www.thesun.co.uk/news/16170311/school-evacuated-false-widow-spider-spotted-pupils-home/ . I have seen one or two around in the past but they live their lives

Oh... update on our redbud. Remember how I was waiting until spring to see if it survived... well, it actually started to grow new leaves randomly within the last week or two??? lol so odd! So, it's definitely a fighter. We'll see how it does come spring!
It definitely does. I can remember as a student playing with food and food dyes. Blue potatoes, were the weirdest...
I am sure you are right. Not just taste is involved with how we "taste" things. Sight and smell also contribute to it.
Even more than that. On a walk out in the wilds one dark night years ago a friend gave me a piece of chocolate of a brand I normally love. As I put it into my mouth he said that the chocolate was a brand I couldn't stand. I instantly tasted it and threw up. I just could not get rid of the taste all night even though it was only moments after I put it into my mouth that my friend told me the truth.

I saved a snail's life yesterday. I don't know how the snail got that far, but it was in the middle of the road. I was worried it'd be squished, so I picked it up, held onto it and put it in my dad's front garden. I just could not allow the snail to be crushed underneath a car. But how it got so far on the road without being crushed before I arrived, I do not know.

I rescued a baby owl likewise. I had to stop the traffic. It was sat on the white line.
We got another teddy bear magnolia to place on the opposite side of the one we planted a couple years back now. We will be digging the hole this weekend, but hopefully it won't be too much work so we can finish before the workweek. I don't have much time for gardening during the week these days!
We had this empty spot for about a year now lol the neighbors probably hated it. We removed a different tree that would have gotten extremely tall, and one that doesn't technically live as long, so we figured we'd just go ahead and plant something sturdier and not as large near the house. This is a smaller variety of magnolia.

That is on my list of presents to get for Andrea... Such powerful flowering

I love trees, the woods, the rainforests, parks and nature in general.
I went walking in the woods in Sweden as a child: it was a wonderful time. The Swedish woods are amazing. I also loved riding my bike in the vast expanse parks of my old town. I loved those parks and cycle tracks. Such nostalgia.
I need to get out and y=take some pictures of my bananas and papayas. They have never done better and I am going to have way more than I can possible use.
I went into the greenhouse this morning and saw that my radishes have germinated. It's late in the year but I am going for year round greenhouse utilisation. I am a happy bunny with todays discovery
We might get started on a flower garden in the backyard this weekend. It's a random seed mix, which is always fun. The instructions say to plant in fall... we'll have to cover them over the winter so the frost doesn't kill them, though.

I don't know about flowers particularly but some seeds actually require a period of very cold weather to germinate well. Thats what happens in nature with some things.

Yeah, I think these are some of those! But can't get toooo cold. Well, the cover is also to keep the birds from eating them xD They go to town on any seeds we try to plant.
