I think robots are going to have a profound affect on the workforce in the near future. Not necessarily the humanoid variety depicted in Scifi films either. But I think in all walks of life such as manufacturing, food service, delivery, finance, legal and more. I might prefer talking to a robotic kiosk than a human lawyer.
Being married to a white male, I do wonder. Men will need something. The "living wage" in my opinion anyway isn't going to keep them out of trouble, not for long anyway.

We used to spend a lot of time in the hospital discussing the cost of a pharmacy robot, against the cost and difficulty of employing more pharmacists.
That was until someone spoiled everything with "What does this robot look like?"
The pharmacy manager said "Think less Star Wars, and more coffee dispenser."
THe discussions were never so much fun after that.

I guess they will have to take jobs fixing and building the robots at first.. until the robots take that over, too lol

So true Heather, robots might eliminate some jobs but will definitely create more jobs too.

We have Sophia the robot now. And we have robots making deliveries.
Robots don't have to be humanoid: they can look like basic machines. And robots have helped the workforce. When programmed correctly, robots save human effort and do dangerous work. Robots - I think - have saved the workforce from work that is potentially highly dangerous.
I have no doubt robots will come up and up in the world. They already are making their mark. The workforce could not function without its robots. Its machines.
I think that robots come in so many forms. A lot of those, even early, episodes of "Star Trek" did not get it too wrong. Computers are so tied in with robotics that some things can be difficult to imagine. Yes the robot that looks like "Robbie" or even a one arm type that puts bits on a car. Have you ever though though that a computer controlling say traffic lights in a city and perhaps railway crossing gates. That system could be considered robotic. Even an automated house which opens the gates when you get to the end of the drive, recognises you at the door and unlocks it then turns the lights on when you enter, having already turned on the heating as your car signalled that you had left the office and were heading home. Another robotic system and technically very possible, even today. Definitions confuse me but things are so inter-linked. When does a complex control system become a robot? When it interfaces to the physical world? You maybe get my meaning.

We are letting the genie out of the bottle!
Maybe a better choice than Pandora's box.
We have to be optimistic otherwise we maybe wouldn't dare get out of bed lol

True. Although, robots taking over the world is not at the top of my list for reasons not to get out of bed lol there are more pressing issues at present, but that sure wouldn't make anything better! ;p I hope if they do take over that they are better and kinder humans than us.

You still haven't read I Robot, have you? lol
I must give that a re-read sometime. It used to be one of my favourite books

I never will. I saw the movie with that name, though lol like most robot movies.. robots are bad. I take it most people do not want to watch a robot movie where they take over and do nice things?? xD Not enough action in that.

Not like you to judge too early, and get it so wrong.

But I won't spoil the ending for anyone else.
I judged the movie I watched, not the book ;p I don't actually read science fiction books usually, but I'll watch movies/tv shows about them.
I don't know whether it was a setup or not but, in glancing elsewhere this morning, I saw a picture of a sleeping woman with her hair caught up by one of those vacuum cleaning robots. It does make me think as, although not having one myself, I do wonder about how good the sensors are when they come across something like a sleeping person or pet. We all know how easy it is to get an unwanted item sucked up the hoover.

That would be scary. I feel like it's more about size of objects or detecting movement even, so hair just lying on the floor (although attached ;p) would probably not register as anything but a mess. How many animal tails get sucked up in there then?? If they are sleeping and not running away from it..

From dogs I remember I would pity the cleaner as dogs often seem to hate them. I cannot imagine cats liking them either. I do wonder about those that mow lawns though. Probably most people just carry on regardless but I sometimes lose count of the number of times I move ladybirds as I am mowing the lawn. Lawn mowing robots wouldn't. I presume most sunbathers would soon get out of the way with the robot about but a dose in the sun after a glass of wine on a summer's day could be an invite into A&E.
