It is relatively easy and inexpensive to automate 90% of the steps. Its the last 10% that is difficult and most costly.

Nope, the baked on ones never come out clean, which is why we rinse! You basically have to rewash them after they are done if you don't rinse them first.. either way, we are stuck with washing them twice!! lol

My current dishwasher is slightly better than the one I had at our apartment, but still not good enough to never rinse off my dishes first.

Well I saw a story a while back where they are trying to design robots that can be companions for people who are shut in or lonely I believe. They're trying to fix it so they can converse with them. I can only imagine how much that would cost.

I don't use soap.. and sometimes not hot water either, so there are still benefits from using the dishwasher. It can sterilize dishes better than I without burning my flesh off ;p

I don't have to scrub every single dish, though. Just the worst of them. The larger pans and such I do end up hand-washing entirely due to this if I already am putting in effort to get rid of all the gunk.

Others I just do a quick rinse off to put in the dishwasher. If I let the pans sit with water and soap for a day or so, then I might just pop them in the dishwasher afterward to fill in some empty spots before turning it on lol
