I've been on a boat in Lanzarote but never dared go into the water. A lot of the passengers did, but I can't swim. However, the water was turquoise and utterly gorgeous. We saw the turtles, too. I'll always remember that trip.
I've been to Greece and Spain, too. Summer in those countries are beautiful. I do wish I could swim, though!

You can snorkel in 12 inches of water. You just lie face down, and crawl. The wildlife you see is amazing, and I am only talking about the west coast of scotland.

It's not ready that difficult, do you have amy swim school near where you are? One-two weeks, that's all it takes.

There are two ways to swim, and one is easy peasy lemon squeezy.
There is the elegant way, and then there is the inelegant doggy paddle.
Guess which is the easy one.
Once you have learned the doggy paddle, you have confidence that you will not drown, so then you can learn the other strokes.
So meanwhile, forget the other strokes and try the doggy paddle. Most people can do that, they are just put of the idea by others.

Do you know that Paris does not allow cars older than 2000 on the city street?
Is that all of Paris, or like London, just the centre?
I had a vision yesterday in which I saw a national network of trains devoted to ferry of cars such that, for a reasonably cheap fare, you could drive onto a flatcar then travel in a carriage at the end. The idea of this being long journeys like London to Glasgow in a car could be avoided, just local car travel at each end. I would imagine I am not the first with that idea. Are there any examples of a commercial system in the US or Canada? With you longer distances it sounds sensible.

It works or the channel tunnel.
Thank you, yes I forgot. I have never been through the tunnel.

Research by Dutch naturalists have shown that the eggs of the godwit are still showing traces of the outlawed pesticide DDT.
I think this just goes to show that even if we stopped using microplastics today right now all of us the effects would go on for decades. That does not mean to say that I use them or would advise anybody else to ignore the advice to do do all they can to stop the use of microplastics.
The thing about classic cars here, over a certain age, is that they are tax exempt. I know some people run them partly because of this. It means that, like Cuba maybe, some will be run until they fall apart. They still need the MoT test yearly but I think that certain tests are less stringent. Emissions for one!
Believe it or not here in Florida there are no emissions test on vehicles and not even an inspection. You see some pretty bad cars on the road for sure.
Oh wow ..here emissions tests are done each year at the periodic test. In Germany you have a windshield sticker indicating how clean your car is they are colour coded.. mine is a green 4 the best for a petrol car. That means I can drive in cities cars with worse ratings cant drive into cities ...

I think all the other states here have some kind of inspections but there is no restrictions on where we can drive.
I do wonder how things go in some of these more sparsly populated areas, as some state areas in the US and Canada are or Austrailia. It could well be impractical to take a vehicle tens of miles for a test. I suspect that in Western Europe, being so populated, it is more practical and even essential.

To give you an example. I have a friend that lives in Wyoming and the next town is 65 miles away.
I wish everywhere would be equally strict about emissions.. some cars sttiiiinkkk. Can't even drive with the windows down or go for a walk in the neighborhood at times because people have these dark, smelly clouds coming out of their vehicles. Nobody should have to breathe that in!
