Today, through ebay, I sold a spare caravan/trailer jockey wheel. They are about £11 new. I got £1 for it.
Which is good news to me. I didn't want it, but I didn't want to throw it away either.
Now one less will need to be produced.
We must recycle as much as we can.
I passed on one of my old art books I no longer have space for yesterday. It's something which happens regularly but it's just a way of life. I wouldn't know about ebay though as I have never sold anything on there. Some people have friends who handle their ebay sales. That's what I need, or perhaps more usefully someone who could handle my occasional sales for a commission.

If stuff isn't worth much. I rend to put it into charity shops, but stuff like trailer wheels are going to clog up charity shops. I have tried freecycle, but so many timewasters. It's easier to stick it on ebay for a £1.
Im posting here because it sort of ties into the post on the news thread but its a lot of my pondering, so.. The whole Just stop oil thing.
Stonehenge, why? What did stonehenge have to do with oil? Are they about to reveal that the ancient stone masons actually worked with diesel oil generators and cranes to get the stone into place? No, it was simply that doing this at the time of the summer solstice they knew they would get most media attention.. Hopefully they will also get the wrath of the druids where your bad deed is returned three fold...
I suppose with this group is the just in their title that irks me the most because there is no just about it. We as a civilisation cannot just stop using oil. Our whole society our survival is based on using oil so to just stop isnt an option. But as Cherry said 2030 could be seen as a start point. A serious place to start the withdrawal of our dependancy on oil.
However yesterday I heard on the news that worldwide the sales of EV dropped last month by 12% in indivdual countries its higher or lower but on the whole 12%, quiet apart from costs because the average man on a basic wage simply cant afford on of these vehicles the main cause was concern for charging capability. More and more people are hearing that their electricity network is now at its maximum so they know that having an EV is a risk. Theres a good chance that they wont be able to charge when they want or near their homes . In NL we have a good charging network but Ive seen the queues at public charging stations and its not funny.
Imgine trying to harvet crops with a E-combine harvester. Or transport food across the ocean on an E-frieghter , the very first of these ships the only one was launched in Norway in 2021... Its going to be a long while to replace all the worlds cargo ships ..
But then we havent even touched on how much lithium will be needed or where thats going to come from because there is a very limited supply and getting it out of the ground is nasty and dangerous and can cause catastrophic environmental damage if it goes wrong.
So what can we do? Well maybe stop using oil slowly, begin with things we dont need, motor sports, air displays, huge gas guzzeling cars, the 5 litre engines that use huge amounts of fuel wont get you there quicker because the speed limit wont allow it. We could limit cars to a smaller engine or a set amount of miles each year..
Then there are the constant holidays in the sun people jetting off left right and centre at a drop of a hat, Limit flights to 2 return flights per year per person, so you can go once on holiday and once for an emergancy a bit like the old days oh and no saving up what you dont use.. after that we an start on things like make up , a throw away fashion, and synthetic fabrics, the vegans wont like that because vegan leather etc is oil based !
I think just do something is better than just do nothing but to say just stop using oil is daft it has to be a gradual process and we can all play a part in it but we all need to realise that we are all going to have to make sacrifices if its going to work..
There thats myopinion and I do hope this one didnt offend
I can't deny that some of those suggestions really wouldn't suit me, but I know this new survivable world we want to create will not be painless, and I will just have to swallow those pills.

Not in the least! Very sensible. There are lots of things people can do but they seem to like to just jump on one thing rather than build up a mindset of small adjustments which will achieve the same results without making waves.

Youre right, it reminds me of people who go on those crazy crash diets suddenly they don't eat anything processed, anything white ,or anything with carbohydrate they are bound for failure because it's just not sustainable, in a similar way banning everything made of oil and everything that runs on oil and everything to do with oil is just not reachable or sustainable but if we diet by making small adjustments we will attain our target weight and if we start weaning ourselves off oil gently we will also attain that target

No & I don't think they ever will. I don't think they have any plans to even try because even the electric cars will not stop it. This was on Google AI search:
"The manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs) can have environmental impacts, but some say that EVs are still better for the climate than gasoline-powered cars over their lifetime: Battery production Mining and processing minerals for EV batteries can have a significant carbon footprint. Lithium, a key component in batteries, is mined using processes that require large amounts of water and emit carbon dioxide. These processes can harm local communities, contribute to deforestation, and lead to biodiversity loss. EV manufacturing is also about 50% more water intensive than traditional internal combustion engines. Rare earth deposits Deposits of rare earths, which are often concentrated in China, can contain radioactive substances that can emit radioactive water and dust."
And from what I've seen, Trump has no intentions of bothering with the climate change stuff. I think we're all just screwed. JMO
Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what.

People are who they are. Most of them don't care about the environment and I'm sure the others just flat don't believe it. People think everything is fake now after that whole pandemic thing. The first time the earth was wiped out was by water. I have a bad feeling this time may be by fire. People are stupid and don't listen and heed warnings.
