That is shocking... And when it comes to setting an example while we are all cutting back who on earth needs 43 Christmas trees and 79000 lights....
I'll give you a clue in case you don't know,,, he lives in a big white house in Washington DC.
That's really not good but I think people are not really thinking at all. Even locally to me they are having their usual competition to see who has the best lights in their garden. It's often for charity but these are not home made things from surplus. They are plastic, probably all from China so their environmental impact would likely wipe out their families lessening footprint for the whole year. I bet that they don't even consider it
Just to add - The best Christmas garden decoration I have seen yet is a Christmas hat on a small wooden dog made from logs. It was cute
Another van was crushed today because the owners were suspected of fly tipping.
WTF!!
If you are going to confiscate vans sell them. Don't add them to the rubbish.
When is this stupid practice going to stop?
The problem is corruption. From what I understand cars that are confiscated through the driver having no insurance have been moved on because the driver has not sorted things and paid. In many cases where the vehicle is quite good there has been internal recipients in the transport firms and other involved individuals. This does mean cut price cars for them.

It's for flytipping that the vans are crushed. It's a standard procedure.
Some scientists are now saying they were mistaken in the estimate of global warming and Environment change and that things are progressing much quicker.
What I can say from my morning walks is that in the past couple of years we have noticed a steep decline in birdsong where we would have 40 or more swans on the lake there are now 1 or 2 at best, egrets that were so common I gave up photographing them are now a rarity, recently we walked a whole nature reserve and didn't see a single one. The blue throat was totally missing this year ear I've heard very little from the bitterns the Hawks are declining in number even small Birds like goldfinches bluetits starlings sparrows warblers are all more of a rarity than a common place.
I think you notice it more depending on where you live. Where I am there has been no noticeable change but that doesn't mean there hasn't been. I am sure there are things that I just don't notice Maybe it is because Florida is a huge peninsular and pretty much surrounded by water. Maybe I will start looking closer while I am out.

Yeah, Florida is already hot, so a lot of things living there are already adapted to that type of weather maybe.
I do remember when I lived there that we stopped getting large groups of yearly dragonflies over time... we had them every year as kids.. and we'd chase them around. They stopped coming at all over time... and I take that as a bad sign. I read the males lose their color to attract mates due to global warming. I know pesticides don't help either..

That's awful. It seems the bird population in the uk remains constant. That is brilliant news.

Over here in Britain, people - in general - take great care of their birds. People often use bird feeders in their gardens, for example. Bird conservation is every important here, too. Plus, other wildlife are also starting to be cared for and helped to extend by people all over Britain.

I haven't seen a drop in numbers and in fact it seems there were more than ever. I will have to pay more attentuin in the future. Oh, the love bugs are starting their autumn return. Their numbers never drop.

You live near water, so maybe you wouldn't notice so much for dragonflies, but in some areas where they used to be.... poof!

Thats definitely not a good sign. You are right though, I have water everywhere around me.
I need to look closely at where I should plant what. The plant by my front door attracts butterflies like crazy, I now avoid going in and out of the house by that door.
We get them in our back garden. They play around the ponds.
We keep having at least one dragonfly that flies back and forth in front of our house. Every year there is one doing that, and I have no idea what it's doing lol the water is in the backyard! I hope they are eating the mosquitoes.
