Well, I've already bought a hybrid, and I've elected to go 100% solar from our utility company. I'll look into a solar roof for my next home, if it isn't too cost prohibitive. By then, prices should have gone down. Maybe look at geothermal energy as well.
We started years ago. Our gas boiler is as clean as we could find, the house in insulated where possible, weve changed every light bulb in our house for energy efficent LED's now I can have every light and table lamp running and still not burn over 75wts ( not that we do that) I have an induction hob and an instant pot and often cook batches of food so that I dont constanly have the cooker on for long periods of time.
We recycle and upcycle, we donate rather than throwing away things that could be re-used. We buy as much of our produce from our own or neighbouring countries as possible. Cheese and milk is Dutch most fruits and veg are Dutch, our chicken is Dutch, our beef German. This way they have as few airmiles on them as possible... Most meat subsitutes sound great but have a lot of airmiles on them so they are not as green as they make out. We also eat a lot less meat than we used to.
Our car is now a peugoet 2008 it has a 3 cylinder 1.2 engine and still cruises fully loaded at 70mph without any trouble.. No need for a huge gas guzzeler.
We try to make combi journeys so that we dont travel more than we have to.
When we move I daresay we will downsize and try even more ways to save money and energy.
If anyone is serious about doing one thing to help the environment.
If you each could make a positive change that would help its this.
Give up fireworks.
The heavy metals and chemicals used to give us those bangs and pretty colours are poison. They settle in rivers and the soil they dont fade like the pretty colours, they stay there doing harm.
Then there are the more obvious damages to people with conditions like COPD, after any event with fireworks the fine particles in the air increase sometimes to dangerous levels for anyone with reduced lung capacity or heart conditions.
They cause trauma to veterens and people with PTSD. I once witnessed this first hand.
A local town has a yearly festival with funfair etc and the closing event is fireworks. Some charity workers had a group of refugees with them and were showing them the festival among them a boy of about 7, he was smiling from ear to ear and loving it all until the first bang and flash then his eyes almost popped out of his head and his body started to shake, his fear was obvious and distresssing to see. As the fireworks continued he became paralyzed by fright and had to be carried away.
They cause damage to property.
They cause damage to pets and wildlife. Each year there are terrible stories of horses so scared the lacerate themselves on barbed wire fences , sheep that drown running blindly into rivers and this weekend a beautiful dog called Lara-Beau died. She had been rescued from Spain where she suffered such abuse that her leg was amptuated. But she had been saved and adopted. Her owner had done all she could with pills and calm music thundershirts and calming noise but a random firework scared her so much she jumped from an upstairs window and ran headlong onto a motorway where she was hit by a car and left at the side of the road like rubbish.
If anyone wants to do one thing that would save all this misery , all this suffering, all this pollution in one go.. Just stop using fireworks.

I didn't include light bulbs and such in my original reply. I replaced them years ago, and I've forgotten about them. Last year, we replaced an old ceiling fan in the bedroom with an integrated, dimmable, LED fixture. My other fixtures use regular bulbs which I've replaced with CFLs. The bulbs are pretty old, and I'm looking to replace those bulbs/fixtures with LEDs as well. I've also forgotten that I have a rain sensor for the sprinkler system we installed in '95...way before the utility company was offering rebates. The first thing I bought for this house in 1992 was a programmable thermostat. I've since had the furnace replaced and added air conditioning (EnergyStar rated, of course) which also came with a new programmable thermostat. I've replaced the water heater twice, each one more efficient than the last (to be expected). It was last replaced in 2003, so that will be due pretty soon. I'm sure any water heater sold today will be more efficient than the 18 year-old one I have now. I've also replaced both toilets with low-flow devices, but will probably replace those with even more efficient fixtures when I have the bathrooms remodeled.
We have double flush systems here too. Another thing that I am aware of is that some cistern internals can be adjusted for diferent flush amounts. I think that it is a plug of some sort on the works.
Our bulbs are low energy and I am steadily changing them to LED as they fail. One thing that I find though is the low light level. I tend to buy high light output bulbs but they are still better than the old tungsten or halogen.
We switched all the lights to LED in this house once we moved in. Our energy company offers a certain amount for free... but we have since been upgrading them to ones with more functionality.
Jeff is a dick for sure... nearly $10 for delivery services at Whole Foods now when I am already paying like $130 for Amazon Prime... which usually comes with free delivery. Ahole!
Actually I think if we are serious about climate change a travel should be limited, not just aprice increase which mean the rich can carry on doing what the hell they like but limited each person has a maximum of two return tickets per year.

Normally, we would have had our first good snowstorm in the first half of October. Walking in to work on 10/26, a few cars in the parking lot sported evidence of a snowstorm, but the roads were bone dry when I set off to work. I looked up on the Peak, and it was white for the first time this season. Due to high winds, it was short-lived. Today, I took a picture of the Peak from the parking lot of my doc's building, and one can still see traces of that snowstorm. Normally, "Old Baldy" would be white by now.

I honestly believe we are wasting effort by trying to lessen our impact on the planet by cutting back. There is just not the desire to support the plan by doing without.
Progress will only really be made by new ideas that make it easy to be greener.

Sad, but true.
( my bold) Or very draconian ones.
We see this with the whole pandemic thing simply asking people to respect others or not to gather or to wear a face mask hasnt helped only when its law and people are at risk of fines or prison does it make a real impact.
So what could be introduced to help matters first cut the population. No saving the unsaveable you know what I mean; heart transplant at 76 ? no
Saving that baby born at 21 weeks ..Keeping someone alive when they have no chance at recovery no..
One child rule for everyone.
Housing to suit the family not the pocket
A gradual stop on luxury items we dont need make up or jewellery, the fashion industry would need to stop its nonsense too, cars ; you can have any car you like but none of them have an engine bigger than 1000cc or they have to be methene/ renewable energy.
Max two return flights per year no matter who you are.
Stop all the overeating too. fast foods/ junk food and sweets are not a necessary foodstuff.
Anyone found breaking the rules is punished by some awful prison sentence of hard labour .
No pets they eat too much and give nothing back.
Now if anyone read that and thought it was ok.... Youre lying, we all gasp at such ideas and it would bring war on our heads but these are the kind of rules that get to the heart of many of our problems of overpopulation starvation and lack of resources.. By cutting out all but the essentials we could achive the COP goals. But who wants to live like that? I dont.

Not at all. I think those are all perfectly valid.
But of course, I would not have to conform. I have an exemption certificate.
I qualify on the grounds of selfishness.
But it does make you think "How often do I agree with the conservation plans when it suits me just fine?"

The rise of a new communist state
I do believe that the population needs control in some way though. It's doing it in a caring way that is the difficult thing but obviously the leaders seem oblivious to the fact anyway. Many have large families.

Exactly and the C word is a dirty one that none of us like.
Not only that but lets face it no country is going to be stepping forward on their own and saying we will do this.. And we all know world leaders cant agree on the time of day let alone anything more complex so its not going to happen.
