My dad has a garage full of equipment and DIY items and the suchlike: and they often come in useful. Those items are NOT clutter and are necessary for the running of a household. My dad does keep them organized, though: so he knows where everything is.
Does he manage to get his car into the garage too? I ask that as I have noticed that the majority of people here now seem to use their garage for storage, the tumble dryer and / or freezer rather than parking their car overnight. Even my son's garage had been converted into another room for the house (before they bought it).
The main reason for our garage was to have somewhere to put the car and know that we could go out to it on a freezing cold morning and know it would start without problem. I have always made certain it would fit, no matter how much was also in. I know cars are more reliable these days but I still find it better to be in the garage overnight.
Actually, there used to be a gadget that you could fit to your car. It was plugged into the mains, and it kept your engine water warm over night. Not only did your car start first turn, but you used no choke, and the heater was warm immediately.

I can't believe how messy the house looks, we only got back 48 hours ago.
After coming back from travel, I often find my apartment looks almost alien. Whereas it looks normal when I am here all the time. And you do notice clutter and mess after returning from travel. Maybe you could clear away - and throw away - the clutter and mess. You don't need it: ask yourself if you'd miss said-items if there was a fire. If you'd not miss them, then you are able to throw them away.

It sounded great.
Nowadays it is called the charger
I do seem to remember little paraffin heaters that could be placed under the sump overnight too.

Next time the occupational therapist is here to work with the middle guy, I can leave some cleaning for them to deal with as part of their work together on planning, doing a task, problem solving, etc. Love it! Make a mama happy saying you'll help her boy clean!

Last night I cleaned my food cupboard: I took everything out/sprayed inside the cupboards with a kitchen cleaner/dried the cupboards/used a lazy susan to hold my tins/and just re-organised everything.
This morning I took out the rubbish & recycling. I also put on a quick load of laundry and keep on top of the washing up.
It's getting toward the time of year when the laundry takes days to dry. Especially as the heating is not on yet. There are some advantages to a tumble drier but I get by without.
I don't have a dishwasher but keep on to of the washing up as I make it so it never stacks up. It's one thing I am pretty obsessive about as I find dirty pots attract flies and dried grime is harder to clean off.

I have a drying rack tucked away just in case my dryer breaks down. I'd say I'm spoiled being able to dry indoors! Today the machine is getting a break, but we'll be back at the usual cycle of laundry soon.
I decided a dishwasher wasn't worth the money because it doesn't usually take long to clean up if we keep on it. That's also not happening today, but I'll have a sink full of hot, soapy water going and chip away at things as soon as I can.
The reason for being behind on these cleaning tasks today is not being out and about or even busy indoors with other things... We've had a water main break in our neighbourhood! Going on 24 hours without running water is showing me how we take it for granted.

I liked washing the dishes, but I would miss my dishwasher, now that I have got used to it.
I wash the dishes daily. In fact, I've been washing the dishes since being a teenager. I cleaned all the dishes after dinner during my school years. And I never stopped.
Washing up - and doing the laundry - is very important to me. It makes me feel I am making my home clean & tidy.

I still wash and dry the dishes with my dad: he doesn't own a dishwasher. It is a way to bond and I agree sometimes technology takes that bonding away.

I am so used to doing it that I sometimes even automatically join in when I visit people.
One task I have with our art group is to keep the refreshment box. At our meetings I make the tea and coffee and serve up the biscuits. Occasionally one of the other women does clear and wash the cups, but I have often done it before she realises although she always offers.
