Not exactly covid but related and yet just a at stupid people.
Every year I take an elderly French man to the town hall get a proof of life certificate in order to ensure his French pension still gets paid. This year I thought I had better check if we needed an appointment because of covid regulations.. So I phoned and was told that he would have to do it digitally..Firstly he is 88 and has no clue how to even switch on a pc let alone use one.. So the woman on the switchboard said I should do it for him which as I pointed out breaks his right to privacy and if they send this certificate back to me it breaks data protection laws… Plus it seemed to me to be evident that is someone requires a proof of life cetificate the issuing officer should see the applicant in person to be able to say without any degree of doubt that the person in question is actually alive..
But not the ditz on the switchboard she insisted that we do this digitally..
So I sent all the forms via email..I also added that I thought it was daft and was causing Mr J a great deal of distress.
Today Ive had a call from the officer who issues the certificate, he confirmed that of course in order to confirm that Mr J is alive he will need to see Mr J with his own eyes so we now have an appointment for next week Wednesday. He apologised for the person on the switchboard and said he will be passing on this information just in case they are still confused and he asked me to pass on his sincere apologies to Mr J for causing him any distress..
I will go to MrJ this afternoon and give him the good news. He was so worried because without the form he wont get his pension and without his French pension he cannot pay his bills, poor man.
These are the people that lockdown is really hitting hard, they are not just missing friends they are missing so much more and if I hadnt been there to sort this Mr J would have lost a big chunk of his pension. Its all very well going digital but we have to rememeber that not everyone is familiar with the digital world and not everything can be done via the email.
To the woman on the switchboard. Duh!!!! Thankfully someone knew what they were doing and the problem is resolved. It seems you knew more about what has to be done than one of their employees.

They haven't got a clue. A few years ago they were going to stop cheques on the principle that "Nowadays, everyone has access to the internet!"
Oh no, I was laughing at the part that Kim Kardashian called 911 in Paris, I can't believe how dumb the woman is
Actually although I agree she is a total fool, its shock that causes us to go into a brain freeze...
I had two women come into the bakers I managed and tried to rob and beat me... I first tried to dial 0611 (old police number) even though the number has been 112 for a long while..
However when I realised they were going to try to beat me I exited the shop and locked them in, running next door for help then when they fled the scene I noted their car number and police arrested them as they arrived home! (empty handed)

What is going on ? Is it just here that since the whole lockdown thing traffic is like the wild west . People seem to pick and choose what rules they obey..
As we pulled up to a red light today I happened to look in the rear view mirror and saw a 40ton lorry headed into my rear end. I pulled forward and to my right and he swerved left and went straight through the red light. Luckily there was no other traffic crossing the junction or someone would have died...

This is so seriously disappointing. Always looked up to his dialogue style and the way he wove stories. At least stuff like this is coming out though and everyone is being supportive.
