I'm grateful for one more piece of cream pie in the fridge from a large family dinner on Sunday. Don't tell my kiddos I'm snatching that piece all for myself... (Usually we divide the last bits so it's all fair!)

I think it is good for kids to see that sometimes, parents do put themselves first.
I am so, so...very grateful that my kids left Taiwan before that earthquake happened. They are in Japan now while some of their friends are stuck in Taiwan.
I must say, that since we moved to here in yorkshire, we have been very impressed at the level of friendliness, and helpfulness of local shop workers.
Maybe it's one of these things that you get in small towns. This is the first time I have lived in a small town. Other than this, I have done villages, large towns and cities, and while shop workers were always ok. Here, they are lovely.
Used to Id say. Independants still do, but I went into a large electrical store to look for an sd card for my new outdoor security camera and a couple of USB flash drives for a project .. Three men were mucking about with a video game system and two others were busy talking about one of their new car.. All wearing the store uniform not one of them willing to help. So I walked out, ordered online and I daresay got it cheaper than instore.

Generally I have found them quite good everywhere but I think it's some of the places in which they try to push them too hard, or employ staff who just want a job, where the problems come. It may be more expensive but our normal supermarkets like Sainsbury or Asda tend to be very good. On the other hand I've found staff in places like Lidl can be pretty poor with negative attitudes.
I haven't really found a difference between cities, towns and villages as regards friendliness. I think that it is more communications and being relaxed in the setting. With the stress of modern life and working conditions it is maybe putting more a strain on that though. That said, the area of the country I live in is pretty quiet and I know it fairly well. With work I travelled in places from the middle of nowhere and into cities so I didn't feel too unfamiliar with either. I'm not really a city girl though

I like cities. Far more parks and green areas than towns, and so much more culture, and entertainment. When I was a student in Glasgow, there were four pubs within about a 100 yards that I used to frequent, as they all had free live bands, and the drinks weren't too expensive.
