I love forums (G)

Depends on what I'm doing.

For just random socializing, then I do like forums. Not having to all be online at the same time to chat is nice lol

Forums are good in that they are far better policed that social media so generally safer. There are uses for all though.

I love forums, too. I first encountered them with iVillage.com, which was an online community for women with boards for everything under the sun! I hosted/co-hosted a couple, and was on a couple more. Eventually my mums group moved to Facebook, but I only have a few of the ladies as friends because things went south when I got in on the political discussions in 2016/early 2017. Ooh boy, they turned nasty! Apparently Canadians aren't allowed to have opinions on US politics - or so they say. Oy.

Anyway... I like that forums allow me to come and go no matter what timezone I'm in, and have interesting conversations with people I haven't met in person, especially since I live in a smaller city (less than 10K pop for the city limits). Good to have global friends if you're feeling that you live in the sticks!

I use Facebook, but mostly because I gotta to connect with some groups. Unfortunately, there's a lot of nastiness that pops up there when folks don't remember that there are actual people on the other end of those usernames. Or they have a lot of bad days and bring their grumpies online...

Some just tend to lose some of their inhibitions though. That's when the troubles start.

Discord has sadly started to consume the most of my online time (which there is too much of honestly, but is how I socialize so I'm stuck with it). I remember the days when message boards were commonplace and it was honestly better than the dripple you read on a regular basis from people on Facebook or Twitter. Plus security was never a risk when you had moderators who actually cared and people used some form of common sense as to not give out personal information over the internet. Discord is still needed as a real time chat platform though, but then again, that was what chat rooms provided that message boards could not. I would love nothing more for a return to the days of message boards and chat rooms, but sadly, with big Meta trying to rule cyberspace like a Galactic Empire. It looks like that is never going to happen.

lazy , I used discord a little but our guys (recovery stuff) didn't really talk much and when we wanted to call, it seems that no one wanted to talk there either. I just gave up my discord, I still have premium for a few more months but I am not going to use it. I have bad experiences on discord too, mainly my fault. I wish I had like minecraft/discord friends, but that didn't work, the closest I got was playing Fornite with people but we used the voice chat and discord was just extra. mmmmm. I love the discord emoji characters. I think it's nice. I don't have anyone I talk to much. honestly, forums here are most of my online interactions. I have reddit, dont' really use it, I have a new twitter and only follow on person and it's not even a person but a company. mmmmm. that's it. I like this forum a lot and forums like this. It's nice to know what you saying though. I'm glad you can have discord friends. My son apparently uses it all the time. Good for you
