Thanks Tiney, for sharing. Is there a class you can take for comic art? Writing, music and painting are also my hobbies, I just have not had enough time to work on them that much.
No problem 😊
Not in person, nah. The truly best instructional is the DC Comics Guide to Drawing and Writing Comics. I learned how to write comic book script very well, but didn't naturally take to the drawings. I gravitate to other things, might revisit comic book style, but I am evolving my art style lately it seems. I noticed tonight while I was using ink over a vague pencil sketch.
As the song says, too much time on my hands...
What sort of things do you write/paint? Jealous of music. I tried guitar and it was too much for me (bass guitar I was intermediate good a while back). What do you play?
Nothing in particular, I wrote 500 word articles when I was in college for Cosmopolitan for pocket money, then I wrote short stories & children books with friends. A few years ago, I published my own book on Kindle, I have been writing a women story book but only up to page 86 now. Nowadays, I mostly write manual, procedure, compliance book. Same thing with paint and music, I wrote music for my own wedding procession, my first dance.. I painted mural in my former home office or houses on Burano islands when I visited Venice. So not discipline there. I play piano and violin, mostly classical.
Welcome, Tiney! So nice of you to join us Look forward to getting to know you better and seeing some of your art!
Glad to be had here best forum I've seen since like...the early 2000's. I miss the way forums used to be and tight knit communities. I'll definitely hop on at least once a day. Art soon. Working on a sketch of an up close of a project that actually means a ton to me.
Tiney, if you fancy posting any of your art, that would be lovely.
Probably best in the diary section. There is will be only visible to members.
Thank you I was wondering where to post it. Diary works, though I would say some of my art is public (and I've gotten a certain piece taken down off deviantart tons by others claiming it's theirs and still having my signature by it). Def will put more than I do publicly in there though.

Oooh. Good experience! Is learning manual, procedure and compliance tough? I considered the idea once for work. Was Cosmo tough to land work for or was it through the college? Sometimes I wish I did well with articles.

Sounds like you're naturally gifted
Can I take the 'gifted' title too?
I used to write procedure manuals and document control systems.

I was thrown into it so I had no choice but I have the entire English Dept behind me to edit my works so as long as I get the facts right, everything else is not a big deal. I don't think I am that naturally gifted, I am just brave hahaha...

I think you are much more gifted than that, Cherry.

Well, about Cosmo, I was not on staff. I just sent in articles here and there. I wrote about different cultures or from different culture perspective. That was over 30 years ago so the fact that I was Asian, 20ish, a grad student from Columbia who was socially active in community works helped. It made it more attractive for them to publish something from me.
Hi, everyone! I'm Rebecca and I live in Western Canada. I teach two special needs boys plus one undiagnosed but possibly ADHD, at home because our public schools don't have the resources to keep up with these guys. I want more time for writing (novels and non-fiction) but so far there isn't a lot left. I volunteer online right now as a moderator on FB pages, but my library training was my previous volunteer work that will pick up again once we're past pandemic restrictions.
I miss the old days of message boards in the early 2000's, when I was a community leader at iVillage. So glad to have found this site!

Too full! I'm going to be asking for more EA hours from the school, so I can handle the curriculum requirements of three! I'll also see if there's a way to be able to pay for more hours of behaviour intervention. Oh, that we were rich and could afford full-time care! I don't have hours left in the week or adult backup (that is, caregiver/babysitter) to add a job in for myself, hence volunteering a little bit instead.

I think you will look back on this as time well spent, and feel quite proud of yourself.
I don't know what state you are located at Rebecca, but where I am, employers really favor candidates with volunteer experience. Quite a few companies allow employees to take off few hours a week to volunteer, with pay.
