From what I can make out it was all about getting drunk, and having sex. It wouldn't suit me, I am a light drinker, and I have never fancied one night stands, or sex just for the sake of it. Even at my age I expect a bit of romance and some courting ritual.

what languages can you speak?

I'm speaking English, and 2nd is Japanese, and I was taught and learned Spanish but I'm not fluent in them.

It's sad that sometimes, I learn "english" from others whose primary language is not even English

I think I mentioned that I prefer the use of the original cyrillic characters. I think that one of the main problems of understanding is that of the characters and, in my opionion, a half way house seems confusing. It takes a little time and constant practice would help but knowing the characters gives a better feel and aids reading. Quite a lot of modern words are very similar in both when the character translation is understood.

I ran up my Russian keyboard (on screen keyboard with language swiched) and put the above phrase through, working out what the Russian would be, entering the cyrillic text for Russian to English translation. I was pleased to find that I could use your text and figured this out (the name may be a bit iffy though

):

мой друг лази спасибо

Thank you. What little Russian I know I have picked up here and there. My pronunciation, and grammar, is gleaned from a book that is perhaps more than fifty years old so won't reflect current uses exactly anyway. I tend to be led by modern words which are often literal translations of western words so, whether pronunciation is changed or not, often use the same letter. Although I have not accessed them recently (for obvious reasons) I have browsed Russian websites for details of some of the things I come across. I have found it a great help searching in cyrillic text as searches in English just bring up western sites. Really, I know little Russian but can feel my way about.

What is good with Russian, almost all words are pronounced by the rules. Some letters have two ways of pronunciation but as in French it is according to strict rules. Alas, the stress may be anywhere without any rules or logic.
