I grew up with English as my first language. I don't speak or read / write any others to a any real useable extent but do dabble in many in my researches. I love old sayings, accents and old English in general so, at least in normal speech, I do confuse people at times. In my job failure of communication, with anyone, was not an option, language being a major part.

Don't forget that children make mistakes when they are learning language. Don't worry, if you are interested you will get there. Being stressed will not help so you are not wrong

Well, we have British and American English in here, so even we sometimes don't know what someone is talking about if it's not a phrase used where we live lol
