Do you guys on here ever think the human race will one-day live on Mars?
It'd take a good three months to travel through space to reach the red planet. Then there is gravity on Mars/oxygen levels/food sources/buildings/atmospheric pressure/risk of volcanoes... The list goes on.
Perhaps in three centuries time we WILL live on Mars!

I would say no doubt about it. Colonies on the moon and Mars are coming.

Yes, I think so too but there are lots of issues to sort. I think the colonies will be small until we find a suitable planet.
So Priscillams was asking about possibly missing the Winter Solstice in the chat box
So I searched it and reckoned the best place to inform is here
It depends where you are :
So if your in the Northern Hemisphere - It occurs in December , January, February and March
If your in the Southern Hemisphere - It occurs in June , July , August and September
In the Northern Hemisphere its today and in London, England and United Kingdom its at - Wednesday 21st December at 21:48 GMT also 21:48 UTC
Northern Hemisphere also consists of North America , Europe , most of Asia and Northern Africa
In the Southern Hemisphere its in London, England and United Kingdom on Wednesday 21st of June so next year at 15:57 BST or 14:57 UTC
I don't know if its possible to see it in England since its the Southern Hemisphere but maybe if you wanted to watch online not sure why this website says England time with the Southern Hemisphere maybe I am silly and missing something as clear as the Moon ha
Southern Hemisphere also consists of Australia, New Zealand , South America and Southern Africa
I hope this helped you Priscillams and anyone else interested
Here is the link to the website where you can see it more clearly on the map
I saw Heatherly wanting to re focus the space and science section so as a guest I think the science, exploration and history area is best place for me to help spread space talk not moon walk ha
I saw the talk about moving to Mars and how long that could take, given a lot of troubles here on Earth and finances it may be delayed and interest in the project may drop but there are big companies with ground breaking plans so maybe 20-40 years from now.
I think the technology is nearly there, interest has been there for a while first person on Mars and so fourth, there is already a new Rover there to check for sign of life, the first steps to colonising and safe guarding the human race by branching out
Secondly if we could build space elevators it would change everything, its like when the car was made and horse and carage just went like over night you know
Space Elevators if built would drop the cost of transporting materials into space down massively, the pay load compared to fuel consumption on the rockets we have now is soo poor that's the main reason why all this space travel ect is soo expensive it takes a ton of money and fuel just to send like a car's worth of material into space so a space elevator would fix that over night and a sky hook would be revolutionary in terms of moving to planets ect, effectively its like a sling shot you go round and round and then when the item or in this case spacecraft is let go and the velocity propels it.
If we had strong enough materials to make booth of those (which we are getting close to) space travel would be like air line now compared to when it began and only the rich could fly around the world, space travel in addition to colonising projects would be way cheaper, available to many more and fast
So those are two future developments to space travel and what impact they could have
Take care everyone stay positive and look to the stars

Space elevators... that would be too scary for me because of how long I'd have to be in there to go anywhere lol
Maybe not as long as you may think, as least on the way up. With a vacuum there is little resistance so acceleration would be as quick as we can take and pressure feed into the tube would enable longer term thrust. Maybe braking at the other end would be the problem
I have heard of space elevators but not read anything. My view would be an air / vacuum tube, maybe similar to the things they use in supermarkets and offices occasionally.

Or those old bank vacuums that suck up tubes with your checks, etc. lol
That doesn't sound less scary to me. I would feel some claustrophobia regardless.

Those were the things I mean. In supermarkets they put money in the capsule and it is sucked along.

I never saw that in supermarkets, but I will never forget the bank process... It's fun to watch as a child lol technology sure has come a long way with that.

Claustrophobia is not the worst problem.
Can you imagine all that time spent with elevator music playing away?
I honestly hate how a big chunk of history is lost because humanity never recorded the day-to-day lives of women or their worldviews on current events. This is why I have started to accept that one woman's account in history is worth ten-thousand men's. It really allows you to gain an understanding about how men think as well from the perspective of an outside source not within their own minds.

I think people are just people, and dividing them into little groups does nobody any good.

In what way is this relevant to history which has stifled one half of its population? The dividing was already done in this regard. Really anything found from the perspective of a women in history is practically like hopeful miners digging up gold during the California gold rush. There has likely been several accounts of men during any given time period to reference, but if there is any account of a woman during the same time period definitely has value for allowing for a better understanding of how both men and women lived. It is still annoying how we know next to nothing about how women lived in Ancient Rome and most of the time the things we do know likely came from the words of man.

If you have to go back to roman times to find evidence against of my pov, you have not got much, have you?

I wasn't trying to debunk your point of view. Not sure what you're trying to say here. All I was saying is that a majority of history was recorded from a male perspective that is practically freely accessible. If you want to read about the male perspective from any given point in time you can do so. I'm saying that I am more interested in the perspective from women throughout history since gathering perspective from just men is really only one side of the whole story. Plus a lot of the times such perspectives isn't entirely diverse. Discovering written documents, accounts, or what have you from a woman in history is worth its weight in gold because it is such a rare thing that gets recorded and offers a new perspective that some of the men who record certain events tend to overlook. I was never saying that you are wrong. I was in agreement with you. Not sure what you are trying to express here.

Just the idea of creating a new planet is fascinating. You can do anything with science fiction. But fiction CAN become fact. It's like centuries ago the idea of an airplane was impossible. Nowadays it is the norm. I also predicted the electric car: that is now the new reality.
I wrote a poem about Mars called "Mission To Mars". I wrote a short story of the same name. It'd be too scary for me in reality - but again - you can do anything when you're writing science fiction.
