I may have to return to this... I'm tired, so nothing is coming to mind, but I know I'm a weirdo who does embarrassing things all the time, so there has to be something that pops into my head eventually

I remember dogs' names, but not their owners'.
I find myself apologizing profusely whenever I ask someone to remind me of their name. Unfortunately, that's after I've already greeted their dog by name.
I guess, going forward, I need to ask first, then pretend I don't know the dog's name.

You are not alone. Worse still I often dont recognise people if I see them without their dog. But in my mind the dig is the important one, I need to know if this is a friendly dog or a dog to be wary of , a dog mine will play with or will it be handbags at dawn..
Speaking of names. I can remember just about anything except for names. I mean I am really bad at times, being introduced and forgetting their name just a short time later. It is totally embarrassing and also rude on my part. I have been trying to do better and I am improving but it's still an issue. I don't have any idea why this happens.

Occasionally a name sticks my daughter is seeing a doctor whose name translated is Dr pickled herring... I couldn't help it I giggled and just said to her, thank goodness he isn't a gynecologist!!
Worse is that because people don't really interest me I often don't register their faces. So when my neighbours came to view this house I didn't recognise them she whispered to me hey we're the neighbours from across the road at nr 4.. Later when I spoke to her I explained that I have a kind of blindness when it comes to faces and I don't recognise people if they are in the wrong place or the wrong uniform. Luckily she was quite good humoured about it

I am actually excellent at remembering people's names: it is very important to me to know everyone's name. I make a record of it in my mind until it sticks in my mind. I also remember faces really well.

I guess I am lucky to have a good memory.
Face blindness isnt about memory its linked to ADHD and autism.

I always recognize a face, even years later after only one encounter. I may not recall right away where or when, but I eventually do. I don't remember their names, though. Case in point: I had Rosie's oil changed at a nearby Jiffy Lube, and the technician tried to convince me that my radiator needed replaced right then and there, even though it wasn't leaking on the floor. He showed me a moist spot on top of the radiator where some dirt absorbed some fluid. I thanked him for bringing it to my attention and told him that I would have my mechanic take a look at it. He then tried to convince me to "let the guy who found it" fix it, implying that my mechanic didn't notice it. I told him that it could have been a recent development, since it hadn't turned white, like the residue on the overflow tank. I ultimately got it replaced through my trusted mechanic.
I had bought Goldie later that year. Several years after that, I was checking in for a service in Denver. This guy was circling the car, measuring tire tread, then asked when I was going to switch out my winter tires. I already did, with brand-new all-seasons that I had put on two days prior! We went around for a bit until he looked them up online, only to find out that they were, indeed, all-season tires. He had a familiar face and smile. On the way home, I realized he was the same grease monkey who wanted to replace my radiator several years before.

I am terrible at remembering names and faces. I wonder why as I do paint portraits and that requires looking into tiny details of facial features and muscle tone. Maybe I just get on better with other things.

I am not much better. I just assume that I forgot them as I really don't care.
For saying that, I have just come from a ship containing about 3,000 passengers, and was amazed at how many I seemed to see so regularly.
Rather oddly, I remember all the names of my patients, and for years afterwards.
BUT, I have no idea who they are when I actually see them, unless they are very regular, and/or have memorable personalities.
I have also found it's the ones I don't like that I remember first.
There are some patients I will probably never forget. Like some who always seemed to come up with issues either just before or during the weekend They were mostly justified though but people you love to hate? There were not many I did not like. Usually those with a selfish attitude. Agressive parents who think you should drop everything so their beloved gets priority didn't help, as well as relatives in denial (many of our patients had terminal illnesses). Mostly though, on thinking about it, I remembered patients far more than other people I meet. I think it may be the combination of themselves and the equipent we supplied, giving multiple prompts to memory. My memory was also far better with the more local patients. I think it was the same in the department as others often remembered patients as much by where they lived as the patient themselves.
That was one of my dreams when I was little. It never happened but from pretending I was, as well as trying to stretch into odd positions like a gymnast, I did end up being very supple so can bend and twist better than most.
