I think it depends on your circumstances. There's no point making homemade food if you cook like my sister-in-law. She could ruin a bowl of cornflakes!
My children had various food allergies so I had no choice, I had to make everything from scratch.
Nowadays I quite enjoy doing it. I think we might order take-out food once a year. Ready meals we never eat.
I prefer home made food but I do like to grow it as well. I also like eating out or takeouts and do occasionally eat ready meals. I am really omnivorous in the widest sense
I must say if I go out I try to order something from the menu that I wouldnt cook myself. In Ireland ( Jonny Fox co. Dublin) I had Champagne Confit Duck and it was delicious.

What's best is what works best for you..

I think if I ate takeout once a year I'd starve. lol

I like them all; they each serve a purpose.
I either prepare lunches for the entire work week, and/or I bring ready-made microwavable meals (Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, Evol, Amy's, etc.) to heat up at work. I don't eat leftovers for lunch. On occasion, I might have takeout or go out to lunch.
For dinner, we typically cook for 4-8 people, depending on the recipe, and have leftovers the next night or three. That way, we don't spend so much time in the kitchen after work. Sometimes, we'll have takeout for dinner. We've never used meal kits.

I'll eat whatever and like everything. I mostly cook and have leftovers for dinner. I save the frozen meals for tired or busy days or in-between meal plans if I don't have ingredients....
I also get fast food for something quick when I'm really hungry and don't have much at home that interests me, but it's usually for lunch and not dinner. We might do that a couple times in a month, mainly tacos or chicken nuggets (I get grilled ones). I'm obsessed with tacos, and I found a new taco place with lots of gf options that packs everything with a good amount of meat.
For whatever reason if I don't have anything for dinner or I don't feel up to cooking, then I usually order delivery of some sort (pizza, burgers, or pf changs), but there's not so many options, so we don't do that too much.

I cook with my sister most days of the week. I occasionally cook with my dad, when my sister is running late. I certainly enjoy the cooking process. But I also love Chinese takeaways and MacDonald's. But they are not a regular occurence. And I enjoy my food.
I like watching cookery programmes on TV with my sister and trying out new recipes. We are very adventurous in the kitchen!
I am interested in registering with Hello Fresh in my later years: it seems the best way to be independant when I have moved away/living without my sister and dad.

I prefer homemade dinners. But I do also enjoy going out to eat. In fact, I've been going out for lunches and dinners for years and years. I always prefer eating with people than eating alone: whether it's with family, friends or work.

I enjoy both. You can do some excellent people watching when you are alone.

I don't mind eating alone. In fact, when I was first divorced from my ex, I decided that I would take myself out once a week. Also, I would treat myself to birthday dinners at upscale restaurants I had never before tried.

When I was first divorced from my ex, Borders Bookstore and Barnes and Nobles were still alive in my area, I would bring a little blankie and pillow there, get a cub of tea and just read from on section to another until I was ready to go home to sleep.
These days, I eat more healthily, so... Okay...Who am I kidding, I love takeout meals lol but I think I really have to prefer homemade food. Btw, what's your favorite takeout or supermarket-ready meal?
I just try to add one serving of a green vegetable to any dinner.
I try.. and fail. Depends on what the meal is. For example... wings and french fries.. what green veggie do I want with that? I don't like celery that some people get with it to dip in ranch lol maybe a pickle could work.. but does that count? xD

Peas, over here we tend to have peas with french fries.

I prefer the taste of canned string beans to fresh. Maybe it is the texture.
Yeah, I eat green beans the most.. followed by broccoli. I like them relatively fresh, but it does have to be cooked right. Microwavable bags of them usually have a good texture... can even get the french cut versions, which is even better! It tastes pretty good with almond slivers... I never would have thought to do that on my own.
I am not a big fan of peas, I prefer the smaller garden peas. Marrowfat are horrid and as for mushy peas, they are disgusting.
I hate mushy peas too, particularly the chip shop ones, the smell of which I find repulsive. I do like others though. I like most kinds of beans, although sometimes get confused on which must be cooked and which need not, so I cook all of them. I used to eat beans straight from the plants when I was in the fields where mum was working when I was little but those must have been Ok to eat
Peas, odd things ...Fresh from the garden delicious.. In pea soup such as Im making today they are wonderful..
Tins and jars they turn into tasteless wet things and somehow from the freezer the frozen taste never leaves them.. (If anyone knows how to get rid of this please tell)..Ive tried soaking in water then refreshing before cooking , cooking with a mint leaf, defrosting then cooking , but the freezer tatse is always there..

I understood from 'experts' that peas were identical to fresh after freezing?
I found this:
Freezing peas at their ripest preserves their texture and sweetness. Fresh peas might tend to start tasting grainy once they turn stale. Ideally, there is not much difference in the taste of the peas. You might feel a bit of a difference in the taste, mainly due to psychological reasons.
