Our tiny country is very very worried about global warming and climate change. The authorities are determined to lower our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce our carbon footprint as a nation. What real impact this will have is negligible we are so tiny like an ant in a world full of rhinos...
But they are trying..and turning down the thermostat adjusting clothing to suit the weather , showering for shorter times at lower temperatures, using less drinking water where grey water will do( gardens car wash etc) are all measures encouraged by government to every household.
Yes, I can imagine, particularly with your geography. I was not getting at that at all.
What I was really getting at was more a general thing, one of frustration, in that we have come so far yet seem to have bypassed things like good insulation for houses which would avoid what should be minor issues of a degree or two on the thermostat. The emphasis has always been on how we can produce more energy to compensate rather than use it efficiently as that has been the cheaper option, and also makes the energy companies richer
Ahh yes totally agree..
The oil driven economy..More More More... Encouraging us to use and consume and now that we are trapped in that oil driven, oil relient sitution they encouraged we are told its running out its precious and we should cut back.. One that springs to mind are the big out of town shopping areas that killed the high street. You have to have a car to visit them but a car is rapidly becoming the plaything of the rich.
So many modern houses are built in such a way that having anything except the gas central heating suppilied would require major building work at great expense. Another example of trapping us into their game..
Has anyone else noticed how hard it is to buy decent winter clothing? The vast majority of high street shops sell very flimsy clothes and coats not designed for bad weather. But then why would we need wellingtons if we are only moving from car to office via a sheltered car park or home to shop again in a car and via a carpark.. The same goes for decent jumpers ( not those thin nylon dress up things) why would anyone need one in a heated house, shop, or office?
Until of course the heating goes off and the cars stop running...
Because we are dog walkers and general outdoors types OH and I buy a lot of clothes from suppliers of outdoor sports clothing, hunting jackets, fishermans macs etc things designed for people who are outdoors and need protection from all types of weather.. The people we meet along our walks often look like shivering drowned rats as their trendy parka coats are not rain proof and their shoes not suitable for mud...
We have often said that in a crisis these would be the first to die.. Without a mobile phone a car and central heating they wouldnt have a clue.
