There is no doubt you should also have a connection with the property before buying it: if you don't feel the love, it does not really matter how practical the property. BUT I still feel there has to be answered questions, as I listed in my previous post.
My new construction is an one story of 4 bed/3ba with 2 great rooms, one with my piano and the other one will also serve as my husband's home office, both with fireplace. We will have a large yard that I have an ambitious but simple plan for. Sounds enjoyable but the journey there is very painful. I am hoping we can move in before the end of the year. I should be able to tell in the next two weeks.
Annie it sounds really nice and I am keeping my fingers crossed that you will indeed be able to move in by the end of the year.
i prefer a (non-HOA) house because i like to make stuff "mine." i modified the crap out of my current apartment but hopefully by the time I move it will have been long enough that it will need remodeling anyway and i can still get my deposit back. I removed the vertical blinds, screen door, shelving in the closet, painted every surface (even the doors and trim), put down concrete stones in the yard etc. i like the freedom to fix stuff myself, too, rather than waiting on the landlord and their repair people.

I don't blame you. Although an HOA can help if you have some households in the community that just let things go and their property is messy but they often get so restrictive that you can't do somethings that are reasonable or you can't do anything without their approval.

Call me next time you are looking to rent. I might just go back into the rental business.

well i was planning to move to san diego sometime in the near future so if you have anything downtown at least 450 sq ft and under 1500$ I'll be there. barring thati will probably die in this studio in stupid oc.
I don't like this neighborhood that much to tell the truth, each time the sales person from the sales office told me a neighbor wants to visit me, I was not that thrilled. I make one excuse after another, they are kind of snobbish in my opinion.

Neighbours are a very mixed bag. We get on fine with the ones on our left. We say hello, and we have the occasional chat. They are ideal neighbours.
On the right is quite different. We get on very well with them, and often have long chats, and help each other out. But he can be a bit opinionated, and if/when we fall out with him/them it will get awkward. So great neighbours, but with question mark over their qualities.

Ours are a very mixed bag too but things usually run well. I could live in the middle of nowhere lol. It does make me feel priviledged not to have to live in a terrace house in town with tiny back garden though. Ok for some but I like space.Things could be far worse.

I had a friend who wanted to live in the middle of nowhere, but with no more than a postage stamp sized garden. lol
All of the noisy and obnoxious people in my entire neighborhood happen to live directly near me lol when I go for walks... it's so quiet and peaceful.
Now it's the season for more fire burning and chimneys, and our one neighbor makes the entire neighborhood stink.. it's hard to be outside for very long without feeling like you're suffocating in a cloud of smoke. I hate it because I really like cooler weather and like to be out in my yard most during those times.. and they ruin my ability to be outside.

Which reminds me, we are heading for firework season.

It's getting rare here now and I do notice when I walk past a house which is burning an old fashioned fire. It used to be a nightmare drying clothes outside years ago. The worst I get is the neighbour's barbeque. It is irritating as I am affected by fumes. The worst are diesel fumes though. If I cross the railway just after a train has passed I can instantly smell the fumes. I avoid walking beside busy roads as much as I can.
Fireworks are not allowed in this city where I am now.
aka the city of happy dogs.
oh yes, there are dogs everywhere in this city and other animals as well. I saw turkeys walk on my lawn quite often, they look at the construction workers with a daring look.
Turkeys are such funny looking birds. They always make me smile.
They are dreading next month here in the States...
Now dont say this too loudly but apperently in the UK there is no one to slaughter the Turkeys... Sssh or it could lead to a US turkey refugee rush all claiming asylum in the UK..
Unfortunately, people still light them off in my neighborhood even though it's illegal in city limits. My neighbors behind me used to be one of the worst offenders. My dogs weren't happy on July 4th or New Year's Eve.
