I know we are way off topic but Ive never met a nice corgi...
The pack theory and the dominance one are both outdated and at least one of the authors regrets publishing his much misused and misunderstood work. In fact the alpha dog theory came from work dont in the 1930s and 40 with wolves... Can you imagine if someone told you they were going to practice 1930s medicine on you...Most people would run a mile and so we should from those training methods.
However the whole furbaby can do no wrong approach is also really badly flawed. It leads to pampered spolied pets who like spoilt children kick off when they dont get their own way.
positive re-enforcement is great but it must be used properly..
Thanks. That was interesting. I think we straddle the two techniques.
But, although ours has a very strong personality, and is alpha among other dogs, she has a very caring, personality, so maybe she would have been just as good with most any technique.

It's something I would have to research to give a good answer either way but I would still question the pack theory. I still see up to date programs on the TV with, such as, African Wild Dogs who tend to have a pack leader and hierachy.
As we know some, particulary, groups of men tend to form packs too. Ok that is pushing things with a species jump but I am reminded of a couple walking their dog who I came across on a narrow path recently. The dog, although running free, paid little attention to me until I got near the couple. It then came up to me barking profusely. The couple came along, the man saying that the dog was a big softie, but as they passed, even though I moved to one side they were still two abreast and almost on the point of pushing me into the ditch. The expression of their faces showing their lack of concern for anyone. I held my tongue, as it would gain nothing, but it was plain to me that the dog was in many ways behaving in a similar manner to it's owners, maybe more to apease them than any inate canine desire. The number of times I see it's likely the owners who are the real problem

I am glad you're OK after that dog encounter, jen: you could have been seriously injured.
You're right: some owners ARE to blame for not controlling their dog: those owners you went past should have known better. Dogs need disipline and to be trained. If that dog is not - and is dangerous - something should be done. I don't know what, but something.

This is a p[roblem I see with Staffordshire and American Bull terriers they are often owned by aggressive little men with no gumption but a huge ego and that rubs off on these loyal and loving dogs and ends up costing them their lives as they become branded as dangerous.
Of course some breeds are most guarding or territorial but often its the owners who are to blame in much the same way that antisocial people raise antisocial children.
Where I am, dogs must be on leash all the time when they are outside and the owners must carry a bag to pick up their poops. But the leash can be long and the owner might be distracted when their dog jump on someone.

Annie, I think that law is about everywhere in the country now.

It's pretty much like that here in built up areas although the dog has to be under control but I am not sure whether a lead is the law.
I had a funny morning this morning. Setting out to town, the weather was dismal with wind and rain. It didn't stop the police speed trap on the way though and, shortly before I entered town, I came across a massive flock of sheep which were being herded in my direction along the main road. Some drivers were turning around and I almost followed but then thought the sheep would not be a problem. They weren't but it was a bit heart stopping when they filtered their way through the waiting cars. They were jumping across in front of me, shepherded by a collie sheepdog. Maybe I only need to remember this and count the jumping sheep to fall asleep tonight
Good morning.. Well another storm heading in so batten down the hatches ladies. I hope Cherry doesnt get sea sick !
We managed to get out with the dogs before the rain started so that was a bonus, I think this afternoon I have to take my daughter to the crematorium to pick up her cats ashes. Another emotional trip.

Stay safe everyone and have a great Monday
I was thinking of Cherry this morning and hoping that she has got away from it alll for a while. This storm seems rough but not as bad as the recent ones. I have not checked the news yet though.

Oh no... I hope her ship is sailing onto calmer waters. There isn't much worse than being caught in a storm at sea.
Today is a holiday here, Presidents Day. Not one with much fanfare and i still have to work but it usually does bring a little lighter workload for me.

I've done a load of cleaning and college course admin.
I am now waiting for an email from my tutor, so she can forward me the coursework I need to write and submit. I have 7 days to get it all done and sent off.
Yesterday I did get out for my walk. It was windy and I did see that there was some damage to fences here and there but I think we were lucky locally as I didn't see any major damage.
After all the days of storms and wetness both rain and tears we have a nice day.
This morning we saw the sunrise like candy stripes across the sky and the birds are back from where ever they hid and are singing their lungs out.
The cat is safely home and my daughter is strarting to get her other cats settled into life without their leader. A new cat pole is arriving to dstract and tempt them into play.
I have my washing on and we are expecting a delivery any moment for a new ceiling in the garage.

I have washed a load of laundry and have done life admin. I am also browsing the Internet. I made myself a caffetterie coffee earlier, too.
My boiler is broken - again - so I have to shower at my dad's house. They NEED to replace my boiler: it's getting ridiculous. My boiler has broken down twice already this year. AND my boiler broke down a few times last year. It isn't funny anymore.
I shall push my housing association: because they need to consider this problem will also hit the next tenant.
I had a pretty good day until I misplaced my car keys.... I finally did find them a couple of hours later. The worse part is they never really were misplaced. They were in the bottom of my purse under some tissues that I had already checked out a couple of times...
Let's see...I dragged myself outta bed...peed...stumbled to the kitchen for some coffee...emailed dad...drank coffee...did a breathing treatment...posted here...played some Fortnite...took a shower...played some Animal Crossing...got blood drawn...froze tits off getting gas...nearly died from oxygen deprivation at the supermarket...came close to passing out dragging the groceries into the house from the car.... lmbo!
It was a fairly typical Wednesday with me. Top up shop, then our art group meeting. It should have been a relaxing day but somehow I got very tired. When I think of it though, even going to art is over a 50 mile round trip. All these things add up

I drank my caffetterie coffee and put on a load of laundry. I am also waiting for the engineer to come and fix my boiler. I have a doctor's appointment today, too.

I attended my doctor's appointment . I have to go back in a few weeks time. I've booked that next appointment yesterday.
I drank my regular coffee and did some admin on my computer. I am STILL waiting for the engineer to come and fix my boiler: it's getting ridiculous. I NEED hot water and heating. In fact, I need a new boiler altogether. I shall be writing a professional letter to advise they do so.
Anyhow, it is a sunny day and I am still waiting for the engineer. Nevermind.

My boiler was fixed by the engineer last night: he attended at 9pm. This means I got to have a hot shower in my apartment this morning!
I have also taken out the rubbish & recycling, put on a load of laundry and am airing out my apartment. I have also drunk my caffetterie coffe and am browsing the Internet. This includes posting on Facebook, which I do regularly.
