We didn't hand out candy on Halloween and gave no indication that we were. The doorbell rang a couple of times that night, but we didn't answer it. I remember being in the living room and hearing something on the opposite end of the house. I thought, "They wouldn't be egging the house, would they?!" I didn't hear anything else, and I chalked it up to my husband having messed with something in the office, also at the other end of the house. I didn't think any more of it.
Yesterday afternoon, I came home and saw a strange shadow behind the Silhouette blind. It didn't look like it would be a large bird dropping, and it would have been a really large bug or spider. I opened the blind to find a pierced screen, a hole in the outer pane, and a BB lying at the bottom of the frame between the two panes.
So, I spent the day window shopping...literally. Work was slow, so I was able to do some research. Unfortunately, the local manufacturer of the windows I had installed in '94/'95 is no longer in business. While trying to contact hubby, who now works from home, I discovered our landline is out! So, we have a service call in for that as well.
Hubby and I decided to "divide and conquer." He went to one facility, and I left work early to visit another across town. I got there an hour before closing, but the shop was locked up tight with nobody around. GRRRRRR! Hubby didn't fare any better. He told me that the company he visited is a reseller, not a manufacturer. We might as well just go to Home Depot or Lowes to replace the window.
For now, since it's double-paned it will be fine. We have a few other calls we can make before we resort to the home improvement/big box stores.

We may or may not go out to get donuts this afternoon. We'll see if we feel up to it later. We were up late with our doggy.. she was having a bad night.
My husband's highschool best friend visited SF with his wife, sister/husband and BIL/wife.
We spent the evening with the 6 of them in SF last night at dinner then at a duel piano bar, it was so fun. I met them for the first time, they were so warm and comfortable to be with. There were over 200 people at that bar last night but these people were clearly the life of the party, they were outrageously funny and did not hold back at all, singing and dancing and enjoying themselves...People approached them and just rolled up their eyes in surprise when they found out what they do for living.
Today, we took hubby's best friend and his wife to Sausalito for lunch then visited a few art galleries. They ordered a few pieces to ship back to Boston. We came home, so tired but tomorrow is another event, hosted by one of my sisters.
Dog walking in the morning. Waiting for the new washing machine in the afternoon. BUT, since we moved the cupboard next to the washing machine, the waste pipe no longer reaches. Yes, it needs moving.
I can't decide, either to do it myself, or let the plumber........

Today I phoned all my patients to warn them I am coming tomorrow.
One of mine has vanished. She was a reclusive, who would only let me call ever 7-8 months. She used to ask me to do hearing tests for her, and all sorts of things I was unqualified for lol
It was nice that she had such faith in me aka frightened of everyone else.
I was quite fond of her, she had a dry sense of humour, and accepted that she was 'bonkers'.
I doubt if she is in a care home, as she was very with it, though in her 90's. I expect she will have died, so I hope she went easily.

My doctor of 28 years and his partner sold their busy practice a year ago, and now they're renting space downstairs from their old practice (they owned the building as well). They downsized from 2300+ patients, each, to just 400...now a concierge practice.
I knew he had some medical issues, as he had mentioned having abdominal surgery a couple of years ago and losing weight because of it. Earlier this year, his patients were notified that he would be gone for a few months and that his partner (I've seen him before) would be taking care of us until his return. I was told he would be undergoing some sort of treatment which would require a lengthy hospital stay and recovery period.
Today, I went in for my usual monthly INR, and I noticed his business cards were missing from the reception desk. When I inquired about his health (as I usually did), the receptionist told me that he unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday of last week.
We had such a fantastic walk today.. Through the woods at Oranjewoud and the first thing to greet us was a white deer. He was bold , he stood in the middle of the path and just stared at us. wonderful... Even George was stunned into silence !
When we got home some kids were outside and they let off a huge firework scaring the life out of the dogs and Basil... OH ran out but they had run off so I was on the phone to the council and the nearby school but it turns out my neighbour beat me and the school have seen her cctv footage and are investigating.. I hope they catch the little turd.

I am waiting for a telephone call, so I can book my English exams next year.
LATER: I have received said telephone call. I just need the exam board and entry code. Then it is plain sailing from there! I am very much hoping my exams do get booked swiftly and without too many problems. It is a little scary too, though: I shall be sitting two very important exams. But it is exciting, as well.

Sorry to hear, and finding a good doctor can be so difficult..

Sad.. good doctors are hard to find. I know I mourned the death of my vet more than I mourned the deaths of people much closer to me.
He was a good friend and trusted person those two things are even more difficult to find.
Having groceries delivered today. Bummed that Amazon Prime doesn't have free delivery for groceries anymore.. guess I'll have to go elsewhere for cheaper delivery.

Yesterday it was a short visit to the supermarket then on to art group. We made a few preperations for Christmas, doing the draw for the secret santa for one. Everyone has a member drawn at randon who they give a hand drawn or painted card to. It is always interesting to see the results.
