Yesterday we were out and about most of the day.. I already mentioned some of the food in the food thread, but we also went by a furniture store to retry a couch we liked there. We wanted to make sure we compared properly because we tried several couches recently, and we were not sure if we were just forgetting the comfort level of the very first couch we tried or if we really did luck out by finding a perfect couch on the first try.... sure enough, it was just as comfy as we remembered, and now we are settled on purchasing it during a Memorial Day sale. We also took home swatches (some were copies we already took home last time), but we focused more on cotton, no chemicals, etc. Unfortunately, once you pick out based on material and lack of chemicals, then you are very limited to the color choices lol so the option is a very light gray (almost the color of our walls, so that's a no for us) or a darker gray (a touch lighter than our current couch). We were hoping for something more in-between the two this time around, but oh well, will stick with darker gray lol
We also did a tiny bit of grocery shopping at a store we don't get to very often. I picked up some fresh GF ravioli and some GF sweets (coffee cake muffins and mini cupcakes).
Then we went to a greenway about 25 mins from us so we could see/hear the 13-year cicadas that emerged this year (Brood XIX) because it doesn't seem any are in our yard. They are more rare, and they are very cool looking with gold on their wings and red eyes. I noticed some have a black underbelly, and some have gold, and I'm not sure if that is indicative of an age or sex? Didn't get a chance to research into it lol it sure was loud... we were only able to walk a very short distance on the walking trail because the creek flooded and blocked off the path after only about a quarter of a mile, but what we saw was pretty.... and thankfully most of the cicadas were very close to the parking lot anyway We saved a few, of course, not that they need our help LOL but we can't help ourselves.

Yesterday, Mom's home called (twice) and left voicemails (at 0739 and 0834) informing that she fell in the bathroom and landed on her back. She was alert and talking up a storm. I did not hear the phone ring, even though it was only about 15 feet away from me both times. Only after I grabbed the phone to replace my camera lens cover, did I see the missed calls and voicemails. They mentioned that they were instructing the ambulance to take her to the "hospital of choice," Evans Army Community Hospital (WTF?). While I dashed to get ready and gather paperwork, Hubby called Evans, and they had no record of her. He called the other hospitals...same story.
So, I started my journey at 1115, driving to Evans. The receptionist said there was no record of her, but she "called upstairs" to find more info. While she was on the phone, I called the ambulance company to find out where they took her and was met with, "We don't give out that information due to HIPAA laws." WTF?! "You could try calling around." I told her we already did that, and asked her if I was expected to drive all around town to find her?!
The receptionist also called one of the same hospitals that Hubby did and told me that they had her there. I thanked her profusely and went on my way. By the time I got there, they had already given her a CAT scan and taken blood and urine samples. Waiting for all the coordination with various professionals on a Saturday takes a long time. It was ultimately decided that they would keep her overnight until there were more professionals "available on day shift."
I made sure she got settled in her room. When they were finished with asking me questions, I headed home at about 10:00 pm. It was an exhausting day, to say the least.
Today, I picked up an outfit for her at Target so that she could go home from the hospital fully clothed vs. the pajama top and adult diaper she was wearing when the ambulance brought her. It's in the dryer now after a short wash. Hopefully, today the hospital will have some news for me regarding her continued care and treatment options.

I bet she is really proud of you. You have looked after her well.

That must have been a really traumatic event for all of you
You kept a clear and determined head and thankfully you found where your mom was being taken care of.
Hope everything will remain a-okay for her. I know fractures are a big concern when we age, even without falling.. so oof!
Such an ordeal to find where she was... but happy you could find her and can bring her some clothes to wear
Wishing her a speedy recovery!
Thanks, Heather. Today wasn't a good day. When I went to visit, she was being obstinate about everything from the clothes I brought, to refusing all meals, to refusing to present her wristband for scanning, to refusing to have her blood pressure taken, to refusing to sit up for the occupational therapist...and on and on.

I am so sorry to hear that
It could just be the shock of the incident that has upset her the most

I feel for you it's awful trying to deal with dementia. Sometimes sometimes I would play silly tricks on my mother-in-law to ease any sticking point. She was doubly incontinent and needed to bath every day I wanted her to get in the bath but I knew if I asked she wouldn't so I would run it put radox in it and then say oh silly me I've run you a bath and I put radox in it she didn't want to waste her bath products or the hot water so she would get in the bath again. I also bought us matching overalls to wear at dinner and I said I don't want to slop soup on my nice blouse would you like one as well? and then she accepted. It's a constant guessing game wondering what they will accept where they are at on that day and what little thing might trigger a bad mood.

I specialised in the care of dementia patients. There is often more than one way to skin a cat.
One chap, I used to greet like a long lost friend. A lady who I always asked her "how is work? Another I used to say "Shhh, you will wake the baby."
I don't have a clue how many dementia patients I cared for, hundreds I would guess. But I know precisely how many were happy. That figure was four.
I often think of some of them. I lost a happy one last month. She was very content, and always had a smile. I am sorry I never knew her before the dementia. She used to tell me how her father told her off for biting her nails, and then we would chat about her piano.

I went shopping with my sister today!
We bought clothing for my dad and a cake tin for my dad to bake his bread in. I also now have a new smart phone! It's great. I bought myself six pairs of earrings and we just wandered all around the shops. There were a lot of kids about but that was fine. We also ate out for lunch: I had chicken noodles. We eventually paid when one of the member's of staff asked us if we were OK. I just told him we were waiting to pay! So he was a star and we paid for our meal.
Yesterday we visited my son and family. I was good to see my grandchildren in the flesh for a change. My son had not told them we were coming so it was a good surprise. It took the youngest a while to settle though as she only normally sees us via the computer screen. A long drive these days but all in all a great day

I had my daily shower this morning: I sure stank. But I used soap and the BO is gone. I used the Body Shop White Musk perfume after my shower.
I also gave my apartment a clean. This includes my bathroom and kitchen. I keep on top of the laundry, too. I did other cleaning activities, and the rest will be done tomorrow.
Yesterday I tided and repotted some houseplants so that I am organised for when I revarnish some of the woodwork in the house. It will mean moving all of the plants off the front windowsill for several hours at least while the varnish dries so the less I have to move the better.
Today it is art group, which I am looking forward to.
