Yesterday afternoon, I had an in-office surgical excision performed on my back. As the skin is so thick there, she put in three layers of stitches, the top of which I need to have removed in a couple of weeks. I didn't get much sleep over the weekend because of upcoming tax day. Now, I can't sleep because it's pretty uncomfortable. Needless to say, I took some acetaminophen and stayed home today.

It sounds like their are a few health issues around. I hope you are all Ok.
I did get out yesterday as the rain held off. It's probably the weather but I did think about the people I did not see and whether they were Ok. It's been so dreary lately that I am down at times and just wonder how others are being affected.
I know * one swallow does not a summer make* but it was nice to see them return this morning after their winter break. They are bickering on the roof !

I went to work as normal today. I got a lot of tasks done.
After work I collected my sister's shopping and went home. I am now online and am airing out my apartment. I've also been eating my lunch. Including a small bottle of coca-cola.
I did the mid week shop yesterday and then went to art group. It was a quiet meeting as there were only a few of us but we had a good chat. After I got home and had lunch / tea I unpacked two parcels which had arrived. One of herbs and spices and the other with carniverous plants. The plant one was tricky as the plants were well packed. The company I use pack them well so each plant took several minutes to unpack. They all appear Ok though. They will have been stressed on their journey so I will see how they go in the coming days.

Can you recommend me a first carnivorous plant and where to get it from, please?

The order I have just got is only my second with them but they seem reliable and quick. The plants are good and they have good reviews.
There are various plants, some being easy to grow and others far less so but it maybe depends a lot on taste and the actual growing situation. Indoor or outdoor etc.
If you look on the site you will find that there are seperate sections with beginners plants and a hardy section too. There are also collections.
Personally I started with a Venus Flytrap but it is possibly not the easiest, although it's not difficult. Some Sundews are probably easier. There are a few basic rules like watering (usually NOT tap water, playing with them [traps] or fertilizing, and temperature requirements etc.) but it's not difficult. That said, the information and help around now is far better than it was when I got my flytrap (well over twenty years ago), as the information I came across then could be conflictive and people often had no idea. Now sensible information is available more readily online, even organisations.
I might sound a bit vague but what I suggest you do is have a look and then get back to me then. There are many species I know little about but they are mostly trickier in one way or another.
Ps: I do notice on their beginners collections on the website that they do give a basic guide to growing. They may well include that with the sent order as I got one with mine yesterday.

When I order on line sometimes it is hit of miss. I black label the companies that I feel didn't pack well or sent me inferior plants. I do expect there to be some stress so i am prepared for that.

Yes, I know what you mean as I have had other orders in which I would not order there again although the two plant suppliers I have used have been good.
The plant supplier I mention does package plants really well though. So well in fact that it probably takes about five minutes to carefully unwrap each plant. They are so well wrapped you could probably drop the pot to the floor without damage, which is obviously required for the postal system. Even the well wrapped plants are then well secured inside the postal box with other packing. Many suppliers of goods could learn from them.
Yesterday I went for my walk in the morning and then spent most of the afternoon in the garden. I got very tired but that is sorted for the moment. Today I need to get back to tidying and cleaning in my neglected house

Jen, it sounds like you have found a good supplier.

They seem good and have been so far. If you look at the website you will see they are well organised and some staff at least have years of experience.

Today was spent going down one "technological" rabbit hole after another...
After Mom was discharged from hospice (again), a different (local) company took over her care. Well, they use a patient portal (AthenaHealth), as I received an email from them after their first visit with her. This email had a link to the notes posted on the portal, but she didn't have an account.
My doc uses the same portal for his practice as well, so I already have an account with them. So, I logged into my account and tried to set up "family access." I entered all her information, but "there was no record" of her. The top of the web page indicated that this was for my doc's practice.
So after calling the provider yesterday, I was told that would have to create a separate account for her, using a separate email...
Mom is a soon-to-be 85 year-old woman who has dementia and was otherwise computer illiterate and has never had her own email account. Dad was the one who always received emails for her. After some googling and trying to create an account for her under mine. I tried calling customer (dis)service. After going round and round with their telephone system which tells me, every time to go to their web site, and trying to get a representative to help, I ended up throwing the handset down the hallway. I know, mistreating technology doesn't make it work any better. I've thrown something out of sheer anger and frustration only one other time in my life.
I had to create a freemail account for her in order to set her up with a Comcast ID. Once that was done, I had to activate the email account. I then tried to set up my Outlook client to grab her emails as well as my own. That didn't work, either. I ended up using the forwarding function so that her Comcast email would be forwarded to mine. GRRRR! Okay...that tested out pretty well.
So, it's all set up to create her own patient portal account...
I created a new AthenaHealth account using her new email address. I saw that there was nothing but an "empty" account. I went into the "Family Access" area and granted myself full access. I then signed into my own account, where I was met by my mother's name and provider. My account information vanished! Under Mom's name, there were two links for her and one for me (self). I clicked on my name, and my provider's name was gone as well as my history. GRRRRR!!!!!
I went back to the original email that the provider sent, referring to visit notes, and I clicked the link. It took me to the account THEY created for her, using MY email account, which I cannot change in her profile. I downloaded the notes, because when I call to complain on Monday, I don't want those to disappear as well.
Technology...it's not for sissies.

Good luck!
One thing that I am finding quite a bit is that they seem to be trying to provide systems that are easier for the user to setup and use. In that way they have a prescribed route through setup but if you don't follow that route, or their software 'glitches' at a point in the middle, the system fails such that even they don't know what is happening (where 'they' are any company).
I think that was the problem I had with ebay some while back where they were refusing to refund me when I had actually followed their procedure. I suspect that as I had not accepted their relevant cookies it screwed up their tracking so I was not presented with their full range of on screen options. I will never know though but I am not a slave to such demands.
