My poetry book "Gobbledegook" is selling really well online! When I read a few reviews, I was really surprised.
In fact - for all other creative writers on here - Lulu.com is the place to put all your work for publishing. There is NO fee and no payment at all. By the way, I promise this is NOT SPAM. I genuinely use Lulu.com. I have around 6 books published with them. I can't name them, but they are on the site. However, Gobbledegook is one of them. I definitely enjoyed writing and designing the book. I used an old crayon drawing as the cover design. I had to use all my computer skills. This means - unfortunately for some - you need to be an experienced computer user to use Lulu.com. That is the only downside.
I have done creative writing for years and years now. I also attended a creative writing class at my local library years back. I had a small success with United Press, as well. I was featured in one of their anthologies. United Press aren't around anymore, but at least I got some credit for my work. I have also had short stories published professionally: not with any vanity publisher.
Anyhow, loads of people are loving Gobbledegook. I am really delighted and pleased. To have others appreciate and take enjoyment from your work is wonderful. I also think you guys should consider being published if that is your thing.
@popcorn&candy How do sales work with Lulu? Do they have an online shop or do they market the books for you? At the moment my books are with createspace who got taken over by Amazon so mine are available via Amazon, in paperback and kindle and via other online stores such as Bol.com and Barnes and Noble in the US.
I just wondered what the reach of Lulu is because Amazon can be a bit naughty at times withdrawing titles or messing about with formats.

I could not bump up the previous thread, so have created this one.
Cassie, you can get your work in the spotlight. There is a website called Lulu.com. I have around 5 books published with them. I won't list them, BUT I think you should check out the website. You'll have to Google it, but I think having a publishing company let you publish free-of-charge is pretty good. You will need to use your computer skills and would need to design and edit your books yourself.
I have also had books published with United P.C. In fact, I had a short story published in one of their recent anthologies. They do mostly the designing, but you have to edit your work yourself. Which - as a writer too - you do anyway. You get charged around $90 every three years to keep your contract in play. This is all they have charged me. It does still smack of vanity publishing, but some publishers have hidden costs and can charge you $1000's without you realizing that could happen. United P.C also sell all over the Internet and they are not dodgy in any way. Thousands of authors have worked with said publisher.
I do hope I've helped with my suggestions, Cassie. I personally stick with Lulu now. It's free and you get a percentage of the sales.

Not necessarily work that you'd publish, but poems that you simply enjoyed writing?
I have been writing poems for a long time now. I am lucky to have them in print: but not everyone can say that.
Anyhow, I also have written many short stories and one novella. I loved writing them. This is because I love painting worlds with words. Using my imagination is wonderful. And I hope that, even if I were destroyed today, I'd still have the work I'd already done sitting in books.
Is writing something you enjoy doing? Even if it's just a hobby?
I've written several in the past. These days I sometimes write little rhymes to go in birthday cards or such like and sometimes for my dog's photo diaries I make little rhymes to go along with the photographs....
It's not something I do very often but I have written some. The best I wrote, I think, was at school and was really skimping on work. I found that, if I was asked to write a story, if I wrote a poem telling a story I had to write far less and the teacher was impressed so a 'win win'. Oftens I find things come easier if I have a good reason lol.

I LOVED English at school. It was my favourite subject. I loved it so much, I became a writer myself! I always got excited when being told to write a short story or read a book.
The English language is awesome and I love being fluent in English. Reading and writing is my favourite way to spend time. Plus, I have a good imagination, so am lucky in that regard. I do also feel everyone has their own favourite subject. In fact, I also love mathematics: I just cannot get bored when doing equations and sums.

I also think everyone can write poetry! It doesn't have to be perfect or professional: it can simply be written for enjoyment. This goes for other subjects: like playing the guitar or learning about geography. Even if you're bad at something, if you enjoy it, carry on! It doesn't matter what others think: if you really want, you can keep your poems and other writing simply for yourself.
Taking pride in subjects you ARE good at is also important. If you're interested in science, then go for it! There are no hard and set rules. Find your OWN passions in life. And don't let anyone stop you.
lol "NOT SPAM" got a chuckle out of me. So you know, we don't mind active members sharing their work/talents and such, so we won't consider things like that spam!
Gobbledgook sounds and looks cute. Is it suitable for children or is it still more for adults but with a child-like feel?
