I received my homeowners insurance bill yesterday. What annoys me is how much of an increase they can get away with. Mine went up almost $600. I'll be shopping around.
It seems the way that prices are increased if a company or person can get away with it.
What annoys me is when I see parents yelling at their innocent children. It is so cruel and mean: I hate it.
As a mother I can tell you sometimes firm louder tones are what it needs to disipline a wayward child. I used to warn my children once in firm tones, if they didnt behave I would count to 3 if they still hadnt stopped I took action. Once my boys were arguing in a supermarket I warned them .( If you dont stop we are leaving) ..I counted , they continued to squabble so I put the cart to one side marched both of them out of the store and we went home.
Yelling at them just for the sake of sounding off no, being loud or firm to regain control, ensure safety , or as disipline yes.
I think we all learn that we have to look after our own children as befits our skills and their long term needs, and that is not cut and dried. If it was there would only be one book on bringing up children.
There are, in fact, thousands....
Just sitting here and remembering now.... My children always knew that I was angriest when my voice was quiet, and that was coz I was talking through my teeth. It makes me smile now to think back on it. Your own kids really do have the skills to send your temper to purple levels, why they choose to do it god only knows.
As for innocent? I was bathing 3 of my 4, the oldest was 8 and she was just joining us in the bathroom to be sociable. I had one crying, and two arguing, and the noise was relentless. I told the oldest to stop humming, as it was just adding to the level, and at least I could shut that portion of the sound off. She didn't stop, so 5 minutes later she was sent to bed. As soon as the door shut, my brain said "You have just sent her to bed for humming! How could you?"
I still feel guilty over that...

I'm not a parent, so I can't disagree with you, a_muppet. From your post, you DO highlight that children can be naughty and have to be told - and respectfully shown - that their naughty behaviour won't let them win.
But - I assume if I were a parent - that I would never yell or shout at my kids. I'll tell them off and disipline them but I won't scream or take out my bad day on them.

We all start with those good intentions, but children have a knack for winding you up well past what you would take from anyone else, and sometimes that steam needs letting out. Then it is better to come out with volume, rather than violence.

Actually, reflecting on that, I never did shout at my kids. I am not someone who likes to wash dirty linen in public. I was more inclined to hiss between my teeth.
My ex was a shouter, but he didn't understand children. I used to come home and find a kid had been grounded for 6 months lol What was the point in that?

It's a man thing. My husband used to do it yelling at the kids in September he would say you're grounded until Christmas. He now does the same thing with the dogs. Instead of just saying sit stand walk.he goes onto a whole discussion with them. ' now I've told you no pulling , be a good boy or no biscuits'

Poor dog has no idea.
We reluctantly went to an aquaintance's house for a meal once. I gave the dog a biscuit out of my pocket, it was a really sweet little thing. What we used to call a heinz 57 The woman turned to the dog and started chanting "What do you say? What do you say? What do you say? What do you say? What do you say? What do you say? What do you say?"

I remember the hissing well too Depending on the age of a child they have a short timeframe so, starting with the naughty corner for a short time when they are small to missing a treat when they are older is perhaps about it. By their teens it's more negotiation as building walls and resentment does not work well.
A parent needs endless patience, in my experience.
I hate picking up my coffee cup for that last drink of lovely warm coffee to find that I already finished it.
Lately, due to cheap, off-brand Keurig pods, I've ended up with a mouthful of grounds in that last swig of coffee. We have a Keurig at work. At home, I use a regular drip brewer.

Like I did just now.
I was tired this morning and mistakenly put the teaspoon of coffee in my breakfast cereal instead of my coffee cup. Maybe I was still tired when I eat it but it didn't taste bad. I have warm milk with my cereal so the coffee dissolved anyway.

I was walking down where the grass ends in my backyard and a good sized Water Moccasin slithered by. I just stopped and let him move away.
How bad can they get?
Annie, they are not too aggressive and usually will avoid you. The issue is that they like the tall grass and weds so when you walk through those areas near the water it is best to have a stick or something so you can tap the ground in front of you so if there is one they will usually move out of the way. You get used to it.
What annoys me right now is my gardener is taking too long of a vacation, almost one month. He told us one of his friends will cut the grass when he is away. There is no one. My husband is not a happy camper.

You should try living here its called bouwvak and basically 90% of all tradesmen vanish for the summer...
Seeing movies on the TV in which the TV companies version has had major cuts. The James Bond, GoldenEye which I watched on ITV last night was badly spoiled because of missing parts, to the extent that the storyline was disjointed in places
Netflix had this random arrangement of clips from a series we are watching that played while we had the show selected; we were brushing our teeth and just left it there instead of hitting play, and it showed clips we have not seen that spoiled some deaths of people LOL what the heck!
Another one with TV companies is the way they cut off the credits to announce the next program. We often watch something on the TV and think - 'Is that so and so' or wonder about the original program date and want to check. We get really frustrated as they cut or shrink the size of the credits. It doesn't help when the playout music is something you like either and this voice comes booming over it.
