BBQ season... Obviously for my husband the smoke has immediate consequences. He will cough until he bleeds if exposed to full bbq smoke.
I know I can't expect everyone to notify us they are having a barbecue. But like today my neighbour across the street can see that both I and my neighbour have laundry on the line outside.. But she just lights up her bbq and damn everyone else. I've had to drop everything and run around like mad closing windows and grabbing the washing in before my sheets and towels stink of fire. Now on a warm sunny afternoon we are stuck inside with every door and window shut tight just so that we breathe and don't have to live with the stench on our clothes and furniture.
I believe you are not supposed to have a fire that gives off smoke before 6pm. But who is going to enforce that?

The police?
The police won't do anything: you'd just be advised to stay indoors and keep all the windows shut. It would be considered a minor crime and not worth dealing with. Unless - of course - there was an argument between the neighbours about it.

Exactly this.
We used to have young neighbours , she was ok and resonable but he was a total PITA. He would light these things called Swedish Torch basically a tree stump with a big X cut into the top that you set alight. They smoke and they stink to high heaven.
OH had a word with her and asked 'please if youre going to light one of those things will you tell us send me a text just so I can shut the windows because I have a really bad lung condition and I cant breathe if that smoke gets in the house'.. She apologised and said she would do as he asked...
Less than 24 hours later we arrived home at 3,30pm to find our house full of acrid blue smoke and him and his mates sat in the back garden with one of these stumps burning away ( on a July afternoon).. OH lost it he walked into their garden with a bucket of water and doused it. He told the neighbour light that thing again and I'll throttle you..
The neighbour called the police. And they came because they said it was a death threat..
I invited them in showed them the medication OH was on for his lungs, two tablets and three inhalers and asked who was trying to kill who here... Then I explained about the law of no fires before 6pm and told them that if they wouldnt deal with that they couldnt blame OH for stepping in..
The two of them thought about it for a second and decided to have a word with the neighbour instead...
He wouldnt speak to us after that but the fires stopped..

No, not at all. Per recommendations I am going 8:2 this weekend.
We are standing by with bated breath....
What is bated breath anyway?
Bated breath first appeared in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice in 1605. Using a shortened form of abated, which means "stopped or reduced," the phrase refers to people holding their breath in excitement or fear as they wait to see what happens next.
Rushing to get ready but then having to wait because the other person is nowhere near ready. No, I am not talking about my husband, he has a good excuse.

I've had my friend sit with me in a cafe: then she wandered off to talk to someone else. I was furious. I felt insulted and angry. Was I so boring she had to talk to someone else? Another friend would do this: except her mum won't allow her to.
It is not very nice or friendly to wander off when you're supposed to be enjoying a hot drink together.
if you're going to hold a conversation with me, then talk to me
if not, then I have plenty of things to be getting on with...
I know that it is a bit irritating but it is difficult at times. I am very slow to get to know people so often find conversation difficult and even with people I know often don't talk a lot. Saying hello is a good start but a follow up can be far more difficult and I do find that I am heavily influenced by the persons responce, verbal, body language or otherwise, to my greeting. I have improved a bit with time but there have been occasions when I have been to a function of some sort and froze, speaking to almost no-one at all for the entire event. I like to say hello to everyone who I meet on my daily walks. There are only a few though who I stop and chat with.
This new trend of people having every mobile phone call on loudspeaker in public. I mean why?! Either put the phone to your ear like we all managed the last, like , 20 years or use headphones. People don't want to hear your mundane conversations

Yes, me too. I am more of a listener than a chatter. We can't all talk, someone has to listen too.

I agree with emily91.
Short syllables and no interesting talk make me want to leave the person there as I walk away. I can't stand people who can't hold a conversation and act bored. I've much better things to spend my time on. Plus, the person must have poor social skills: more pity on them.
