Human chocolate makes dogs very sick and must NEVER be give to a dog.
and the rest:
Human food
In 2011, consumption of toxic foods was the number one cause of poisoning in dogs.[5] In 2017, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center received 199,000 poisoning cases, almost one-fifth of which were the result of ingesting human foods.[6] Knowing which foods are poisonous to dogs will protect your dog and keep them healthy. Every pet owner wants to share a "treat" with their dog, however, dogs can not break down many of the substances that humans can, thus the "treat" for the human could become detrimental to the dog.
Carob is sometimes used as a chocolate substitute and is not toxic to dogs.
Chocolate Chocolate is dangerous for dogs because they are unable to break down theobromine nor caffeine contained in the chocolate. Darker chocolate and baking chocolate contain a higher amount of theobromine, thus they are more dangerous than milk chocolate or white chocolate. Smaller doses may cause vomiting or diarrhea, but larger doses begin to affect the heart and brain. At higher doses the dog may essentially suffer a heart attack.[7] Note that some dog treats that claim they include chocolate use carob which looks like chocolate.
Grapes/raisins/currants
These include any fruit of the Vitis species. The substance within these fruits that causes toxicity to dogs is not clear. There are two theories: mycotoxin or salicylate naturally found in grapes, which decreases blood flow to the kidneys. There is also no dose information to show how much is too much. This varies and one dog may tolerate grapes/raisins more than another. The safest amount is NONE, as it eliminates the possibility and is safest for the pet.[8]
Macadamia nuts
Macadamia nuts have been included in the top foods to not give dogs. Like grapes or raisins it has not been clearly identified what is in the nut that causes negative reactions in dogs. Very small amounts of the nut can cause adverse reactions – "as little as 1/10th of an ounce per roughly 2 pounds of body weight."[9] Macadamia nuts are singled out as having higher toxicity. Other nuts in general, are high in fat and can cause a dog to become ill.[10] Dogs do not metabolize substances as humans can so keep pets safe by not taking the risk of feeding them any type of nut.
Xylitol
The FDA has issued alerts to notify the public that xylitol, a sugar substitute, is harmful to dogs. It is used in sugar free foods including gum and candy, and oral hygiene products. Some peanut butter will also contain xylitol. Xylitol can cause liver failure in dogs, as well as hypoglycemia due to the fact that it stimulates rapid insulin production in the canine pancreas.[11] Some possible signs to watch for are loss of coordination, vomiting, or seizures.[12] Xylitol is not always clearly labeled on sugar free foods. Ingredient listings should indicate if xylitol is in the product. Food labels with the listing for "sugar alcohol" may contain xylitol. [13] Other names for xylitol include birch sugar, E967, Meso-Xylitol, Xilitol, Xylit, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5-Pentol, and Sucre de Bouleau. [14]
Members of the Onion family can be dangerous to dogs.
Fruit pits and seeds
Apples are safe for dogs, but apple seeds are not. Apple seeds, persimmon, peach, and plum pits, as well as other fruit seeds or pits have "cyanogenic glycosides". For example, if an apple seed skin is broken as a dog is eating an apple, then cyanide could be released. Apple seeds should be removed before a dog is given the apple to eat.[15]
Onions and garlic
The Alliaceae family, of the Allium genus, or the onion family, includes onion, garlic, shallots, scallions, chives, and leeks.[16] These contain thiosulphate which can cause red blood cell damage and anemia. Thiosulphate poisoning from onions can cause orange to dark red-tinged urine, vomiting, and diarrhea.[17]
Many human foods may cause irritation to dogs or more serious problems when ingested in large amounts.
Medication
Over the counter medication
Human vitamin supplements can damage the digestive tract lining, especially those containing iron, and can lead to kidney and liver damage.[15]
Ibuprofen and acetaminophen
(commonly known as Moutrin or Advil and Tylenol) will cause liver damage in dogs.
Prescription
Human antidepressant drugs like Celexa can cause neurological problems in dogs.
ADHD medications contain stimulants, such as methylphenidate, that if ingested even in small amounts can be life-threatening to dogs. Examples are Concerta, Vyvanse, Adderall, and Dexadrine.[18]
This sense of entitlement that everyone seems to have now days.
This morning was such an example. We went to the woods and to get to the car park there is a narrow lane with a very soft earth edge that has warnings all down the lane not to drive on it...At the end of the lane the road narrows to a gate with enough space for one car to pass through...
As we got near the gate a walker was in front of us and so we had to slow down for him to go through the gate or run him over. At that moment a jogger came round the corner and jogged head on towards us ( by this time we are stationary waiting for the walker) then as she drew level with the car she threw her hands up and screamed something along the lines of ..."oh I suppose I will just have to bloody move over then it that it'? Before I could tell her to 'go forth and multiply' Murphy who was in the back with his window down, offered her the best view of his teeth at which point she squealed and legged it.
The point is where did she expect us to go? The lane isnt wide, we were on our side of the road, (as much as one can be) we were waiting for the walker to leave the gate area and we cant pull onto the side because the car would sink...Stupid bint put a nasty end on an otherwise lovely walk.

I was going to say, "oh yeh joggers!" But also sports cyclists. If they are running, or cycling, to keep fit, they have to be number 1 when inter reacting with the rest of us.
This includes, running across the road in front of traffic of course, and weaving their bikes between cars. Nutters. How fit will they be when they get flattened? Cars weigh over a ton, and cant stop as quickly as people, or cyclists.
What makes it particularly bad, is that almost certainly these people are also car drivers!

Oh the lycra lunatic brigade... They killed a dog near here by cycling over the footpath in an off lead area and they didnt stop. No lights, no bell, no sense, no manners ....
It's interesting how little things seem to change someone. Lycra clad joggers are mostly fairly friendly but put lycra on a cyclist and they turn into demons who ignore everyone except their own kind. I did a quick search on "The psychology of the lycra clad cyclist" but only found general stuff. It's not my field but I got to thinking that there may be a nice PhD in the making for someone with interest in psychology or similar.

I think Disney hit the nail on the head with this 1950s cartoon about how people's attitudes change once they get behind the wheel of the car. I think the same is applicable today with the cyclists.

I have seen it before but it was good to watch it again. Thanks for that Cassie. It fits well.
As we arrived home with the dogs this morning a middle aged woman got into her car started the engine and as she attempted to move out of the parking bay she picked up her phone and started a call..
OH tooted the horn and I got out of our car..
She looked up from her call, car half out into the road trying to see who had tooted... ( we were in our driveway) when she saw us she opened her door and looked out as if to look for damage to her car I held my hand to my face in the 'phone ' sign.. and yelled 'put the damn phone down'
She tutted and gave me a 'dont moan 'look before slamming the door and driving off still on the phone.
This is an old neighbourhood with narrow streets there are two lower schools and two upper schools nearby so at that time there are loads of children heading to school... Still...we dont want to interupt her call now do we?
The law becoming more severe has not cut down the number of people I see using their phones in the car.
I don't think it will. There are those who automatically use their phone without thinking, wherever they are and there are those who are at work and respond instantly to calls. That doesn't account for everyone but is probably a good proportion. I have even been a passenger in a car in which the driver used his phone totally hands free but was still obviously looking like an accident waiting to happen.
With the current state of technology the only safe answer is a total ban and incapacitation of phones in a car but that won't happen.
I've even seen a guy texting whilst on a motorbike !!!!!
That's unbelievable. And utterly wrong.
As for using phones in the car: that is completely wrong, too. It IS against the law. And there WILL be consequences. i.e: being charged with dangerous driving, if caught.
It is beyond annoying: it is dangerous and puts everyone on the road in danger.

Apparently, phycologists have stated that it doesn't matter if you are holding the phone or hands free. The risk element is exactly the same.

I was struck speechless one day when, walking up Lincoln High Street in the pedestrianised shopping stretch I was amazed to see a physically disabled women coming in the opposite direction driving her powered wheelchair at high speed (two to three times walking pace) down the crowded street using her mobile phone with one hand while she steered using the other. In my opinion she was going far too fast for the crowded street anyway. A powered wheelchair is a lethal weapon with it's heavy frame/batteries/motors apart from the weight of the occupant. Have you ever looked at the footplates on wheelchairs and considered how easy they would break a leg on impact. I do wonder though what actual law was being broken?
Can having a conversation with the driver of the car affect road safety?
I would say a definite yes if the conversation gets deep enough to take over the driver's thought process. Take a big argument or, in the most likely case, a little experienced teenager being more interested in what is being discussed socially than keeping concentration on driving.

Absolutely.
Years ago I was following a volvo estate car being driven very errartically along the high street.. At a bus stop the car swerved to pull in and I saw two young children in the back who had evidently been up to no good because mum, who was driving turned and leaned over the chair to give them a smack and a telling off.
The distraction had really affected her driving badly.
Grrr dangerous driving , yesterday there were two cars who raced through the red light as we (who had a green light ) pulled out... Thank goodness we saw them.
Today we had to stop for the bridge , the guy next to us was on the phone and continued as we pulled away, we tooted and I made the phone sign to him ,, He waved and put it down.. Great. This bridge is a bad one, it creates a hill there two lanes straight on one left turn lane to MacD... Easy, but people take off once the bridge opens only to head down the hill to find the traffic lights are red and they have to slam on the brakes so its one where you allow a little room, today is wet and there are lots of motorbikes around making it even more dangerous . So Mr phone guy is on our right when he suddenly he decides I want to be in the left lane and cuts in front of us.. then just before the lights it seems he fancies a burger and tries to get into the left turn lane only they are waiting because the turn light is red so they are queued up (straight on has green)
Now he is stuck and we have to hit the brakes, and all the traffic coming over the bridge sees a green light and goes for it ...only we are stuck there waiting for mr phone guy and are very lucky not to get rear-ended.. Sometimes and then some more....
BBQ season... Obviously for my husband the smoke has immediate consequences. He will cough until he bleeds if exposed to full bbq smoke.
I know I can't expect everyone to notify us they are having a barbecue. But like today my neighbour across the street can see that both I and my neighbour have laundry on the line outside.. But she just lights up her bbq and damn everyone else. I've had to drop everything and run around like mad closing windows and grabbing the washing in before my sheets and towels stink of fire. Now on a warm sunny afternoon we are stuck inside with every door and window shut tight just so that we breathe and don't have to live with the stench on our clothes and furniture.

That's the worst... I hate going outside for an evening walk, and someone in the neighborhood completely smoked us out.. we will stink of it within minutes.
